Melanie C’s latest album, Sweat, is a celebration of joy, movement and community.

efore she became Mel C of the Spice Girls, Melanie Chisholm was discovering rave culture in the early nineties, an experience that still fuels her today. Those nights of breakbeats, sweat and freedom would shape her forever.
Decades later, Melanie C channels that same raw energy into Sweat - her ninth studio album and most euphoric record to date, which was released on 1 May via Virgin Music Group.
Recorded between London, Stockholm and LA, Sweat is a celebration of joy, movement and community - a fusion of Melanie C’s pop legacy and her more recent evolution as a DJ.
The record unites every part of her story: the athlete, the pop icon, the underground DJ, and the teenager who fell in love with rave culture. It’s a record about resilience and joy in dark times.
Let’s talk about Sweat, your forthcoming album. It feels like your most liberated record. What changed for you creatively this time around making this record?
So many things have changed. Every album I’ve ever made, it’s really been a
over the last eight years I’ve been DJing. I’ve been lucky enough to play in so many great festivals all over the world, as well as playing in Ibiza. For the last

And it’s funny because I discovered raving when I was about 17 and I was going out—I was in Spain with a group of friends on holiday and we were like, what is this music? Everybody’s so free when they’re dancing and we were just completely hooked from the get-go. So when we got back to London we were are happening.
And I really got into that scene. It was such an incredible time. I grew up through the 80s where, you know, nightclubs in the UK were, you know, a bit cheesy discos, and it was all a little bit step touch, step touch when you were of movement that was happening with this, you know, music that was just so euphoric at times, and you know, for people to be dancing all night long, and so many different social backgrounds
and communities coming together and
probably in history. So this kind of felt like our movement you know as a young person, it was like my parents grew up through the 60s, of course they had the Summer of Love, and this was almost like our version of that.
So that was all happening, and then when I turned 20 I auditioned for the band that became the Spice Girls and that of course took over my life. All of my priorities changed. We were so focused, so determined to succeed. And then of course once music was released, our schedule was crazy, so there wasn’t much time for going out, socialising and I’d almost left that part of me behind.
I’d always loved dance music. Of course it’s come into the mainstream, it’s
you know by electronic sounds. So I’ve always listened to you know lots of different genres of dance and house, but I’ve never really done that much as a solo artist.
I of course did the Hex Hector remix was a big, big dance hit all over the world. So I’ve kind of toyed in that area, but for this album I just revisited those really early days.
And also I’ve just been able to kind of reclaim who I was before I was a through my life, I’ve been so lucky, worked with so many amazing people, and this felt like the time to really put all of those pieces together.
And I really wanted to bring my work as a solo artist closer to what I play as a DJ. I play multi-genre house when I’m out. So it was just nice to play with all own voice within that.

What was the one SWEAT track that surprised you the most?
Ooh, I loved to have light and shade on the album, and although I wanted it to be really uplifting and motivating and I also like darkness. I always feel like you have to have the moment of real depth on the record. And one of my favourite time in a room that was completely female producing and Flick of the Wrist—a darker track from an all-female session.
What keeps you creatively hungry after all these years?
I just love what I do. I love performing, I love that feeling of being on stage, releasing music, and having that connection with people.
I just have learned so much over the years about, as different as we all are, we share so much, we have so much in common. And, it’s really beautiful to be able to express yourself and to connect with other people. And that really truly is what keeps me going. And, other people’s music, you know to hear other artists and bands and how music changes and evolves, so yeah I can’t imagine ever not being inspired to carry on and making new music.

f you’ve been wondering where I’ve been lately, the answer is simple –everywhere! The past few weeks
tables, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Festival season kicked off in style with Mint Festival and, as someone who’s been there since the early days, there’s something really special about watching it grow into the giant it’s become. The crowds were amazing, the lineup delivered and the atmosphere was unreal. If you missed it this year, make sure you don’t next time around.
Goodlife Festival was another standout moment bringing a full day of disco and house music to the spectacular grounds of Harewood House. Few festival experiences compare to dancing beneath the Yorkshire sunshine with that incredible backdrop. This one is going to be a standout event for many summers to come.
On the live music front, I made it to the Neyo and Akon show at First Direct Arena, and I am not ashamed to tell you I sang every single word. The arena continues to pull in huge names, with artists like Pussy Cat Dolls, Jungle and Kings of Leon all heading to Leeds this year plus the amazing Lily Allen, who I’m really excited to see.
After a nail-biting season at times, Leeds are staying in the Premier League. It’s massive for the city and is about more than just football. The buzz, the atmosphere and the pride people feel in Leeds all lifts when the club’s

Ivy Asia continues to be my go-to for pretty much any occasion. The new Dragon Lunch Menu is incredible value for money with dishes like prawn tempura, seared beef tataki and wokfried char siu pork belly all for £21.95.
And the news that has had the city buzzing for months – drum roll please, Dishoom is coming to Leeds this summer! I’ve made pilgrimages to their other sites for years, the breakfast naan alone is worth the trip, and so the countdown is well and truly on.
May also brought something really special for the city in the shape of UKREiiF, the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum, which took over Leeds and brought an incredible buzz with it. We were proud to host AireFest at Calls Wharf as part of the fringe social calendar and it was genuinely one of the highlights of the whole week, we’re already planning next year’s event to be even bigger and better!

Largest-ever Urban Soul Orchestra to perform Classic Ibiza at Chatsworth.
s Classic Ibiza’s return to the grounds of Chatsworth House on Saturday 11 July draws closer, the concert’s organisers have announced further plans in what they are promising will be their biggest-ever celebration of Balearic-infused house music.
Creating a symphonic wall-of-sound, half-hour show will feature a total of 45 Urban Soul Orchestra (USO) musicians and vocalists – the largest-ever number to grace the stage at Classic Ibiza, up from 32 in previous years.
USO’s Stephen Hussey, conductor, arranger and musical producer for Classic Ibiza, says: “I’ve got to admit that I feel a bit like a kid in a toy shop, thinking about the exciting possibilities to have musical fun with all the new instruments I’ve now
“By adding more strings, brass, woodwind and percussion to the show, we’ll create such an awe-inspiring wallof-sound, which is literally going to blow our Chatsworth audience away!”
In addition to everyone’s favourite dance anthems, performed by Urban
Soul Orchestra and DJ Goldierocks, this summer’s extended Classic Ibiza features a new live chill-out set, fresh performances by show debutant DJ Meera, and even more guest vocals from London Community Gospel Choir.
Lisa Ward, promoter and owner of Classic Ibiza, adds: “Every year we set ourselves the challenge of building on the success of our previous tour. That was pretty daunting this year considering how incredible our 10th anniversary celebrations were, but we’ve only gone and done it!
“Whether you’ve been before or are new to Classic Ibiza, you’re going to want to witness what we’ve got in store at Chatsworth this summer. We’ve upped the ante yet again and can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”
In a further update, Classic Ibiza has announced the results of its annual track poll. The three most popular chill-out tracks, voted for by the show’s 62,000 social media followers, are: Belfast (Orbital), Les Nuits (Nightmares On Wax) and Little Fluffy Clouds (The Orb). They’ll be joining the new 45-minute
Chill-Out Set, performed by members of Urban Soul Orchestra and DJ Meera.
Lisa Ward says: “Last summer’s 10th anniversary tour was our most successful ever in terms of audience numbers and the plaudits we received. People particularly loved the euphoric wall-ofsound created by Stephen Hussey’s Urban Soul Orchestra and London Community Gospel Choir. The concert was so good that they wanted it to last longer, so that’s exactly what we’re giving them.
“This summer’s extended programme, featuring new DJ sets and even more LCGC guest vocals, is going to take the show to new heights. Do I have hip ARTHRITIS?
Understanding

very year, more than 100,000 patients undergo hip replacement surgery in the UK. The most common reason for this life-changing procedure is hip arthritis. Around one in ten symptoms from hip arthritis during their lifetime.
As an orthopaedic surgeon practicing locally, I regularly see patients who have suffered with hip discomfort for months, or even years, without realising arthritis is the cause. The aim of this article is to help you recognise the common symptoms of hip arthritis and understand when it may be time to seek medical advice.
What exactly is hip arthritis?
In a healthy hip, the joint surfaces are covered by smooth white cartilage that allows the ball-and-socket joint to move freely without friction. When arthritis develops, this cartilage gradually becomes thinner and rougher. Eventually, the underlying bone becomes exposed and the joint no longer moves smoothly.
This leads to pain, stiffness, and loss of movement within the hip.
Groin pain – the most common symptom
The most common symptom of hip arthritis is pain felt in the groin. The pain is often described as a dull ache, although it can occasionally feel sharp during certain movements.
Many people initially mistake the discomfort for a pulled muscle or groin strain, especially if symptoms begin after exercise or increased activity. However, unlike a simple strain, arthritis pain usually persists and gradually worsens over time.
You may notice the pain becomes worse when walking longer distances, climbing stairs, standing for prolonged periods, or getting in and out of a car. Many people steps after sitting down.
Pain in the thigh, buttock, or knee
Although groin pain is the classic symptom,
hip arthritis does not always present in the same way. Pain can also be felt in the buttock, thigh, or knee. This is known as referred pain, where pain from the hip is felt elsewhere in the leg.
In some people, knee pain may be the only symptom. This can sometimes delay diagnosis because attention is focused on the knee rather than the hip joint itself.

Many people also develop pain at night and struggle to get comfortable in bed. Sleep disturbance is often one of the main reasons patients eventually seek medical advice.
When should you seek advice?
Not everyone with hip arthritis requires surgery. Many people manage symptoms successfully with exercise, physiotherapy, weight management, and pain relief medication.
However, it is sensible to seek medical advice if your pain persists, your mobility is worsening, or everyday activities are
