he Everglades Roots Festival is a grassroots winter gathering held each January at Trail L a k e s Campground in Florida, bringing together bluegrass, Southern rock, folk, jam bands, and singersongwriters for a laid-back celebration beneath the cypress trees. What began as a small pickin’ party has grown into a weekend of campfires, pickin’ circles, touring and local talent, camping, craft and food vendors, and immersive swamp-culture experiences unique to the Big Cypress. BRIGITTE BARDOT International Sex Symbol, Actress, Model and Animal Right’s Activist, died at 91
B
rigitte Anne-Marie Bardot was born on September 28th, 1934 in Paris, France. She was born to aristocratic ultra- conservative parents and regardless went on to become one of the greatest sex symbols of her generation. Brigitte began with a passion for dance with some pressure from her parents and after years of ballet instruction was eventually accepted to the prestigious college of dance, the Conservatoire de Paris. However her natural beauty and talent would lead her away from dance and more into the spotlight. In 1949, at the age of 15 she was noticed by the Director of Magazines for Elle, which she was featured on the cover that same year. She would go on to become a “Style Icon” for the next two decades, and was a muse for the most famous French fashion houses including Dior, Balmain and Pierre Cardin. She was considered to have one of the most iconic faces and looks of the 1950’s and 1960’s. She was deemed the “Sex Kitten” of the world and declared one of the most beautiful women alive during those decades, alongside, Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe. For decades she was the face of France. Additionally, she became “the muse” for the entire world and is credited with being the single most influential person in making the bikini style bathing suit popular after wearing them in some early movies and at the beach during the Cannes film festival, which challenged societal norms of more modest one piece and high-waisted bathing suits of the era. Brigitte acted in many dozens of French films, but none more famous or infamous than And God Created Woman, in 1965. This is the movie that changed the world and catapulted her to stardom. Although, in foreign films nudity and sexuality had been seen before, but at the time there had not been

an internationally released movie that had so much depiction of a liberated and sexualized woman as this movie had. There was so much that the “Moral Authority” led to many movie theater owners around the United States to be jailed for screening the movie in some very strict states and towns. However even so, the movie still went on to become the highest grossing foreign film ever in the United States at that time. It also caused a stir and many ensuing legal battles that changed what was considered “decent and moral for public distribution in cinema” forever. Continued on page 10

Continued from page 9 Brigitte Bardot was not only an International fashion icon and silver screen sex symbol but also a huge activist for the well-being of animals worldwide. She devoted most of her post retirement years, from 1973 to 2025 to developing and working with her foundation, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation fighting for animal rights, and trying to prevent unnecessary animal deaths, all over the world. She was also very outspoken in political and social views, where she maintained a strong belief and devotion to promoting the far right, and the ideals associated including cutting back on unrestricted immigration to preserve safety and security for citizens and for cutting back on the push for ever increasing LGBT rights and also a push back against the “me too” movement claiming that men are not the only ones utilizing sex for power. Brigitte Bardot was a very polarizing figure, with the majority of the world adoring her for her beauty and
contributions to sexual and fashion freedoms, and for her animal rights efforts. However there are now many trying to posthumously “Cancel “her for her political and social views, which quite frankly is a sickening attempt to sully an incredible person’s name after their death. Brigitte Bardot died from complications related to a recent health issue that required hospitalization. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor for decades as well. She died in her home in Saint-Tropez, France on December 28th, 2025. She was 91. Brigitte Bardot lived a long and prosperous life, full of freedom. She changed the world for the better, making bikinis the norm on beaches worldwide and helping the film industry to be able to have creative freedom in what they produce. I know that the world will remember her fondly and she will never be forgotten, no matter how much the liberal outlets will try to sully her legacy. Rest in Peace. By Michael Devine u 10

ROB REINER Renowned Actor and Filmmaker, Murdered in Own Home at Age 78
R
obert Reiner was born March 6th, 1947 in New York City. The thirst for the silver screen was in his blood. Both of his parents, Estelle and Carl Reiner were successful actors, and his siblings are involved with theatre and movies. The Hollywood world was definitely something that Rob was born to be a part of, and his list of accomplishments and accolades proves it. Rob started acting at age 14 with a small role on the TV series Manhunt and then throughout the 1960’s he had minor roles on some of the biggest network shows of the era, including: Batman (with Adam West), The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle – USMC, and The Beverly Hillbillies. He also began his true passion of writing and directing during the same decade. He wrote for

The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1968 and in 1969 he directed his first play at the Oxford Theatre in L.A. He went on to write for other comedy shows including The Headmaster and The Super. His big break in acting came in 1970, where he would play his most acclaimed role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the comedy All in the Family. This role earned him two primetime Emmy Awards. Even though he was an incredible comedic acting talent, his true passion was behind the camera lens as a writer, director and producer. After All in the Family ended in 1979, Rob Reiner would go on to create some of the greatest Comedic, Romantic, and Dramatic movies of the last fifty years. Continued on page 14

He was responsible for Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, Sleepless in Seattle, EDtv, The Wolf of Wall Street, The First Wives Club, Primary Colors, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men and many others. He continued acting in some of the same films he directed as well. Mr. Reiner’s talent for creating incredible and memorable films and characters is legendary; earning him dozens of Academy award and Golden Globe nominations and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Unfortunately, his brilliant career was cut short on December 14th, 2025 in what one can only call an absolute tragedy. After attending a Christmas party at the home of Conan O’Brien, his friend
and neighbor, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were senselessly and brutally stabbed to death and murdered when they returned to their family home. The top suspect in the death is their own son, Nick Reiner, who is a known substance abuse user and addict who had an altercation with his father at the Christmas party. This is an incredibly sad and disturbing situation, and our hearts go out to the Reiner family who are dealing with unfathomable circumstances right now. Rob Reiner, you were taken from the world at the height of your career and your life. You will be missed dearly and mourned, but you will never be forgotten, because your iconic characters and films are legendary and will live on forever in the Annals of Film History. igel Rojas, frontman of the iconic Caribbean Reggae-Rock band Orange Sky, has released his compelling new single “Too Many”, a track infused with Afrobeat energy and grounded in profound emotional and global awareness. The song arrives as the latest chapter in the singer-songwriter’s creative evolution, leading into the band’s 30th anniversary EP set for release in April 2026. “Too Many” was born from a striking three-minute moment of contrast; one that blended beauty, fragility, and the heartbreak of global conflict. Rojas recalls watching a butterfly rest motionless on his windowsill, believing it to be injured, only to see it suddenly lift into the sky. As birds chirped outside, a news broadcast abruptly cut through the peaceful scene with reports of bombings in Gaza and innocent lives lost. “It was this ambush of emotion, the sweetness of nature and the harshness of reality that instantly inspired the song,” said Rojas. Za'atar Chicken Sheet Pan Dinner Aluminum foil
Instructions:
2 medium zucchini 2 medium yellow squash 1 (15 oz) can garbanzo beans
Step 1 Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with foil. Cut zucchini and squash into 1-inch cubes. Drain and rinse garbanzo beans. Place zucchini, squash, and beans on baking sheet and toss with 2 tablespoons oil and 1 teaspoon salt.
Step 2 Coat chicken with garlic, za'atar, and remaining 2 tablespoons oil and 1/2 teaspoon salt (wash hands). Place chicken on top of vegetable mixture and bake 35– 40 minutes or until chicken is 165°F. Meanwhile, slice
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided 1 3/4 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts 1 tablespoon garlic spice paste 2 tablespoons za'atar spice mix 2 green onions 1/4 cup fresh Italian parsley 1 lemon 1/4 cup tahini (sesame paste)
green onions, chop parsley coarsely, and cut lemon into wedges Step 3 Slice chicken, arrange over vegetables, and drizzle with tahini. Top with green onions and parsley and serve with lemon wedges Enjoy!
