A decade of DKD

Designer Kitchen Direct recently celebrated their ten-year anniversary, a milestone they’re really proud of. In that time the business has grown from a small team to nearly 100 people, with three showrooms across the UK, as well as developing their own kitchen workshop which allows them to manufacture British-made kitchens inhouse.

ith his band Reverend and the Makers, Jon McClure has played all over the world, from small, intimate venues to huge festivals and supported some of the biggest names in music. But now he’s facing his toughest gig yet.

In a headline-grabbing press conference that gained national attention, it was announced that Jon will be the new football club in the world.

But before you think that this is maybe his ego running away with him, we can categorically say that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

“You don’t expect to be in a band when you’re 40-odd years old or the chairman of the world’s oldest football club, managing a viral sensation as my brother is these days but long may it continue,” laughed Jon.

He’s certainly got plenty to keep himself busy.

hen it opened in 2014, Brocco restaurants in the city to introduce the ‘small plates’ dining concept. There was nothing too revolutionary about this – the idea was to pick several dishes between diners and share – but it proved to be a big hit and became the hallmark of the restaurant.

This June marks 30 years since Nonnas quickly establishing itself as one of independent businesses.

The longer days and the wzarmer weather create the perfect excuse to take your workouts outdoors. Try to get outside when the light is brightest, between 8am-10am and consider swapping your indoor gym session for outdoor alternatives.

Wild swimming is an excellent exercise that offers a full-body workout and allows you to soak up some vitamin D too. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in calcium absorption, immune system support, mood regulation, and muscular function, making it essential to make the most of the sun whilst we have it.

Most people would shudder at the thought of exposing themselves to cold

water voluntarily, yet wild swimming is becoming increasingly popular with many thoroughly enjoying the experience. The

body has to work twice as hard to stay warm in the cold water. One of the biggest reasons most people get hooked is not

swimming but for the buzz and feeling you get whilst doing it, as well as the way you feel for the rest of the day. The shock to the system of swimming in cold water releases endorphins (the happy hormone), but also gets you out of the house and away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Wild swimming is an incredibly accessible sport and one that is hugely

individual and personal. It is time for yourself, time to challenge yourself and time in nature. When you are plunged into cold water, you cannot think about work or your worries, as your brain immediately focuses on your breathing and your body. It becomes a form of natural meditation which demands presence. There is no room for overthinking or drifting thoughts when in freezing waters.

However, there are a few safety tips you need to think about of when wild swimming in open waters.

• Wear the correct clothes. You should wear something bright and visible in the water, and wearing swim shoes will help protect your feet and keep you from sliding. If the

water is very cold, a wetsuit could also be a good idea.

• If you are swimming in the sea, have a look at the tides, currents and weather conditions before you go.

• Check the water temperature before you dive in and submerge yourself gradually, allowing your body to get used to the temperature.

• Avoid swimming alone and let someone know where you are in case of an emergency.

This secluded swimming spot is for those who would like a long walk before having a swim. Slippery Stones is accessible via a 5-6-mile walk from the Fairholmes car park, making it a perfect location for a day out in the countryside for those who fancy the hike. The journey there may be a bit of a trek, but the tranquil waters and peaceful atmosphere make it well worth the effort.

This is the perfect area for kids to go wild swimming as there’s a designated section of the water that has been carved out for swimming, with fresh water running through. There are even large stone slabs that act as levels for very small children.
