SIX60
New Zealand’s biggest band return with new single “We Made It”
N
ew Zealand’s biggest band, SIX60, have released their latest single We Made It, marking the next chapter in their evolution as demand for the band continues to build across the UK. Over the past few years, their live shows have drawn increasingly enthusiastic audiences well beyond London, with performances spanning England, Scotland and Wales. JESSE JACKSON Civil Rights Icon dies at age 84 after long illness
T
he Reverend Jesse Jackson was born Jesse Louis Burns on October 8th, 1941 in Greenville, SC. He is known for being a very polarizing figure in the world of social and political activists. He fought for Black / AfricanAmerican Rights and LGBTQ rights and equality. Jackson was born into a world of segregation and Jim Crow Laws. A time when black people could not be in the same place at the same time as white people, a time when blacks had to ride in the back of the bus and a time when facilities were completely separate; everything from schools, and dance halls, to restaurants and libraries. It was a dark time in U.S. History and it is no surprise that someone who was born with the charismatic gifts of gab and charm would become outspoken about such things. At an early age, Jesse decided the way things were was not right and that he and all black people deserved better and began joining in
8
on peaceful protests and eventually joined up with none other than Martin Luther King Jr.. In college Jesse was forced to switch from the University of Illinois to North Carolina A &T because discrimination at the prior was keeping him from realizing his true potential in both athletics and academics. In North Carolina, which was a black university, he became a star quarterback and the class President, so the differences in opportunities were clear. Soon after graduating he started working for King Jr. and joined King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference. But even then it was clear to King that Jackson had two goals, one of helping people and another of helping himself. This was the primary reason that even though, King had taken him under his wing, that after King’s death Jesse Jackson was bypassed when a new leader of the organization was selected. And the reason was Jackson’s selfserving ambition and constant attention-seeking. But personal ambition did not overshadow his accomplishments.

Jackson led Operation Breadbasket in Chicago which helped to promote and encourage economic growth for black people and black owned businesses. It was during Operation Breadbasket in Chicago that Jesse Jackson met his protégé, another very polarizing figure, Reverend Al Sharpton. During his time in Chicago, Jackson began to butt heads with the new leader of the SCLC, Ralph Abernathy. It got to the point where he was told to relocate the operation out of Chicago and in direct rejection of that order, he instead held the Black Expo where black businessmen and politicians from all over the country came to Chicago to attend. After this, Abernathy reviewed receipts from the Expo and found significant discrepancies and suspended Jackson from the Organization. This led to the reverend
setting up his own organizations called Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition. PUSH stood for People United to Save Humanity and later “the s became Serve.” And the Rainbow coalition was simply titled so because he believed all people regardless of color or creed make up the rainbow that is the light of the world. The Rainbow part eventually took on other significance as he helped fight for gay and lesbian rights, including the right to gay marriage with the same fervor that he fought to end racial oppression. Eventually the two organizations merged into one. It was also during this time that Jesse Jackson began proving his mettle as a humanitarian and proponent of world peace and then pursuing more political endeavors, including two runs at becoming President of the United States of America.

Regardless, of anyone’s opinions on Jesse Jackson, his actions truly did save lives. He became known as an expert negotiator when it came to getting political and military prisoners released. In 1983 he travelled to Syria and negotiated to have Robert Goodman, a downed and captured American pilot, released. President Ronald Reagan was doubtful that Jackson could do anything, but it was in fact the Reverends personal plea to the President of Syria that trumped all other negotiation efforts that had failed and he got the airmen released. In 1984, Jackson repeated this same miracle with Cuba when he was personally invited to visit by Fidel Castro and was able to negotiate the release of 22 Americans being held there. And then again at the start of the Persian Gulf War, Jackson was able to convince Saddam Hussein to release several British and 20 Americans who were being held as human shields. Reverend Jackson also helped bring an end to apartheid in South Africa and helped to create Peace between Ireland and England with his help during the Belfast Agreement. He even helped smooth things over with Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez after a televangelist in America told the world that he should be assassinated. Jesse Jackson’s amazing knack for speech and compromise with world leaders was something that definitely deserves to be recognized. It is actually quite shocking that with all of these political accomplishments, he did not do better than he did in the polls during his two Presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988. Reverend Jesse Jackson is often viewed as polarizing because he became personally wealthy, to the tune of nearly $10 million, through all of his activist efforts, TV spots, book deals, etc., etc. But money and personal wealth alone cannot and should not overshadow the amazing accomplishments of this man. He fought for equality and fairness for everyone. He was pivotal in the civil rights movement, he was a loud voice for the 10
LGBTQ community and their right to be married and enjoy the same misery as the rest of us, he was a significant voice on the international front bringing the same ideas of peace and equality to South Africa, Cuba, Ireland and so many other countries, and when called upon, he helped bring home dozens of captured American political prisoners and soldiers from multiple hostile and dangerous countries that would not even converse with the existing leadership of the U.S. To say that Reverend Jesse Jackson helped to shape the world we live in today would be an understatement. Sadly, on February 17th, 2026, Reverend Jesse Jackson died in his home. He had long suffered with severe gastrointestinal issues, Parkinson’s Disease and most recently Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Mr. Jackson, you may be gone but your work and efforts to make the world a better place for everyone equally, will live on forever. May you rest in peace.

ERIC DANE Grey’s Anatomy and Last Ship Star, died at 53
E
ric Dane was born Eric William Melvin on November 9th, 1972, in San Francisco, CA. Eric Dane is most well known for his two iconic roles. The most famous, was of course Dr. Mark Sloan aka Doc McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy and the next was his iconic role as the Ship Captain Tom Chandler in the apocalyptic drama The Last Ship. Dane was yet another actor who caught the acting bug after preforming in school plays. After Eric turned 20 he moved to L.A. and began his acting career. Early on he had several small roles on big shows including Married With Children, Rosanne, The Wonder Years and Saved by the Bell. His first recurring role was on Gideon’s Crossing and then he was on Charmed for two seasons. And a few years later he was the star of primetimes hottest medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. Although, not as iconic, he also had roles in 25 other television shows and had several roles in AAA movies including X-Men: The Last Stand and Bad Boys: Ride or Die and several starring roles in movies including Burlesque, Open Water 2: Adrift, Marley & Me and Valentine’s Day. Life was not all roses and caviar however, Eric had to learn to deal with tragedy at the 12
early age of 7 when his father took his own life and over the years, he had several bouts with treatment for substance abuse and depression, for obvious reasons. However, for the most part Eric Dane lived a fulfilling life with his magnificent roles and spending time with his loving wife and his two daughters, whom he called ‘his world’.

Unfortunately tragedy struck in 2024, when he started to notice some tremors and issues with motor skills and in 2025 he was diagnosed with ALS. Sadly, in the prime of his life and career, he lost that battle on February 19th, 2026 when he died from respiratory failure related to ALS. Eric Dane, you will be missed by many
including your cherished wife and daughters and countless fans, especially those who gave you the moniker Doc McSteamy, but you will live on forever in the hearts of your family and in the amazing and memorable characters you helped bring to life on the screen. JAMES VAN DER BEEK Beloved actor gone too soon, Dawson’s Creek Star, died at 48
J
ames David Van Der Beek was born on March 8th, 1977 in Cheshire, CT. James caught the acting bug early on, in his love for school plays. At age 15, he had his mother take him to New York to find an agent and get representation. His professional career began in off-Broadway plays at age 16, something he continued to enjoy even after his acting career took off. In 1997 he was able to audition for three big television projects and the one that turned out to be gold for him, was Dawson’s Creek where he was chosen as the titular character. His next most iconic role was in Varsity Blues. Over his career he appeared in over 40 television shows, including Modern Family, The Masked Singer, CSI: Cyber, Medium, How I met Your Mother, and many others with some starring roles sprinkled in. He also appeared 14
in over 20 Films including several starring roles, in The Plague, The Rules of Attraction, The Gates and Formosa Betrayed to name a few. His career was moving at full speed with filming of The Gates just being completed and the film is actually being released posthumously. He was living life to the fullest and focusing as much time as he could with his large family of 6 children and his wife with whom he had just renewed their vows, a few days before his death. While he was living life and enjoying family and career, fate had other plans. In 2023, he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer, which ultimately took his life entirely too soon, on February 11th, 2026 at the young age of 48. James, you will be missed but never forgotten, you leave behind a legacy of a wonderful family and memorable characters. May you rest in peace. By Michael Devine u

REDINK: Who or what influenced you to become an artist, and at what age did it all begin? KY: At an early age about 15 /16 I caught the music bug seriously, I’ve been meddling around singing in high school with my boys but never touched a real stage, then one night my friend Smokey our young star in the community, called me on a state at “Golden Town Law” in Stewart Town St Mary, and performed a song call “Guide Us While We Trod”, the 1st song i ever wrote, I got a lovely response from the crowd and a feeling came over me saying, this what I want to do for the rest of my life, not having a clue about what I’m doing, all i know is that it felt good. But Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, John Lennon, Buju Banton, Sizzla as played a great roll in my choice of music I do cause their music resonate with my soul, then one day I hear a voice on the radio singing, “you got a fast car” it was Tracy Chapman, it blew my mind away. I dreamt that I was playing the guitar one night and I picked it up and I never looked back since. REDINK: Tell us some of your struggles in the business, if any. KY: The struggles I encounter are the politics behind the scene of the music where people are ego driven, selfish and cut throat all in the same breath. ello again RED INK foodies! In this issue we hope you enjoy our wonderful recipe selection for this month. We are always happy to share with our readers a fun recipe for you to try. Enjoy!
RECIPE: Cheesy Zucchini & Chicken “Enchiladas”
Instructions: Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Step 2 Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the scallion whites and garlic and cook, stirring frequently, until soft, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle in the chili powder and cook, stirring, until the scallions are coated and the oil is brick red, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat and stir in the chicken, 1/2 cup of the salsa and 1/2 cup of the cheese. Set aside. Step 3 Halve the zucchini lengthwise and arrange cut-side down on a work surface. Use a Y-shaped vegetable peeler to shave off ribbons the entire length of each zucchini and as wide as possible (the first few may be too skinny). Make 36 zucchini ribbons total. Step 4
2 tablespoons vegetable oil 4 scallions, sliced (white and green parts separated) 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 1 tablespoon chili powder 3 cups shredded rotisserie chicken (skin discarded) 1 1/2 cups salsa (not chunky) 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese 3 to 4 medium zucchini Several dashes chipotle hot sauce, plus more for serving, optional 2 tablespoons sour cream
Lay out 3 ribbons, slightly overlapping to make a rectangle (think of this as your "tortilla"). Pile about 1/4 cup of the chicken mixture down along one of the short ends of the zucchini tortilla and then roll up to enclose the filling. Put in a 2- to 3-quart baking dish. Roll up the remaining zucchini ribbons and filling and arrange in the dish. Top the rolls with the remaining 1 cup salsa. Add several dashes of the hot sauce and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup cheese.

Bake until the cheese is melted and the filling is hot, about 25 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes. Thin the sour cream out with a little water and drizzle over the enchiladas.
