ormally when we hear Christopher Martin, he's singing about love. Songs like "Paper Loving"and "Cheaters Prayer" are two examples of the artist performing emotions felt by fanworldwide. Recently, Christopher teamed with Jordan from Chimney Records to participate on the Aircraft Riddim. The result is "Big Big!" Imagine if we all had a rich Mommy and Daddy who could 4

have given us everything in the world we needed or wanted? Life would have been much easier yes? Maybe not! Everything from pretending that the River was the Beach, to dreaming about living the good life, Christopher Martin walks us through going from the 'poor' life in the country, to now dating the hottest girls to living in a mansion to wearing designer clothes. He's not hype, he's walking us through his transition which is "Big Big!"

Andre Porter JAMAICAN AUTHOR

ndre M. Porter is a 42-year-old Jamaicanborn author based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he has five novels, won several international awards and shows no sign of slowing down. He has his own perfume line called André Porter 7, and received the 2014 Young, Gifted and Black Entrepreneurial Award for Dynamic Writing. "As a young man who grew up in Kingston, he wanted his success to represent hope for youth who think that it is not possible. The same thing Usain Bolt did for Jamaicans through sports, and what Bob Marley did for reggae music, Porter wants to do that for literature. He also wants to use his pen to place Jamaica on the map as a country that can produce great authors.

A

Porter’s next film project, Tears From My Pen. This, novel is the story of an investment banker who found out his wife was six weeks pregnant for another man infected with HIV. It has taken him a lot of work to get to this point, where he is now getting one of his novels filmed. A project like this requires investment, and we are grateful for those who came on board to support the vision, said Porter. “I am sure persons from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds will appreciate this movie when it is completed because of its diversity, said Porter.” In addition to Tears From My Pen, other books he has written include Mirror & the Reflection, a true story about a powerful obeah man, written in the Jamaican context, where he seeks to provide a resolution to his clients' problems; The Rise and Fall of a Jamaican Don, which is a fictional novel that talks about organized crime in Jamaica, and which is akin to a mafia organization; Chasing the American Dream - part two of The Rise and Fall of a Jamaican Don where a crime boss transforms his enterprise into a legitimate corporate entity in the United States of America. Porter Porter also released another book Diary of an Orphan, focusing on the life of Pandit Ramlall - a highly respected spiritual leader from Guyana. Porter is also partnering with the government of Guyana for a Read Across the World project 8

to encourage children to read and express themselves through literature. After being incarcerated and found not guilty, Porter decided to write another book coming soon Guilty after Proven Innocent. Still not slowing down, Porter started a film production company Ghetto Pot Production, he is aiming to become the “Caribbean Tyler Perry,” says Porter. RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Andre M. Porter. REDINK: At what age did you realize that you wanted to be a writer? AP: Age 10 after falling in love with poetry REDINK: How did it feel when you finished your first book? AP: Overwhelming but humbling achievement REDINK: What made you interested in film production? AP: My mom told me to start doing film before she died REDINK: Will you continue to write for years to come, or will you focus more on film? AP: Yes of course, I will continue my writing. REDINK: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? AP: The Caribbean Tyler Perry or James Patterson All the best to this humble and ambitious entrepreneur. Much love from RED INK Magazine u

Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival New York Postponed to July 2021

The producers of the annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival New York, has announced that due to the overwhelming effects and concerns about the coronavirus, they have decided to postpone the 2020 Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival New York to July 25, 2021. “As we continue to experience the COVID-19 Pandemic, the health and safety of our fans, employees, vendors, exhibitors, and our corporate partners are of paramount importance,” stated Richard Lue, Festival Director. Chef Cybille, Celebrity Chef Throwdown Champion for 2019, proudly displays her Dutch Pot Trophy. The celebrity cook-off challenge is one of the many features at the annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival New York, which culminates with a massive music concert. The Management Team feels that this is the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. In keeping with their usual innovative approach, Managing Partner, Eddy Edwards advised that “We are currently exploring options with team members to present an online experience in the coming weeks. Our goal is to showcase segments of the festival, engage our supporters and feature some exciting entertainers.” Updates will be shared on the event’s website at www.jerkfestivalny.com as well as their Facebook and Instagram channels. We look forward to presenting the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival NY in 2021 as we celebrate our 10th anniversary in a manner that will bring fans, media, and the community together in a showcase that celebrates the food, music, and culture of the Caribbean. My Wife, My Daughter and My self were Covid19 Positive – Peter Psquare Peter Okoye better known as Peter Psquare or Mr P, says he, his wife, Lola Okoye and daughter, Aliona have tested positive to coronavirus. The singer, who disclosed this in a video clip which has gone viral, said he had been sick and he never knew he had contracted the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. ”For the past three weeks, I have been ill and most people didn’t even know what was wrong with me. I kept it to myself. It has been three weeks of hell for me and my family. ”I had COVID19 for about three weeks and it happened to me. ”I was sick and I tested positive. ”The reason why I came out to say it is because I am going to encourage a lot of people concerning this whole social distancing, getting used to sanitizing your hands, disinfecting your environment, wearing your face mask and all that. ”It’s been hell for this family in this house. Not just me. Even two of my domestic staff. ”After a week, my daughter caught the virus as well. It was sad that when she caught it, the doctor insisted that she has to be self- isolated in her own room but my wife did something very courageous. She said no. ”I was sick and I was being self-isolated in my guest room. I couldn’t even see my sick daughter and I was feeling so bad. I felt so bad because I felt that I am the one who actually brought the virus to the house. It was so bad that I had to be calling her on video, checking on her. ”The next day, my wife did something very courageous. She picked our daughter from her room, held her and took her to the master bedroom and she called me and she started crying. I asked her what happened and she said I cannot live this girl alone. I would rather be infected and be with her. “Five or six days later, my daughter was pronounced negative. When she was pronounced negative, we knew it wasn’t going to end there. The next day, Lola became positive. It has been hell but we had a bad experience. ”I just want to tell everybody that this COVID19 is real. Don’t take it for granted. ”I am happy to announce that my wife, myself, our daughter and two of our domestic staff all of us are now negative,” he said u 19

Comedy Legend and Celebrity Maker Carl Reiner Dead at 98

UCarl Reiner, best known as the director, writer and costar of the Dick Van Dyke Show, died of natural causes in his home, at the age of 98. He was a comedy legend. He got his start acting on Broadway, which at the time was a huge leap considering he started his early adult life as a tinkerer following in his watchmaker father’s footsteps. He was actually working as a sewing machine repairman when he got his first acting role at the behest of his brother. He began acting in the show Inside U.S.A and later earned the starring role in Call Me Mister, on Broadway. His big break and the start of his lifelong friendship with Mel Brooks came when he was cast in Your Show of Shows. It was there that he worked alongside Mel Brooks and Neil Simon preforming and writing comedy skits. Reiner and Brooks became instant friends and soon went on to be a comedy duo in The Steve Allen Show, which became a household name and spun off into five comedy albums and an animated TV special. Then came the role of a lifetime where he became a writer, director and co-star of the Dick Van Dyke Show, one of the most successful comedy series of all time. 20

Eventually, he began to focus more on the directing and writing and eventually became known as a celebrity maker, as every actor that graced his show was blessed with incredible success in the future. His writing and directorial talents, helped every star and co-star of the Dick Van Dyke Show reach for the literal stars in Hollywood. He also helped Steve Martin, another comedy legend in his own right, become the success that we know him as today. Reiner, co-wrote four of Martin’s early films, that lead to his breakout success; those were The Jerk, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, The Man With Two Brains and All of Me. These were the early movies that launched Steve Martin’s incredible career. Carl Reiner’s legacy will live on forever on the silver screen, and will live on contemporarily through his actor/comedian son, Rob Reiner, who also has an incredible career of his own. Carl, you lived a long life and entertained us throughout its entirety. Thank you for the laughs and know that you will be missed dearly. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to your family and fans u

Rapper Huey Murdered in His Home Town

Rapper Huey, born Lawrence Franks Jr., was mur- single in April of 2020 titled, Pulled Away. This dered in a double shooting on June 26th. He was 32. He was known to the world as the hip hop artist Huey, and the creator of the dance hit, Pop, Lock and Drop It. To his family and friends he was just ‘LJ.’ The rapper hit the scene hard with Pop, Lock and Drop It, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top 100 in 2007 and remained in the top 100 for 23 weeks, along with the dance that accompanied the song, which became a staple for the ladies in the hip hop clubs. Huey’s first album was called Notebook Paper and his second album released in 2010 was titled Redemption. Although he never had another hit as big as his first single, he remained a solid name on the scene and just recently released another

young rapper was definitely taken too soon in this senseless tragedy. He was gunned down in the street and later died in the hospital; the second victim of the shooting was taken to the hospital after reporting it to the police. The rapper was gunned down in Kinloch, a small suburb just outside of St. Louis, incidentally it was the same town Huey was born and raised in. The police are still investigating the shooting and murder and hopefully justice will be found soon to give Mr. Franks’ family some closure. Our hearts go out to family and fans alike. Healthy Eating AT THE HEART OF THE MATTER by Fazia Khan Parmar

elcome back to my recipe corner. I hope you all are having a wonderful start to summer. I want to share with you today a satisfying pasta dish that is delicious and not terribly heavy. It would be a perfect side for those quick summer dinners when you just don’t want to be in the kitchen too long. A perfect side would be a grilled lemon chicken and asparagus. I find that I enjoy these lighter sauces in the summer and that has that bright lemon flavor.

W

Try incorporating lemons to as many meals and drinks as possible. In addition to being refreshing it is a great source of vitamin C, supports hydration, may assist in weight loss goals, and gives you beautifully glowing skin. It’s also pretty easy to find fresh lemons for much of the year. So when life gives you lemons…make this cheesy lemon pasta! Instructions: 1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add penne and cook according to package directions, until al dente. Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain. Set aside. 2.Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon oil. Cook asparagus until crispy, then season with pinch of salt. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

T RY   O U R M E N U Bon Appetite

RECIPE:

Lemony Asparagus Pasta Ingredients: 1 lb. penne pasta 1 lb. thin asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2″ pieces 3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, 1 small onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 1/2 c. heavy cream 1 c. dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc 1 lemon, zested and juiced 1 tsp. kosher salt 1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan, plus more for serving 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper, plus more for serving 1/4 c. fresh parsley, finely chopped 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

3.Heat remaining 2 tablespoons oil over medium heat. Cook onions and garlic until softened, about 5 minutes. Add heavy cream, white wine, lemon juice, and zest. Bring mixture to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Add in salt, Parmesan, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and mix until well combined. 4.Turn off heat and mix in pasta, asparagus, and parsley until well coated. Add small amounts of pasta water until you reach desired consistency. Serve with more grated Parmesan, cracked black pepper, and red pepper flakes. *Disclaimer: I am not a physician or medical professional. If you have any medical issues or concerns, please always consult your doctor before committing to a challenge. The challenges are intended for introducing small lifestyle changes in a fun and easy format.

the coronavirus pandemic has left folks confined to their homes, the stay-at-home order is offering plenty of time to recharge and renew in the style department. Organize your closet with expert help. Learn to crochet or sew, find you favorite patterns and get started. Given all the lacy crochet knits seen on the spring and summer runways — from dresses at L.A. label Jonathan Simkhai, Stella McCartney, Marni and Kate Spade New York to tops by Altuzarra and

Giambattista Valli — it is prime time to unearth (or order) crochet hooks. A representative for the brand We Are Knitters said there was a 120% increase in sales last week, compared with the previous week. The company offers free video tutorials and patterns (from crocheted laptop sleeves and totes to blankets and slippers) and sells supplies and kits. (Our top picks are the $72 Keaau tee and $54 Cozumel bikini). The Knitting Tree LA in Inglewood offers FaceTime shopping by appointment; orders can be charged by phone at (310) 395-3880 and shipped or picked up curbside. July will be a period of many changes for you. You will feel that there are no things that you can not overcome. Freedom will add you wings. More willingly than usual, you will meet people, talk to friends, and make plans (Feb 19 - Mar 20) for the development of your emotional life.
