How did you personally get started in the music industry? I have been playing music since I was very young but probably started in the “business” side of it when my band Mogwai made our first 7” single in Spring 1996.

We know you can’t choose, but what’s been your favorite label release, and why? It’s perhaps recency bias but the new Arab Strap record is very, very good.

Is the label tied to a specific geographical area, and if so, how is this reflected in your releases? We release a lot of Scottish music as we are based here. I think it gives the label a real identity

If you had the budget, what would be your dream “outsidethe-box” or “crossover” marketing campaign? I would sponsor Celtic F.C.

What is the meaning behind the name for the label? Rock Action was the nickname of Scott Ashton, the drummer in The Stooges who are one of our favourite bands.

How do you feel about the rising costs of vinyl records? And what about the continued popularity of the CD format? It’s a shame how expensive records have become to make (and buy!) and I think that is why CDs have retained their popularity.

If you had to start a new sub-label, what would it be called and what kind of music would it be geared towards? Goth Action to release Goth records. How has the label changed since it started? It was completely DIY at the beginning and is now a lot more professional, using pluggers and PR as well as having worldwide distribution. How would you describe your overall ambitions and goals as a label from when you first started compared to now? It was always to release good music and I don’t think that that has changed over the years. Where do you go to search for new music? Who or what has been a new find (on the label or otherwise) you’d like to rave about? I get a lot of recommendations from friends. The best band I’ve heard in a while is Shaky Hands. They’re very good.

What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now? I think the main answer is the internet. How people consume and pay for music is completely different than when we started. How do you view the issue of being environmentally sustainable within the music industry? It’s something we try to do as much as we can. Want to shout out a personal favorite record store or retail establishment? Now’s your chance: Monorail music industry Glasgow and World Of Echo in London are friends and great establishments and in the US, Mississippi Records in Portland. They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or sohow would you like the label to be remembered? As one that put out a lot of good records.

Rock Action Records is a fiercely independent Glasgow-based record label, owned and run by influential Scottish rockers Mogwai. From its very beginnings in 1996 the label has operated with an ethos that reflects the independent spirit of its owners. Fast forward to 2026 and both Mogwai and Rock Action are celebrating an incredible 30 years, with the label a successful home for a diverse range of artists, including Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Kathryn Joseph, bdrmm and Cloth.

BONOBO DISTANCE IN STATIC Release Date: 09-11-2026 “I want to reinforce this idea that you can be more than one thing,” Green explains. It’s that duality – of live artist and DJ, introspective composer and club-focussed selector – that sits at the heart of latest album ‘Distance in Static’, a record that is full of depth, detail and emotion; both beautiful and banging; quintessentially Bonobo, yet pushing beyond the contours of what a Bonobo album has traditionally been. A large portion of the record was created at Neil Young’s legendary Broken Arrow Ranch studio in Woodside, California – an environment Green describes as deeply immersive and creatively transformative. A pivotal track to emerge from these Ranch sessions was the enchanting “Fire on the Water”, featuring Arooj Aftab, who travelled down from her NYC base to record what became a breakthrough moment during the album’s creation. Evolving, almost accidentally, from a rough acoustic guitar loop recorded while Green was testing studio inputs one morning. Elsewhere, tracks like “Drift” and “Me and You” perfectly encapsulate the album’s club-focussed leanings, with both quickly emerging as firm fan favorites in Green’s recent DJ sets. Buried within the ‘Distance in Static’ universe, there is also a sense that this record – and particularly the accompanying live tour – marks something quite monumental, too. It’s a moment of transition, a celebration of Bonobo’s 25 years, but also, perhaps his last record in the traditional sense: complete with expansive guest features and a multi-year full live-band world tour.

Buddy Miller cleared out the kitchen to make room for a drum kit. What followed is his first solo album in fifteen years — twelve songs of soul, country, early rock ‘n’ roll, and gospel, made with a community of friends and collaborators that spans five decades of American music. The album opens with “As Long as I Have You,” the early Temptations hit, anchored by the McCrary Sisters, who appear throughout. From there it moves through Julie Miller co-writes (“You Never Really Get Over It,” “Losers’ Celebration,” “Masterpiece in the Sand”), a late-period Dan Penn song (“Not Enough Time to Change”), and Jesse Winchester’s devastating “Lay Down the Burden of Your Heart.” The guest list reads like a lifetime of earned trust: Shawn Colvin and Jim Lauderdale — both going back to Buddy’s New York country band of the early ‘80s — stop by to sing. Dan Penn lends sly gravitas to the Smokey Robinsonpenned “Don’t Look Back.” The War & Treaty deliver a stunning take on the Winchester track. Lee Ann Womack duets on “Stop Me.” Emmylou Harris, Larry Campbell, and Teresa Williams join on the hymn-like “The Inner Sanctum of God.” And “Till the Wheels Come Off” — written about Buddy and Julie’s love by Ashley Monroe, Elizabeth Cook, Angaleena Presley, and Meg McRee — arrives as an act of communal devotion. The core band (Fred Eltringham, Viktor Krauss, Tim Lauer, Steve Fishell, Fats Kaplin) plays with the understated nuance of musicians who have nothing left to prove. Strut presents Nigeria 80, the next essential chapter in the legendary Nigeria 70 series, diving deep into the explosive sound world of 1980s Nigeria. Following the global impact of 2001's Nigeria 70, which helped introduce rare Nigerian recordings to international audiences, Nigeria 80 continues the journey, unearthing a rich, restless, and wildly creative decade of music from Lagos to Enugu. Despite economic instability and restrictive political conditions in the 1980's, Nigeria’s music industry flourished, driven by a growing network of independent labels such as Tabansi and Phonodisk, which championed local artists and expanded creative freedom. The 1980s also marked a significant rise in visibility for female artists, with trailblazers like Onyeka Onwenu helping to reshape the landscape and open doors for a new generation of performers, writers, and producers. Nigeria 80 showcases the extraordinary breadth of this era, with all tracks reissued here for the first time. The compilation brings together essential recordings from across Nigeria’s musical spectrum: highlife greats Victor Uwaifo and Nico Mbarga appear alongside Paulson Kalu, whose personal favourite “Akugbue Nwa Ewu” stands out as a prime example of the style. Prince David Bull’s “Soko Soko” (later reinterpreted in Starboy’s Afrobeats hit “Soco”) features as a key touchpoint between eras. Segun Adewale delivers a driving juju workout, while Lekan Animashaun, longtime bandleader of Africa 70, contributes a late-era Afrobeat classic produced in collaboration with Fela Kuti. The compilation also highlights more experimental and hybrid sounds, from I.C. Rock’s proto–hip hop gem “Advice” to Evi-Edna Ogholi’s self-produced reggae statement “The World”. The set closes with “Apama” by Ibealaoke Chukwukeziri, the “Apama Boy” from Achi in eastern Nigeria, featuring hypnotic vocals and percussion from his Anaedeonu band. Third and fourth Pixies albums remastered and back in print on black vinyl and CD Continuing the band’s 40th anniversary celebrations, and hot on the heels of the first official vinyl pressing of their brilliant 4AD B-Sides compilation, Pixies are repressing studio albums Bossanova (1990) and Trompe le Monde (1991) on both black vinyl and CD. These represses feature newly remastered audio with engineer Kevin Vanbergen having returned to the band’s original analogue tapes to deliver stunning new masters that excitingly reveal more layers to these much-loved records.

Bossanova is the third Pixies album. The band continued to work with Gil Norton after collaborating to such success on their platinum-selling second album Doolittle. Their third album in as many years, 1990 was a particularly fertile time for the band with Kim Deal also having success with The Breeders, who released their debut album Pod just a few months prior.

Trompe le Monde bookended a golden run of landmark records released in quick succession that cemented Pixies as one of the best of a generation.

Featuring the singles ‘Allison’ (a tribute to jazz and blues pianist Mose Allison), ‘Dig For Fire’ and ‘Velouria’, plus the first cover to feature on one of their albums ‘Cecilia Ann’ (originally by The Surftones), Bossanova showed a less primal side to the band, with surf and space rock rising to the fore. Lyrically, Black Francis is even more cryptic with a recurring sci-fi theme running throughout, which in turn influenced Vaughan Oliver’s classic planet design for the sleeve.

Translated from French to mean “fool the world”, Trompe le Monde showed the band still restless to push their sound forward. With producer Gil Norton again at the controls, their fourth album is arguably their most playful with Black Francis’s lyrics on UFOs and conspiracy theories keeping things weird while power pop creeps in to amplify the space rock established on predecessor Bossanova. Trompe le Monde goes full throttle with 15 tracks coming in a quickfire 40-minute salvo. It proved to be the end of act one for the band with them taking over a decade before returning to stage together.

Available on vinyl for the first time EVER: Solex and Matador Records celebrate 25 years of ‘Low Kick and Hard Bop’ this September. Solex is the pseudonym of singer-songwriter and former Amsterdam record store owner Elisabeth Esselink, who came up with a deft blend of low-key techno and ‘found sounds.’

‘Solex Versus The Hitmeister’ (1998) was her debut album for Matador and was composed using snippets from crappy, unsellable CDs. In a change of tack, ‘Pick Up’ (1999) was constructed from dozens of recordings that Esselink had secretly made during the gigs of local bands in Amsterdam. It can be considered a variant of a live-album. This extraordinary technique culminates on ‘Low Kick And Hard Bop’ (2001), where she sourced material from old vinyl, television, the better-looking talk show hosts, films, bootlegs, radio, street noises, and animals. Throughout that time, Solex kept great company, performing with my bloody valentine, Cibo Matto, Yo La Tengo, and The Notwist. She has remixed Grizzly Bear, Wire and St. Vincent, and has collaborated with Mike Watt.

“15 songs built out of a dizzying array of elements: a Nancy Sinatra bassline slips by; elsewhere there is a kind of exuberance you thought went out of fashion with The B-52s. Jeff Parker The New Breed (2026 repress) Jeff Parker’s 2016 album The New Breed was a turning point for both Parker and International Anthem, changing the trajectory of his solo career as well as drawing an abundance of attention to our fresh imprint despite our then very limited catalog. Most importantly though, the album is the first to give voice to Parker’s wholly unique take on sample-based beat construction augmented by improvisation and live instrumentation (performed in this case by the high-level crew of Paul Bryan on bass, Josh Johnson on alto saxophone and keys, Jamire Williams and Jay Bellerose on drums, Parker's daughter Ruby on vocals, and Parker himself on guitar, synths, and other instruments). Anna Butterss Mighty Vertebrate Mighty Vertebrate is the International Anthem debut from Anna Butterss. The Adelaide-born bassist / composer has been a first call for LA tour and studio work since relocating there in 2014 – racking up credits with notables across the experimental, jazz, and pop worlds alike – but their most notable contributions to the burgeoning LA scene have been as a member of both Jeff Parker’s ETA IVtet and rising proto-trance supergroup SML, who Pitchfork says “represents the thrilling next phase of a vibrant L.A. community.” “I had just gotten off of a bunch of touring at the end of 2022 and just wanted to write music,” says Butterss. “The best way for me to do that, I’ve found, is to set myself a discreet and focused task. I’m going to make a song where the bass doesn’t function in the role of a bass. I’m going to work on this for an hour and then I’m going to stop. I’m going to make a song that uses groups of three-bar phrasing. I want to sample something and make it into a song. I’m going to start with a drum machine. The music itself reflects that structure beautifully, with the material being tightly composed and melodically realized by Butterss well in advance of production concerns. Herethey reconvene a group of trusted longtime collaborators to bring their compositions to fruition: Ben Lumsdaine (drums, guitar, production), Josh Johnson (sax), and Gregory Uhlmann (guitar), plus a smoking guest appearance from Jeff Parker. The breadth and scope of the results might have been difficult to achieve otherwise. From the Robbie-Shakespeare-in-groove-mode intro to the album opener “Bishop” to the spacious cinematic doom of “Seeing You”, there is a lot to wrangle into one cohesive concept. Daniel Villarreal, Jeff Parker, Anna Butterss Lados B On October 15th and 16th, 2020, drummer Daniel Villarreal was joined by guitarist Jeff Parker and bassist Anna Butterss for two afternoons of recording in the backyard of Chicali Outpost in Los Angeles. For all three musicians, it was the first ensemble recording session they’d done in-person since the pandemic locked the world down just seven months prior. Some choice moments from these sessions made it onto Villarreal’s criticallyacclaimed 2022 album Panamá 77, but most of the music remained unreleased. Lados B is a deep dive into the high-level spontaneous music made by Villarreal, Parker, and Butterss across those two days in 2020. Villarreal is heard leading the group through various rhythmic modes and structures for improvisation – flow as informed by the Latin funk of Fania Records as it is by the otherworldly humanity trance of Brain Records – while Parker and Butterss draw on their extensive experience playing free together (as heard on their ETA IVtet LPs) to build harmonic buoys for their spontaneous melodicism. The result is a beautifully vivid illustration of context, creativity, and collective composition from a particularly rich moment in history.

The ensemble’s practice is characterized by a mischievous alliance with ephemerality, lived experience, and site-specific signification with works often distributed unexpectedly and within limited physical windows. This emphasis on transience and communal memory remains central to the project’s ethos. On SOTC “II” the New York outfit channels said philosophy into a 15-track album recorded by bandleader Gio Escobar and core collaborators Jack “Wacko” Nolan, Buz “Man-man” Donald, and Clérida “Ca$h Clay” Eltimé. WHY THE LIGHTS FLICKER Telescreens is an American four piece rock band who have risen from local underground phenomenon into a national force built on volume, emotion, and a belief in rock and roll as a conduit for connection. When a British alt-soul and art-pop duo collaborates with Filipino musical royalty, the result is a blinding flash of artistic spirit that transcends geographical and generational barriers. For Margate-based act Thandii, a chaotic whirlwind of a trip to Manila allowed Graham Godfrey and Jess Berry to explore a new cultural context of songwriting. After several prolific years of self-released albums together, they took the opportunity to channel Graham’s Filipino heritage through an ambitious project proposed by the label Sama Sama Records: for Thandii to make their next album with the most recorded drummer in the Philippines, Jun Regalado. Now in his late 70s, Regalado has recently gained more recognition internationally after the reissue of his track ‘Pinoy Funk’ (from the Soundway compilation Ayo Ke Disco in 2024), along with the discovery of nearly 500 album appearances that are now finding themselves in the collections of younger generations. And on Coco Okayo - the first time he has collaborated outside of his contemporaries Regalado effectively passes the torch. In exploring a sound born of the diaspora with roots in British soul music, Coco Okayo makes full use of the polymath abilities of Thandii. While they provide vocals, percussion, flutes and production, they still manage to carve out space for regular Margate collaborators (including keyboardist Steve Pringle, Graham’s bandmate in Pigeon), as well as tapping Filipino connections in the United States such as Wyn Avillas and Ian Santillano. “It’s a new genre coming from Filipino diaspora artists paying tribute to the Manila sound of the 70s,” say Thandii, “but combining it with modern day post-punkdisco, beat-driven-art-pop music coming from the small seaside town of Margate”. However the listener might interpret it, it’s clear that Coco Okayo is not stuck between worlds, but rather, has built a utopian world of its own.

Observation Room Superstructure Brooklyn synth duo Observation Room have spent the last few years figuring out how to make cold music feel warm. On “Superstructure,” their debut full-length for à La Carte Records, Marina F and Chloe Olson trade the hypnotic precision of their self-titled EP for something stranger and more textural — synth-pop that lets the air in. The record arrives September 11.

work and trying to manage their own nervous systems in the same week, and the duo refuses the easy gesture of treating those as separate concerns. Sonically, the album tilts toward deep and dreamy rather than the cold-and-brittle palette synthpop usually settles for. Dissonance, mechanical bloops, and field recordings give the record its grain; vocal harmonies — sharpened over a year of live shows — give it its center. Marina F produced and mixed “Superstructure” in Brooklyn before sending it to Sharon Aiza Engel at Punctum Stains for mastering. There’s a little 90s house in the low end and a little dream pop in the haze, but the songs never quite settle into nostalgia. First single “Running Lights” works a relentless, headlight-after-headlight groove until the chorus pries itself open; “Lens” sprawls past five minutes without ever feeling overlong, a slow zoom from claustrophobia to something close to transcendence.

It would be easy to file “Superstructure” next to the usual EBM/post-punk forebears — Depeche Mode, Book of Love, OMD all flicker at the edges — but what’s quietly more revealing is how much of the album sits inside the older, weirder rooms those bands grew up next to: krautrock’s locked grooves, the chromium pulse of late’70s experimental synth, Tangerine Dream’s widescreen drift, early Human League’s almostmonastic discipline. Marina F and Olson have said they were less interested in copying any of that than borrowing the methodology: build a small, repeatable system, then see what colors live inside it. The result is mechanical without being airless, danceable without being beholden “Superstructure” is the first time Observation to a club. ENNEADS Enneads is a New York-based trio featuring pianist Phyllis Chen, drummer Hamir Atwal, and Zach Layton on the rare 17-string electric bass. Named after the writings of the neoplatonic philosopher Plotinus, the ensemble approaches improvisation through the ancient idea, rst articulated by Pythagoras, that harmony is “number made audible.” The trio uses natural string harmonics as the foundation of its concept of improvisation. Harmonic and inharmonic overtones, sympathetic vibrations, rhythmic proportions, and resonant room acoustics are all parameters of an emerging musical form explored through Chen, Atwal, and Layton’s intuitive approach to spontaneous composition. Layton’s gigantic and unusual instrument, the 17string bass, is played in a variety of tunings and functions almost like an ampli ed Greek Lyre (or maybe a Baroque electric Theorbo), running through heavy fuzz, distortion, and ring modulation, while Chen explores the interior of an ampli ed grand piano, producing rich constellations of expanded sound clusters, and the percussive attack of the hammers as they strike the strings, running through a Rat distortion circuit. Atwal’s drumming grounds it all through uid cycles of hypnotic pulsation and propulsive motion that contributes to a hypnotic and sensitive and tactile sense of temporal structure.

Recorded between 2024 and 2026 at Layton’s studio in New York’s Hudson Valley, the material on the Enneads’ debut self-titled record is a distillation of the trio’s approach towards improvisation. Throughout the album, harmonics drift into slowly beating patterns, while dreamy reverberant atmospheres evolve into dense layers of distorted harmonics, recalling the gravitational pull of doom metal within the context of experimental music and contemporary jazz. The rst and last tracks on the album were slowed down after recording, exploring practices pioneered by Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, (and DJ Screw) revealing temporal and harmonic relationships within the musical landscape.

Jeremiah Chiu In Electric Time On June 29th, 2023, Jeremiah Chiu walked into the Vintage Synthesizer Museum (VSM) in Highland Park, Los Angeles, with no plan more specific than “let’s fire this stuff up and see what happens.” Exploring the VSM’s vast collection of classic, rare and staple synthesizers, he would sequence, trigger, and layer the machines together with help from VSM founder/curator Lance Hill. Hill recalls: "Jeremiah arrived before the engineer showed up. We talked for maybe 5 minutes before he started programming a sound and sequence into the Gleeman Pentaphonic. By the time the engineer showed up, Jeremiah had built several other parts around the Gleeman that weren't synced by any control method but sounded like they were just calling and responding to each other. They plugged the Tascam 388 into the patch bay, and hit record. Jeremiah played with it, and that was it. First piece written and recorded in under an hour. It felt natural, fun and free. And that's pretty much how the rest of the session went. Constant ecstatic motion. It was the funnest non-HipHop session I've ever worked on." The resulting album – In Electric Time - was recorded in just two days, and edited to completion in the two days following. It was captured fully analog by engineer Ben Lumsdaine, who contributes performances on a few tracks himself. Cooper Crain (of Bitchin Bajas) makes an appearance as well; but ultimately the collection is an intuitive expression of organic electronic music conceptualized and created in-context by Chiu alone, as he calls on a lifetime of work in sound synthesis to paint a fulgent, refreshingly undercut sequence of cinematic sketches and in-process themes. In some ways, In Electric Time reflects the directness of Raymond Scott’s electronic studio recordings — with sharp cuts and room chatter — and, in others, it conjures the in-the-moment magic of Harmonia.

Ariel Kalma, Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer The Closest Thing to Silence In August 2022, the late Australia-based, French born fourth-world music legend Ariel Kalma was invited to participate in BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction series of special collaborations. The program pairs artists who have not previously worked together to create new music cooperatively. Kalma was quick to suggest working with two musicians whom he had never met – International Anthem recording artists Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer, whose critically-acclaimed duo debut Recordings from the Åland Islands had been released just a few months earlier. An invitation was sent to Chiu and Honer, which was received with great enthusiasm, as Chiu had long been a fan of Kalma’s work, even citing him as a major influence on his approach to electronic music composition. The essential structure of the Late Junction collaboration was that the artists would work together to create around twenty minutes of music. They began passing music back and forth, some that Kalma had started, and some that Honer & Chiu had started, with each adding to or editing the track before returning it to the other. The music would only go back and forth a few times before being finalized. After meeting their twenty minute goal for the program Kalma, Chiu and Honer agreed that they would continue to work together to try to push the music further. The freshly minted trio felt like there was much more to be said and more work to be done. The Late Junction program was broadcast in September of 2022. Simultaneously, Kalma, Chiu and Honer began expanding upon the music they had started for the purpose of the broadcast, working diligently on the music for several months. Their collective approach to this work was born in improvisation and realized via collage-based editing. The end result brings several distinct musical moments — recorded sometimes decades apart — into conversation with one another, forming new narratives from building blocks of old ones. There are snippets of improvised playing from each musician, edited together with recordings that Kalma had made in the 70s at GRM, and even moments of audio notes — like Kalma explaining his ideas — that would make it into the final mixes. SHOTMAKER was formed in 1993 by three friends from the small towns of Tweed and Belleville in Ontario, Canada: Matt Deline (drums, vocals), Tim McKeough (guitar, vocals), and Nick Pye (bass, vocals). The band relocated to Ottawa in 1994 before ending its run in 1996. The band is widely recognized for influencing the direction of emo and post-hardcore music.

During their relatively short time together SHOTMAKER harnessed the collective creativity of the Canadian DIY community to make something special happen. The band thrived on playing live shows and shared the stage with bands like Policy of 3, Los Crudos, Unwound, Rorschach, Cap’n Jazz, Indian Summer, Rye Coalition, Modest Mouse, Propagandhi, Hoover, Clikatat Ikatowi, Blonde Redhead, and Fugazi.

Memory Minus Plus Minus is a 14 track collection. Numerous songs have been remixed by J. Robbins at Magpie Cage Studio for improved quality and everything has been remastered by TJ Lipple. Vinyl comes in a gatefold jacket and includes a booklet with extensive liner notes and full show “gigography ” documenting their shows from 1995-2018.

Adam Rudolph — Invisible Threads Over the course of more than half a century, the visionary percussionist and composer Adam Rudolph has been a pioneer in weaving together inspirations and collaborators across cultures, traditions, backgrounds and styles. Long-standing collaborations with the three major figures of spiritual jazz, Don Cherry, Yusef Lateef, and Pharoah Sanders, helped shape Rudolph’s expansive musical philosophy, one rooted in improvisation, deep listening, and cultural exchange. As ever in Rudolph’s non-idiomatic vision, Invisible Threads is no mere fusion of musical traditions; instead, it is a journey of discovery shared and shaped by the merging of profoundly individual voices. At the center of Invisible Threads is a constantly evolving sonic landscape shaped by Rudolph’s live electronic processing, the manipulations of Danish bassist and sound artist Jesper Pedersen, and the circuit-bending guitar work of Marco Cappelli, a classically trained Italian musician out of New York’s avantgarde scene. The rest of the ensemble is from Türkiye where the album was recorded. Okay Temiz, the legendary percussionist, brings a playful inventiveness through bells, toys, found objects, and handcrafted instruments. Hacı Tekbilek is one of the most celebrated Sufi ney players globally and his playing combines technical mastery with a profound sense of spirituality, drawing long, breath-filled tones and intricate melodic ornamentation. Özlem Kaya’s violin, Sıla Gerbağ’s flute, and Sumru Ağıryürüyen’s voice bring warmth, nuance, and expressive depth to the music. Their contributions move between melody, improvisation, and texture, creating an organic counterpoint to the albums rhythmic complexity and electronic soundscapes. Describing himself as "50% musician and 50% listener," Catto approaches each session as a collaborator rather than a conventional producer. That philosophy has made Quatermass Sound Lab a creative home for an extraordinary range of musicians, from established innovators to emerging voices. Hogar is the new album from El Búho, the project of British-born producer Robin Perkins. Known for his fusion of Latin American folk, organic electronica, dub, field recordings and natural sound, El Búho’s new album explores these influences through the lens of home. While Hogar translates to home in Spanish, it is a word that goes beyond a physical place. Rooted in the Latin word focāris, meaning hearth or fire, hogar evokes family, belonging, shelter, intimacy and the sense of feeling safe somewhere in the world. The album is built around a series of found sounds, recordings of Robin’s home life, recordings on the road, of islands, of meetings with friends over food and tea. Underpinning each track is a texture that grounds it in a place or a memory. First single Kairos puts powerful percussion next to floating flute line, a song inspired by being made to feel at home by strangers. On countrymusic meets folktronica hit Nuevos Horizontes Colombian singer Ana María Vahos tells the story of returning to the mountains where she grew up and the diversity of what it means to call a place home. Adios features samples of Ecuadorian group Humazapas alongside quechua rapper Mafiandina telling the story of the interconnectedness of the environment, politics and migration. The final track of the album, the beautiful, dusty electronica of Que El Viento Lleve Mi Dolour centres around grief, loss and memory. The album sees El Búho working with collaborators from across the continent and beyond, such as Plu Con Pla from the Pacific coast of Colombia, Chuskupura from the mountains of Ecuador and a recording of the legendary Mexican poet Pita Amor.

Quentin is a career spanning collection of the prison songs recorded by and largely rockabilly cult hero Bobby Wayne. Born Robert Wayne Snyder in Spokane, Washingcredited with exposing the Northwest to rockabilly with a bass-baritone voice often Johnny Cash.

It's hard to say what held Bobby back from being a massive star, but his name might have had something to do with it. Throughout his career, he wasnʼt the only Bobby Wayne on a stage or the radio. Others with the same name were also trying to hit it big. He's oddly not even the only Bobby Wayne in the rockabilly world. Crown Records, known for such cash grabs as "Tino La Tino" and "Al Herbert" (not to be confused with Herb Alpert) had their own rockabilly Bobby Wayne. We suspect it was a moniker as real as Jerry Kole (not to be confused with Jerry Cole). They even went as far as to release a Bobby Wayne tribute to Johnny Cash. Their Bobby Wayne was oddly the same person on the cover of their Don Lee albums, and that was the spittinʼ image of Gordon Calcote too. Almost as if he was just some hunky blonde to put on the cover. He was just fifteen when he first wrapped his hands around a guitar neck and let the strings talk back. Sixteen when he formed the Rocky Mountain Playboys, and a shy seventeen years old when LA clubs told him to pack it up and go back home. He rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest label heads, producers, and country musicians of the 20th century. Through all his small lucky breaks, lightning just never struck hard enough. He never forgot that spark. Rockabilly was a meteor across midnight, jolting his nervous system with a shot full of electric rock ʻnʼ roll still captured on reel-to-reel tape. Railcard formed in 2025 when Rachel Love (Dolly Mixture), Ian Button and Peter Momtchiloff (Heavenly) met at a gig, realized that they were the same age, and decided that this was an excellent reason to form a band. The shared history, the same pop references, the parallel lives… Railcard had to happen. The band made their live debut in December 2025 and had by then recruited their fourth member, Allison Thomson (Trash Can Sinatras, The Love Band), whose flawless trumpet and swirly keyboard-playing complete the Railcard sound. Two Steps At A Time - the album title and theme song - express exactly how quickly Railcard have worked since then - jumping over pavement cracks and whistling past graveyards to get these songs written, recorded and released while they are still sweet and fresh.
