‘It Takes Two’ Hip-Hop Sensation, Died at 59
ob Base was born Robert Ginyard on May 18th, 1967 in Bronx, NY. At an early age he showed an affinity for performing often taking part in school talent shows. In the fourth grade he met his best friend and future musical partner Rodney “Skip” Bryce, aka DJ E-Z Rock. They were the legendary duo that created the multi-platinum and chart topping hit It Takes Two. Other hits by the duo included Joy and Pain and Get on the Dance Floor. However none would reach the acclaim of It Takes Two. That song was a hit and an inspiration to the industry that helped make Hip-Hop mainstream, because the soft tempos and catchy chorus made it a universal hit in every club scene and one of the most popular songs on the radio in the 1980’s and 90’s.
Sadly, with the death of Rob Base on May 22nd, 2026, it is truly the end of an Era and the true end of the legendary duo that has gotten people moving on the dance floor from 1988 until today.
DJ E-Z Rock died from complications due to Diabetes back in 2014 at the young age of 46 and now with Rob Base losing his battle with Cancer at the age of 59, it is truly the end of an era. Rob Base may you reunite with your friend in the hereafter and continue to entertain forever. You will never be forgotten because your legacy remains a club staple today and people will be dancing to the beats you created forevermore. Rest in peace. By Michael Devine u

Robert Edward Turner was born on November 19th, 1938 in Cincinnati, OH. Ted as he was called by his family to distinguish himself from his father who shared the same name and went by Ed, became the GM of his father’s business in Macon, GA when he was 21. At 24, he became the president of the company after his father committed suicide and went on to make Turner Advertising Company into a global company. In his early 20s he had originally followed in his father’s political footsteps and joined the Young Republicans Society, which in retrospect is quite ironic considering how later in life his News agency is widely considered the most Liberal slanted media network in existence and most of his elder years focused on promoting liberal agendas. Ted Turner is widely considered to be the most influential media mogul in history. He created the first “Superstation” TBS which was the first national television station that aired movies, televisions shows and cartoons all on the same syndicated network and was actually called “TBS the Superstation. “ TBS was the ultimate creation that was born out Ted’s enormous wealth of knowledge in advertising and his innovative views on business and also his love of Georgia based sports teams. Turner began his broadcasting career with the acquisition of two minor and failing UHF televisions stations, one he grew into the empire which was TBS and one he sold for $20 million which was the most ever paid for a UHF station. TBS was the premiere network in the country for many years with its diverse offerings and its monopoly on Atlanta sports teams. All games of the Atlanta
Braves and Atlanta Hawks were exclusive to the network and ultimately they were later those teams were acquired and owned by Ted Turner. He even later owned the Atlanta Thrashers (Atlanta’s short lived hockey team.) After TBS, the media empire expanded exponentially with TNT, Cartoon Network, and TCM. The latter was Turner Classic Movies, which was born from Turner’s love of classic cinema and acquisition of the entire MGM media library prior to 1986.
Aside from entertainment, Ted Turner and a partner also founded the world’s first 24 hour news cycle television channel, CNN. CNN at one time was the primary source in the United States for non-local world news and became notorious for its’ liberal political slant. So much so, that the creation of Fox News Network by Rupert Murdoch was specifically made to combat the liberal agenda and show the conservative side of things equally. Ted Turner also created WCW, World Championship Wrestling which was the direct competitor of WWF/WWE, Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation. Eventually WWF acquired WCW and became the juggernaut in the world of wrestling.
Aside from revolutionizing modern television broadcasting and news-casting, Ted Turner was also known for his incredible efforts at conservation and trying to “Save the World” that he felt was slipping away from humanity. Ted was a staunch believer in the crisis of overpopulation and global warming. He did everything he could both personally and through his philanthropic organizations to try and combat this. One of the first things he did was use his massive media empire to spread the word through the creation of Captain Planet and The Planeteers. Captain planet became a global sensation with his super powers being the only super powers that were truly focused on saving the world and not just saving individual people. He was one of the most recognizable non Marvel or DC, original super heroes of the 1990s and 2000s. One of Turners primary organizations is called the Captain Planet Foundation which works closely with schools around the world to help teach children about the need to protect our planet and keep it clean. Another way Ted fought to promote conservation was with his personal wealth. He was, for many years, the largest individual land owner in the world owning more than 2 million acres of property that he tried to keep in its original
undeveloped state and tried to keep the native species thriving. On his properties he raised and protected more than 50,000 American Bison, single handedly saving the animal from imminent extinction. When he started his efforts there were fewer than 1,000 left in the U.S. and on his property alone there are now more than 50,000. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. I wish more Billionaires would put their real money to work instead of just talking about what needs to be done. At his death Ted Turner was still the third largest land owner and had a fortune of over $3 billion.

Ted Turner drifted far from his Republican roots and became obsessed with Universal Healthcare, Welfare and other extreme Socialist beliefs like direct population control through limiting child birth numbers like China. He believed that the wealthy elite had an obligation to help bring the lowest people up and that no one should be living in poverty. Although these are great ideals, they are not practical in implementation because money is not the only reason that there are poverty stricken areas. There is a social and familial aspect to that as well. A large majority of Ted Turner’s wealth went into his organizations that were set up to protect the environment and to help try to end hunger and poverty around the world. Ted Turner was an incredible and great man. He truly wanted to save the Earth like Captain Planet, and he devoted much of his life to this cause. He
also created the biggest media outlets of the century and put world news inside every living room in the United States, truly opening our eyes to the world around us. Ted Turner passed away at the age of 87, on May 6th 2026, due to complications of his neurological condition, Lewy Body Dementia. He leaves behind his family, friends and colleagues and billions of people whose lives he affected through his media outlets and his legacy will live on forever. May your conservation efforts never die and may you rest in peace.

Newcomer makes powerful entrance with his debut album “Life Change”
In a genre where authenticity is everything, reggae newcomer mRtinez makes a deliberate and powerful entrance with his debut album “Life Change,” arriving April 15, 2026, on DubShot Records. Arriving early gave me a chance to watch the Recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, Jamaica, the spiritual home of reggae music, Life Change is rooted in tradition while speaking firmly to the present. The album is helmed by Squidly Cole, the acclaimed drummer whose work with Stephen Marley has helped shape the modern roots sound, alongside co-production from mRtinez himself.
But Life Change is not simply about credentials, it’s about intention.
Built over years of personal and artistic development, the album reflects a journey of transformation. Its themes move through growth, resilience, and self-realization, delivered through a soundscape that honors reggae’s foundations: live instrumentation, deep grooves, and messagedriven songwriting.
“There’s a lineage to this music,” mRtinez explains. “Recording at Tuff Gong, working with musicians who live and breathe this sound, it pushes you to be honest. This album is about that honesty. It’s about change, in every sense.”

Step 1
ello again RED INK foodies! In this issue we hope you enjoy our wonderful recipe selection for this month. We are always happy to share with our readers a fun recipe for you to try. Enjoy!
Sprinkle the roast with 3 tablespoons of the salt, rubbing into the grain and covering all sides. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 3 hours and up to 3 days.
Step 2
Arrange a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat to 275 degrees F.
Step 3
Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large heavy pot or Dutch oven over high heat. Cook the meat, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
Step 4
Reduce the heat to medium-high and heat the remaining 4 tablespoons oil in the pot. Cook the onions and the remaining 1 tablespoon salt, stirring occasionally, until browned but not completely cooked through, 6 to 8 minutes (it's ok if the onion wedges break apart). Add the garlic and tomato paste and cook, stirring occasionally, until the paste is brick red and the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the wine and bay leaves and cook, stirring occasionally and scraping the bottom of the pot, until slightly reduced and you can no longer smell the alcohol, about 4 minutes. Add the flour, stir to coat the onions and cook for 1 minute. Stir in the broth and pepper and bring to a boil.
Step 5
Nestle the meat and any accumulated juices into the onions. Arrange the carrots, celery and potatoes around the roast, pushing them into the onions and surrounding the beef. Cover and transfer to the oven. Cook until the meat is very tender but still holds its shape and is not falling apart, 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Let rest, covered, at least 45 minutes before serving.
Step 6
Transfer the roast to a cutting board and remove the twine with scissors, if necessary. Slice against the grain.
Step 7
Divide the vegetables among plates and arrange the sliced beef over top. Spoon sauce over the top garnish with parsley and chives.

One 4-pound boneless beef chuck roast, trimmed and tied
4 tablespoons kosher salt
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 large onions, cut into 2-inch wedges
4 cloves garlic, finely grated
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 cup dry red wine
2 bay leaves
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
7 carrots, peeled, cut into 3-inch pieces
4 stalks celery, cut into 3-inch pieces
2 pounds medium red potatoes, quartered (halved if small)
Chopped flat-leaf parsley, for garnish
