PETER CULLEN Legendary Voice Of ‘Optimus Prime’ died at age 85

T

here are many iconic and legendary voices throughout the history of animation, however, some stand out, far and above the rest. Optimus Prime was one such voice. There is probably no other voice more iconic or recognizable around the world. The unique deep voice of Optimus has remained steady since the animated show debuted in 1984 and is uniform across all iterations, including live action films, series remakes, video games and even the Transformers ride at Universal Studios. That legendary voice will never be heard again. Peter Claver Cullen was born on July 28th, 1941 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His legendary role as Optimus Prime, inspired and 4

nurtured the imagination of children and adults since 1984. However, even though Optimus Prime is the most impressive voice, it is not the only char acter portrayed by this vocal genius, not even inside the Transformers franchise. Cullen also voiced Ironhide and Streetwise of the autobots and also Wingspan, Slugslinger and Nightstick of the Decepticons. Peter also voiced one of Disney’s most beloved albeit perpetually sad characters, Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. He is also the voice of Thaedus in Invincible. All in all Cullen has 217 credits on IMDB. His voice was honed early in life working for local radio stations and announcing for sketch comedy variety shows in Canada and the United States early in his career.

RED INK MAGAZINE

He announced for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, and The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show. But there is no doubt that his real life hero take on Optimus Prime was his big break into Hollywood. He based the voice on his own brother who returned home from Vietnam as a quiet and humble real life war hero. Peter Cullen died Cardiac Arrest stemming

from battle with Lung Cancer on August 26th, 2026. Peter Cullen you voiced a legendary character, and in doing so you were a real life hero yourself for inspiring the imaginations of countless children around the world over the last four decades. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Rest in Peace, “Autobots, Roll Out!” By Michael Devine u 5

DOLLY PARTON Legendary Country Music Star, died at 80

D

olly Parton was known as much for her iconic curves and campy aesthetic that captured the public’s attention as she was for her legendary voice, profound songwriting and talented acting. She was truly a gem to behold and the world is dimmer without her glow. Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee. She was a natural-born talent when it came to singing and songwriting, beginning at just six years old when she learned to play a homemade guitar at her grandfather’s Pentecostal church. Growing up in deep poverty gave her a great appreciation for everything she earned later in life. She sang and wrote music all through her childhood, performing at church and on the local radio station. At age 13—after recording her first self-written song, “Puppy Love,” with Goldband Records which she had written at age 11—she appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, where she met Johnny Cash. Right after graduating high school, she moved to Nashville to pursue her lyrical dreams in the heart of country music. Her truest talent was actually songwriting and within weeks of arriving in Nashville, she was hired by Combine Publishing and began writing songs for many great artists, including, Skeeter Davis, Kitty Wells, and Hank Williams Jr. A year later she signed with Monument Records but they felt her voice was too soprano for country and had her sing bubblegum pop style music. She had a few good singles but “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby” was the only one to make the charts. Her first country single was “Dumb Blonde” and her second was “Something Fishy” and both reached top 25 on the charts, proving her talent and securing her position that would lead her to become the true Queen of Country Music over the next few decades. Country was truly the lane she was born to drive in. She would soon join the syndicated show, The Porter Wagoner Show, replacing Norma Jean and from there the rest was history. Dolly Parton was an incredible country singer but she was profoundly good at harmonizing and throughout much of her career she had great success singing duo with some of music’s biggest names, including Porter Wagoner, Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Miley Cyrus, Sting, Julio Iglesias, and Elton John to name a few. Her solo career, however, birthed some of the most legendary songs known worldwide: “Jolene,” “Heartbreaker,” “Love is

8

Like a Butterfly,” “Please Don’t Stop Loving Me,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Here You Come Again,” and “You’re the Only One,” to name just a few of her dozens of chart-toppers. To put it into perspective, Dolly sold over 100 million records and earned 52 certified Gold, Platinum, and MultiPlatinum awards. Of her exact era, only Barbra Streisand achieved more individual RIAA titles. While modern artists don’t have to sell complete LPs to reach high certification counts due to streaming metrics, Dolly Parton was truly a pioneering elite female artist of the physical era

Continued from page 9 Miss Parton was also talented in the field of acting; in almost every movie she appeared in she was either the lead star or co-star. She starred in 9 to 5, The best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, Straight Talk and Joyful Noise. Including music videos, she has over 157 IMDB film credits, and has recorded more than 957 unique songs and has written over 3,000 published songs, and another few thousand more remaining unpublished in her private vault. Additionally, Parton won dozens of awards over the seven decades of performing including: an Emmy, 11 Grammy awards, 10 Country Music Association awards, 7 Academy of Country Music awards, 3 American Music awards and earned 2 Academy Award nominations, as well as an honorary Oscar—the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2025—for her extraordinary global philanthropic efforts. She was one of only seven female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award. She even created Dollywood, one of the world’s highest-rated theme parks. It has been named the #1 Theme Park in the United States multiple times, winning numerous Golden Ticket Awards and beating out giants like Disney and Universal Studios. To say Dolly Parton had a prolific and successful career would be a gross understatement. Growing up poor and with a hardworking, successful but

illiterate father gave Dolly an amazing “real” view of the world. She devoted a significant portion of her lifetime wealth to philanthropic endeavors. Over her lifetime she donated and spent more than $550 million on philanthropic efforts which was more than 55% of her overall wealth. She created the Dolly Parton Foundation that began as a local foundation to motivate local high school students to graduate by promising them each $500 dollars if they did; this was incredibly successful lowering the dropout rate from 35% down to 6%. But that was just the tip of the spear. The Foundation went on to sponsor millions in scholarships, and tens of millions into medical research and hospitals, including the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital which was completely overhauled with her generosity and renamed the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital.

10

RED INK MAGAZINE

She also created the Dolly Parton Imagination Library that grew into the world’s largest literacy program for early age children, providing more than 330 million free books to children from birth to age 5. As well, she recently donated her 100 millionth book to the Library of Congress. She truly wanted to give people the chance to have education and literacy in their life regardless of their financial means. Parton also stepped up to shield her community after the 2016 Tennessee wildfires, raising and donating almost $10 million to support and assist affected families. An avid animal lover, she helped preserve a living symbol of America, the Bald Eagle, through the American Eagle Foundation’s sanctuary hosted right inside Dollywood. Furthermore, she personally covered 100% of tuition, fees, board and books for any Dollywood employee who wished to further their education in college. She was truly a class act. Dolly Parton passed away after a short battle with cancer at the age of 80 on August 25, 2026. The world has grown noticeably dimmer since her passing. She stands as an eternal inspiration to women, girls, and anyone dreaming of building a successful life while lifting up their community. She stood by her ideals and never placed wealth before people. Her music is legendary, her acting unforgettable, and her figure, stature and presence was stunning. She may be gone, but through her music, films, and philanthropy, she has touched countless lives across the globe and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Dolly, and know that you truly made the world a better place. By Michael Devine u

HAYDEN PANETTIERE Heroes and Nashville Star, died at 36

H

ayden Leslie Panettiere, was born August 21st, 1989 in Palisades, NY. She was an amazing young actress who was acting since she was 11 months old. Best known for her starring roles in the hit primetime TV series Heroes and Nashville, she also starred in several movies, and voiced several lead characters in Disney and Pixar animated films. She was born to be starlet and grew into an amazing actress. Her very early start in to acting came at 11 months old where she appeared in a Playskool toy train commercial. By the age of 5 she had been in over 50 commercials and by the age of 11 she had finished two multiyear roles in the Soap Operas One Life to Live and Guiding Light. Soap Operas were in her blood as her mother Lesley Vogel was a Soap actress in Loving and All My Children. Her first bit part in a major motion picture was in The Object of My Affection at the age of 8. But her career exploded from here. Just two years later, she became an award winning actress after her role in Remember the Titans, winning the Young Artist

12

Award for Best Supporting Young Actress. From here she went on to play famous daughters of the starring characters in Ally McBeal, Normal, and Tiger Cruise. As she got a little older, she starred in her most well-known roles as the cheerleader, Claire Bennet, in Heroes and as the co-starring character, Juliette Barnes in Nashville. All in all, she had over 70 credits on IMDB. Not just a talented actress, Hayden was also known for her amazing voice. She voiced several leading characters in Disney and Pixar animated films including, Suri, in Disney’s Dinosaur, Red in Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, Princess Dot in A Bug’s Life and Kate in Alpha and Omega. She also voiced several video game characters including Kairi and Xion in the Kingdom Hearts series and had a character modelled after her in Until Dawn, Samantha "Sam" Giddings. Panettiere was also an amazing singer and vocalist and performed on many of the soundtracks of the films and television series she acted in. She was even nominated for a Grammy, as a child for her reading of A Bug’s Life children’s book.

RED INK MAGAZINE

Hayden Panetierre was also a entrepreneur who had launched her own brand of calfskin handbags, in 2008 called Doonie and Bourke. Additionally, she was as beautiful as her voice was sweet, and in 2006 she was the cover girl for Neutrogena’s worldwide campaign and the face of Kohl’s clothing brand Candies in 2008. Unfortunately, as is often the case with young actors and actresses, bad influences, stress and bad management can lead to substance abuse issues. This was the case for Hayden, she was introduced to “happy pills,” at age 16 by a producer’s assistant and from there developed a severe alcohol and drug abuse problem that plagued her until it caused her death, when fentanyl laced drugs ended her life on August 16th, 2026, just days before her 37th birthday. She knew she had a problem and did seek help for mental illness and addiction several times throughout her life. The situation cost her the custody of her daughter and caused much distress in her relationships over the years; add in an abusive relationship with one of her boyfriends and that was the recipe for disaster that ultimately pushed her over the edge. She had recently gotten out of rehab just weeks before her death. Continues on page 14

13

RED INK MAGAZINE

Continued from page 13 Despite her demons, everyone who knew Hayden considered her an amazing and good person. She was a charitable and philanthropic person at heart and supported many great causes. She was a very vocal supporter of Green Peace and often donated her time and assets to the Save the Whales movement, she supported PETA and promoted the freedom of sea life placed on display at theme parks, and she supported domestic abuse victims and promoted the idea of speaking out and getting the help and protections that are needed in those circumstances. She was also a heavy donor and supporter of Ronald Macdonald House Charities that support families of children that are hospitalized for serious and terminal conditions. She also supported the Candle’s Foundation to help prevent teen pregnancy. She was also a big vocal advocate for the proper statehood movement in Washington D.C. often promoting the political ideal that has been fought for since the Boston Tea Party, “No taxation without representation.” Hayden Panetierre was always there to support those in need, personally and financially, whether they be human or animal. Hayden Panetierre truly died too young. She was barely in the middle of an amazing career and life of substance and charity. She was an amazing actress, singer and philanthropist. To say Hayden will be missed is an understatement. However, she will never be forgotten, because she leaves behind an amazing legacy on screen and tape and has personally touched so many lives. Hayde Lesley Panetierre, you will be dearly missed but never forgotten, please rest in peace knowing that you will be remembered fondly, by family, friends, fans and those you have helped over the years.
