This Issue: Brainfeeder

When and where did the label begin?
Steve Ellison (Flying Lotus) started as an intern at iconic LA hip hop label Stones Throw. He had been making music & beats for years and submitted some tracks to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim music contest in 2006 and was one of the winning selections, which launched his career as a producer/artist/composer and eventually filmmaker.
Brainfeeder was founded by FlyLo in 2008 in Los Angeles, at a time when LA’s underground beat community was exploding. The label grew directly out of the city’s experimental electronic and hip-hop movement.
The relationship between Brainfeeder and Los Angeles is deeply symbiotic. Brainfeeder isn’t just based in LA; it’s a direct sonic reflection of the city’s creative DNA, but has expanded globally from its influence to its artist roster.
Is there a genre that you would consider to be the label’s “signature style,” or is it a mix?
Brainfeeder definitely has a ‘sound’, but that includes experimental electronic music, jazz, hip hop, ambient and many other styles and influences.
What is the meaning behind the name for the label?
In 2007, Brainfeeder debuted as the name of a multi-hour radio broadcast from Flying Lotus and his friends on LA-based internet radio station Dublab It is also the name of the first track on Flying Lotus’ album “Los Angeles.”
How has the label changed since it started?
In many ways the label is very similar to the way it started, as it’s still run by Steve and his good friends Paul Preston and Adam Stover who have been a part of the label almost since the beginning, as well as his long-time manager Dominic Smith. Joining up with Ninja Tune for global label services has added a lot of great resources and allowed the label to expand in to new territories and reach new heights of success, but the main ethos of finding and nurturing some of the best young talent and keeping extremely true to the artist’s core beliefs is the same as it’s ever been.
How would you describe your overall ambitions and goals as a label from when you first started compared to now?
The goal of finding & exposing these incredible artists to an audience that truly cares about culture and great art is always the ambition. Sales success, multiple grammys and a long-lasting cultural impact are all byproducts of the original ambition that never waivers.
How would you describe the average fan of the label?
Brainfeeder fans respect artists who take risks. They are curious, creative, introspective listeners who explore all forms of discovery and art and are very likely creators in their own right.
How do you feel about the rising costs of vinyl records? And what about the continued popularity of the CD format?
Everything Brainfeeder does has a sense of quality to it, from the audio recordings to the visual representation of the projects, but it should not feel expensive or ‘high art’ and cost is definitely a factor with the fanbase, so as a label Brainfeeder tries to keep costs in mind at every turn. As for the listening formats, the medium can be anything, as long as there is intention behind the creation by the artist and the listening experience by the fan.
What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now?
Obviously algorithms and streaming has had a massive impact on the way music is discovered and consumed, but the power of curation never changes. From independent record store staff to social media creators, having a voracious appetite for art, great taste and the ability to curate and share with other humans will always be hugely important to the continued growth and success of Brainfeeder and other independent labels and artists.

Los Retros – Odisea
Stones Throw Records | STH2522 3 April 2026 2LP | 23 April 2026

Odisea is the highly anticipated debut album from Los Retros. Emulating the iconic City Pop sound of the 1980s, it is a more articulate musical endeavor from the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
Los Retros first captured hearts with the lo-fi magic of “Someone To Spend Time With”, recorded at the age of 17 using little more than a four-track in his parents’ living room. Now 25, the Oxnard, California native has stepped into an entirely new season of life.
Through it all, he’s kept the same DIY spirit, still writing and recording every note himself, only now in a home studio of his own.
Los Retros has drawn praise from The Los Angeles Times, FADER, Dazed, and Remezcla, who described him as “one of the most exciting artists making indie today”.
His music has garnered over 450M streams across DPSs and his videos have over 100M views on YouTube.
Los Retros will be performing at Coachella in 2026.

Los Retros – Early Days (2016-2019)
Stones Throw Records | STH2521
3 April 2026 LP | 23 April 2026 CD | Indie, Lo-Fi

Early Days (2016-2019) is a new collection of previously unreleased songs from Mauri Tapia a.k.a Los Retros.
From a young age, Tapia has been a prolific songwriter, spending his teenage years writing and recording song after song.
Influenced by soft rock and left-field South American pop, Early Days (2016-2019) captures the sound of this formative era.
First time “Someone to Spend Time With” is available on vinyl –a viral hit that has since been certified Gold in the US. The viral single and subsequent EPs Retrospect and Looking Back introduced millions to Los Retros’ dreamy, lo-fi sound with a huge amount of music from that formative era remaining unheard until now.
His music has garnered over 450M streams across DPSs and his videos have over 100M views on YouTube. Los Retros will be performing at Coachella in April 2026.

OOIOO and Lightning Bolt are both bands whose music is wholly unique and whose creators’ influence would be impossible to overstate. YoshimiO, OOIOO’s founder and bandleader, has been a guiding force in uncompromising art across the continuum of rock and improvised music for four decades, from her work in UFO or Die to The Boredoms to SAICOBAB and beyond. OOIOO serves as a core outlet for melding freeform experimentalism with hypnotic rock pulses, defying boundaries with her acrobatic voice, electronics, trumpet and gamelan. Lightning Bolt’s Brian Chippendale and Brian Gibson have remained unparalleled in their ability to transmute frenetic whirls of percussion, gargantuan fuzz and dizzying melody into monolithic vistas. THE HORIZON SPIRALS / THE HORIZON VIRAL is a split that captures the parallels in ethos between these two ensembles, their sense of gleeful abandon and freight train momentum, in inspiring detail.
THE HORIZON SPIRALS, composed of OOIOO’s gamelan-infused sagas “THE HORIZON” and “Gamel BE SURE TO SPIRAL” demonstrates the boundless scope of OOIOO’s music. YoshimiO explains a core contrast between these pieces and 2014’s Gamel lays in the physical materials used: “Back then in Bali, bronze-keyed gamelan were mainstream, and GAMEL uses bronze. THE HORIZON SPIRALS’ gamelan is iron. Black-painted iron. This time, incorporating Koheysai’s iron sound (iron gamelan) allowed us to see OOIOO’s songs spiraling upward with greater lightness. The iron gamelan infiltrated OOIOO’s sparkling elements, grounding that sound within the audible range as a new wave sound. It also blends exceptionally well with Mishina’s cymbals.” Opener “THE HORIZON” draws inspiration from Sun Ra Arkestra’s Horizon, bursting from oscillations into a syncopated groove before stretching out into up- tempo hypnotisms lead by YoshimiO’s trumpet. “Gamel BE SURE TO SPIRAL” warps the OOIOO classic “Be Sure To Loop” through the lens of gamelan, emphasizing the power of repetition and incremental change. “We humans each possess a nature to repeat, yet with each repetition we grow more attuned,” says YoshimiO. “We don’t repeat in the same place; that repetition spirals upward, never landing in the same spot twice. We realize there is no stagnation on that path.”
Lightning Bolt’s THE HORIZON VIRAL evokes the limitlessness of their improvisations and distills through more sophisticated home recording techniques. THE HORIZON VIRAL reignites the flame of their storied home recordings, capturing the duo in full freeform, bolstered from bassist Brian Gibson’s experiences composing and recording soundtracks for video games he co-designed, Thrasher and Thumper. The five pieces that make up their side were arranged as a single suite, meant to be played all together, with movements like “WAVERS” and “CLOUD CORE” showcasing how relentless the duo’s energy remains. Throughout, Gibson’s ability to conjure riffs that feel timeless is as potent as drummer Brian Chippendale’s ability to propel them until their instruments become inextricably enmeshed. Chippendale explains their approach to their side: “OOIOO set the tone with THE HORIZON SPIRAL but we didn’t really roll with the spiral theme. We’re more Viral than Spiral though they both can dump you in a rabbit hole and we definitely like rabbit holes. The songs get to build a bit of conceptual depth through their titles, most of which are references to the work of others we know or admire, like Clown Core, YoshimiO’s band Boredoms, or Deerhoof, who have always been a friend-band to us.” THE HORIZON SPIRALS / THE HORIZON VIRAL is a celebration of indomitable creativity. In their endless pursuit of crafting pure, uninhibited, enchanting art, OOIOO and Lightning Bolt continue to make astonishingly powerful, invigorating music.

THRILL JOCKEY

The North Carolina trio Setting brings together their substantial collective skills as musicians and their collaborative mindset to bear in their inventive and rich improvisations. Known for work in Mind Over Mirrors, Califone, Black Twig Pickers, Pelt, Peeesseye, Sylvan Esso, and Jake Xerxes Fussell, multi-instrumentalists Jaime Fennelly, Nathan Bowles and Joe Westerlund subvert expectations while creating a sense of wonderment. Their intricate interplay of synthesizers, cassette loops, banjo, keyboards, electronics, zithers, and a litany of percussive instruments form a tactile amalgam of celestial transcendence and terrestrial rhythm, a loamy pulse fluidly guiding every minute fluctuation in feel. Setting’s self-titled album is a definitive statement of their improvisational acumen meeting compositional rigor, a robust wellspring of hypnagogic grooves and mosaiced textures.
Setting harnesses the euphoria of communal creation. “This is one of the most joyous albums I’ve made with other musicians. It felt like we were all in the slipstream,” notes Fennelly. Bowles adds: “Making this is maybe the easiest thing in my life; it’s not struggle music. This collaboration feels like it’s just coming out of the air, like it’s breathing.”
Fennelly’s synth programming acts as a guiding light, bending pieces into dynamic arcs and imbuing them with swirling hues, while rhythmic push-and-pull between Westerlund and Bowles lends an elasticity to each track’s warp and weft. Their working methods have found a kindred traveler in Adam McDaniel from Asheville’s Drop of Sun Studios, whose engineering and production work forms an indispensable piece of the album’s dynamism and luminescent fidelity. Across the five pieces, the trio make deft use of their seemingly infinite palettes to mold landscapes that appear familiar at first glance before glowing with vibrant new colors as the whole picture sets in.
The eponymous album from Setting is the product of three intuitive players and deep listeners, artists who use those skills to create transformative music. The trio shirk any broader categorizations, as their unique dynamic pieces are alight with arrangements urgent and smoldering, patient and emotive.

Every universe begins with a singular point, a quiet corner where instinct speaks loudest, where existential imagination can stretch its limbs. For acclaimed harpist and songwriter Mikaela Davis’ new album, Graceland Way (due April 24 via Kill Rock Stars), that singularity was a hillside home in Chevy Chase Canyon, a spot nestled in Los Angeles County where time slowed, the world fell away, and Davis could create from a sense of warmth and deep attentiveness. The “canyon country” epic born of that care ties a neo-western future back to the lineage of Laurel Canyon, the mythos of Elvis’s Graceland, and Paul Simon’s restless reinvention—a place where Davis can explore the fragile balance of light and dark, grace and struggle, rose and thorn, as well as the mystical power found at their nexus.
The record’s musical big bang originated at the nexus of UHF Studio, where Davis and noted guitarist John Lee Shannon, co-wrote the record and co-produced alongside longtime collaborator Dan Horne. As the album’s story of an unnamed antihero navigating life in a failing world, her harp, his guitar, and their joint melodies weave a mystic depth. That’s immediately evident from the opening track “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses”, a harp glissando burst functioning like a blissful wormhole to a new universe where dark Western tones come aided by Kurt G. Johnson’s pedal steel guitar and transformative harmonies from guest vocalists Madison Cunningham and Tim Heidecker. But even in this pained origin story, Davis’ glittering, opalescent voice and evocative harp find a depth of beauty.

The Reds, Pinks and Purples – Acknowledge Kindness
Acknowledge Kindness expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ distinctive brand of emotional pop, music built for the quiet hours and the restless mind. Evolving naturally from the heavier, melancholic indie rock of previous releases, the mood here feels more exposed and reflective, blossoming into lush dreamscapes that recall the bittersweet sorrow of The Cure or the tenderly gloomy transcendence of California by American Music Club.
Created from a new headspace, the album finds Glenn Donaldson observing both the present and the weight of what came before it. Songs lean into a deeper sense of nostalgia, allowing him to look back with intent and revisit moments that once carried a sting
Donaldson comments: “This album is probably about learning to live with your ghosts and trying to be alive in the present. There’s a certain kind of big sounding record I aspire to make, like California by American Music Club or 16Lover's Lane by The Go-Betweens, works that steer into the pain but become a transportational device for the listener.”
Donaldson’s vocals are captured in high fidelity, raw and immediate, with lyrical abstraction underpinned by chiming acoustic guitars and achingly beautiful piano.
‘New Leaf’ teases with a perpetual guitar line plucking at the heartstrings while a sub-melody cushions Donaldson’s musings. ‘Heaven of Love’ tackles cynicism with positive energy as it tumbles into a glorious chorus, while the guitars on ‘Worthy of Love’ chime dutifully as it dispels heavy memories and heads for a better place. Two plush instrumentals, the winsome ‘Blue Heron Lake’ and the symphonic title track, sound like Eno post Roxy pre ambient or Felt without words.
Having written more than 200 songs and released nine albums in just six years, Glenn Donaldson has shaped a distinctive songwriting world rooted in emotional clarity and romanticised wonder.
Across its 11 tracks, Acknowledge Kindness expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ emotional and sonic panorama, with Donaldson’s ongoing worldbuilding remaining both warmly nostalgic and strikingly original.

Earth x Black Noi$e - Geometry of Murder: Extra Capsular Extraction Inversions
New “Inversions” of drone rock pioneers Earth’s debut release. A collaboration between Dylan Carlson and Black Noi$e (Armand Hammer, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt) formed in mutual respect and appreciation for one another. Both artists were intrigued by the creation of vast musical landscapes and the connection of music, with its ability to transport the listener. The music of Earth was recognised and celebrated for moving at a glacial pace and yet this new collaboration surprisingly saw Black Noi$e slowing things down even further.

SIDE D

D2 - Dissolution I (Black Noi$e Inversion)
The debut, which originally came out in 1991, notably featured Kelly Canary and Kurt Cobain on vocals on the tracks “A Bureaucratic Desire for Revenge Part 2” and “Divine and Bright”. Black Noi$e reimagines the original recordings with his experimental sensibility and innovative multi-instrumental, cross genre exploration. Applying contemporary electronics to the heavy droning bass and guitars and languid rhythms, this inversion oscillates and reverberates with a different kind of energy whilst simultaneously highlighting the much loved low slow and distorted properties of the original.
‘Extra Capsular Extraction’ was the first music Dylan made with Earth and his first time in a recording studio, which he recalls at the time as being “terribly exciting”. It also marked the first time collaborating with others and seeing it reified into a tangible object or product, a spirit that Dylan has carried through to the present. The original album is a document of a specific period and Dylan’s creative development. These inversions of Extra Capsular Extraction are, to quote Dylan, “an exciting way to reintegrate them into the present time and with my more expanded conceptions of musical endeavours”.

Pictish Trail – Life Slime
“A favourite artist of ours” – Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music
“Certifiably musically mad, and we love him for it.” - Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland
Life Slime is the sixth full-length album by Pictish Trail (AKA Johnny Lynch) a strange, tender, psychedelic electro-pop record shaped by transformation, exhaustion, hope, guilt, and renewal. Written at home on the Isle of Eigg and recorded at Mike Lindsay’s studio down in Margate (Tunng / LUMP), the album follows 2022’s critically acclaimed Island Family, further refining Lynch’s world of lo-fi electronics, warped pop melodies, baggy psych rhythms and emotionally direct songwriting. It’s a record that balances woozy synth-pop, motorik propulsion and intimate acoustic songwriting, all infused with the emotional messiness that gives the album its title.
Across the album’s singles the guilt-stained psych-pop ballad ‘Hold It’, the lifeaffirming shimmer of ‘Infinity Ooze’, the late-night confession of ‘Torch Song’, the expansive eight-minute centrepiece ‘Another Way’, and the cinematic closer ‘Werewolf Ending’ Life Slime charts a journey from emotional fracture to uneasy release. ‘Sorry Eyes’ brings a punchy electro-pop strut with a sharp emotional edge, ‘Crystal Cave’ drifts through crystalline guitars and shoegaze haze into transformation, and the title track ‘Life Slime’ moves with a slow, weary swagger toward bittersweet acceptance. Together, these tracks form a cohesive album statement about surrender, resistance, change and renewal.

Like a lightning strike that travels through time is there a word for that? White Fence are all of a sudden cracking in the hear-view mirror again. Orange hits like, visceral. White hot and cold, a zombie Rhinestone Dwight Twilley Cowboy but with each Rickenbackin’ chime, the ticking of the clock jingle-jangles White Fence in fresh time. Ruthless!
Guitars sound and like a shower spray forth. Resolutely picked. Cold and soothing. Shellodic (the melody in a shell, duh!). Swivelin’ thru the jagged, jittery pop sounds of the 60s-00000s, the sharped focus of Orange’s rock sonics gives Tim Presley exactly what he needed the most: open space to sing into, and songs to sing. The rest is White Fence magik at its most dark, as Tim's restless free-allusivation trippifyingly transforms the cramped confines of heart wracked self-excoriation right before our eyes and ears! In pop songs.
On (the mixing) board with White Fence/ on the (drum) kit with Tim is Ty Segall (also producer of For the Recently Found Innocent, the last solo White Fence album) Engineering tactics fully hand-in-glove with the White Fence intent, they produce a clean and uncrowded space to mount up all the rock ‘n balladry, their clean lines surrounded by an emphatic/unalterable (minimalist) frame. These are hits! All of ‘em gleaming with clean electricity, and white (sometimes black-and-blue-eyed) soul. Hard water and power held in stylish reserve: “Your Eyes,” “Given Up My Heart,” “Unread Books,” “Evaporating Love” number among the many highlights.
Tim’s lyric sets and chord progressions, with their perspectives, time codes and smash cuts, give up eleven fleeting glimpses from the other side of the ' Fence, each outfitted as foot-forward pop tunes for maximum rock ‘n roll. On the “title” tune, “I Came Close, Orange For Luck,” the lyrics’ dire implication, blurred sumptuously by Tim’s eerie falsetto, twist strands of dread into the sunshiny college rock, sharing sum space with old schoolboys, The Smiths, while straying, an outcast of its own kind. Or the Lennon vibes of "Unread Books," operating through carefully twisted Presley wires. Production polarities on point! Playing with genre throughout the album like a space-age Kinks, Tim’s natty wordplay splatters against the songs' rock-solid edifice, spilling an infinitum of cracked, shaggy realities, billowing, mirrored, sharded. When it all moves, you move, and that’s fun, so long as you savor the deep impact of a couplet from “I Wanted a Rolex”:
“It’s the ocean sized desire/Impossible to satisfy."
Tim offers this post-op 'as-per' for Orange:
“Love/loss, addiction/rehabilitation, and a good long look in the mirror (by way of a shop window reflection in San Francisco). But also the absurdity of life..... I wanted to sing my little heart out. Sing life”
Orange is an unstill life; a bowlful of Tim’s latest conceptions for guitar band, grown larger through thoughts, feelings, SONGS and some keys and synth from Alice Sandhal (+ 2 drum cameos from the ever-righteous Dylan Hadley!). A trance-like chronology of consciousness, captured in opalescent diamond tightness and ice fidelity at Ty ’s Harmonizer II studio. It’s a KILLER. White Fence is Orange on time this time!

CLIFF MURPHY BAY STATE LULLABY

New England has a sound all its own, shaped by woods, rivers, mountains, and tight-knit cities. You can hear it in the accent, but you can also hear it in the music. That sense of place runs through Bay State Lullaby, the lone solo album by Cliff Murphy, founding member of the New Hampshire based band Say ZuZu The record will be reissued on April 24, 2026 by Strolling Bones on vinyl and CD, with the CD edition featuring three previously unreleased bonus tracks
Rooted in folk, country, and Americana, the album captures a moment of deep personal transition. Written as Murphy fell in love, left New Hampshire, and shifted from full-time musician to academic, the songs reflect change, loss, growth, and hard-earned wisdom Recorded in Somerville and Cambridge, MA with a close circle of collaborators and mixed by his Say ZuZu bandmate Jon Nolan, the album was quietly released in 2008 and never received its deserved recognition, until now.
Now presented in its definitive form, Bay State Lullaby still resonates as an honest portrait of who Murphy was and who he was becoming. From the reflective “Happy & Confused” to the place-loving title track, the record embraces uncertainty while finding grounding in love, friendship, and acceptance, proof that some stories only grow richer with time.

Population II
GIMMICKS / SERPENT ÉCHELLE
After releasing their third album Maintenant Jamais, and touring in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2025, Population II now announces Gimmicks, a new synthedelic rock EPdue on Bonsound April 3 rd (digital).
Blending vocal and instrumental tracks, Gimmicks is a companion piece to the Montreal band's latest full-length It's an extension of the electronic sounds we explored on Maintenant Jamais, with tracks like 13 1 3 1 and Poudreuse Blues explains Pierre-Luc Gratton Even though we added upright piano and fuzz bass to some of the songs our number one rule for this project was: keyboards and synthesizers, first and foremost! This is why they decided to ditch the guitar completely on these new songs, once again demonstrating the extent of theirversatility.
HIGHLIGHTS
Rhythm-wise, the use of a drum machine allowed the musicians to push their own boundaries and take this exercise in style to a higher level. It made us rethink our rhythmic habits and add bursts of intensity by experimenting with timbres and sound dynamics The result is an EP at times unsettling, at times dreamy, but perfectly calibrated where constraint gives way to ingenuity, freedom, and friendship.Although prog and krautrock fans wil recognize the influence of Syrinx Tangerine Dream, and Cluster, Gimmicks is above all the affirmation of a band capable of looking back to move forward.

-Pitchfork
"Population II? That's a motherfuckin' power trio. The Montrea -based band is psych at their core [...]"
-CREEM

“A cerebral blast of experimental rock that explores prog, psych, Krautrock, punk, and art-rock styles with groovy intensity and explosive creativity.”
-KEXP

Leather-jacket krautrock? Indeed. Welcome to the world of Carrboro NC's Object Hours. These generous saviors come in the form of three Triangle scene lifers (Harrison Haynes of Hellbender / Les Savy Fav, Nora Rogers of Solar Halos and Jenny Waters of Work Clothes) who all worship the riff *but* imagine what happens if the riff fell into the middle of your favorite CAN LP. Yes, these are strong words but they live up to the hype.
Solved By Walking is the band’s second album and first to see wide distribution. While it was recorded in the winter of 2025 at Betty's in the Chapel Hill woods, these are mighty rock slabs that are equipped and ready for all seasons. Rock believers have felt the ripples floating around in the aether and have known that this day was coming. Three Lobed Recordings is overjoyed to be able to provide this public service.
These are songs that groove, peel paint, sandblast, inspire unconscious movement, make your head bob - frequently all at the same time. These are the jams made for remembering that time that you heard Fun House coming out of that dude's car with the windows down in the middle of the summer, for thinking about the kids who own 3 copies of Daydream Nation, a beacon to everyone who listens to the last 1:30 of Wire's "Too Late" over and over. This is the band that has a timer on stage so they don't keep each song playing for days on end, the band whose Bandcamp bio succinctly summarizes their approach thusly: "We try to keep songs under 25 minutes for your sake." They know they are tapping into the beyond and they want to make sure everyone who hears what they are channeling is ready. Not only should every word here be inspiration for you to *want* and *need* to hear this record, but you should understand that every word here is true.
Object Hours shows are transporting and mesmerizing. They are a band that has fit right in on stage alongside acts as varied as Kim Gordon and Tropical Fuck Storm, bringing the house down in these and all similar moments.
Real heads know and the rest of the heads are getting ready to find out. Get ready for Object Hours' Solved By Walking. We suggest going ahead and buying two copies because you are going to wear your first one out.

OVERVIEW
Seefeel return with their first full-length album in fifteen years – a beautiful, hazy and blissed out collection of fractured melodies and vaporous textures.
In some ways, this can be regarded as Seefeel’s ‘dub’ album – the deceptively cloud-like arrangements of Mark Clifford are somewhat ambient adjacent at low volume, but blasting out of a proper sound system, the cavernous bass undertow and skilful employment of effects are more apparent, messing with the listener’s perception of time and audio placement. As always with Seefeel though, it never drifts too far into cold experimentalism or synthetic texture, the heavily manipulated vocals of Sarah Peacock lending the tracks a vital human element, with processed guitar loops allowing slivers of melody to drift through the trails of delay.
The longtime perception of the band as sitting at the overlap point between electronic music and experimental guitar music meant that they were often overlooked during their original lifespan, not making music that was instantly recognisable to either scene. Over the years though, this blurring of genre lines increasingly looks prescient of where music was headed, steadily building a catalogue of music that hasn’t aged in quite the same way as some of their contemporaries. Their influence has been cited by a new generation of artists such as Maria Somerville and Yu Su, and they return in 2026 with Sol.Hz, a collection of new tracks that further reinforce the idea that Seefeel’s time has finally come.

JAZZ, BIGUINE, SOUL, CARIBBEAN MARTINIQUE
A seminal piece in the jigsaw puzzle of Caribbean music Recorded in Martinique in 1980, Roland Brival’s visionary fusion of spiritual Caribbean jazz, poetry and Creole consciousness flows through Rhodes, saxophone and traditional percussion.
OVERVIEW:
Musician, poet and painter Roland Brival’s 1980 album is a lost classic of Caribbean spiritual jazz.
Recorded with a group of Martinique’s top musicians, and combining the bèlè percussion traditions of the island with free flowing saxophone, rhodes flourishes and languorous bass, the album was rejected by Roland’s label of the time, and was ultimately self released in miniscule quantities to a small local audience Themes of créole identity and colonial injustice combined with universal ideas of love and longing sung in Créole, English and French sound like an Antillean answer to Gary Bartz and Jon Lucien, underpinned with the insistent rhythms of the ti bois percussion. Long unheralded in the English-speaking world, Créole Gypsy is a key piece of the jigsaw of Caribbean music

20th Anniversary Devil Vs. Angel Red with White Swirl Vinyl Edition
STREET DATE: MAY 1, 2026

2006’s The Devil Wears Prada remains one of the funniest and smartest comedies of this millennium. And the studio that made it, 20th Century Fox, knew it all along—they actually bought the film rights to Lauren Weisberger’s novel before it was even published! Similarly, the soundtrack took the same, limitless expense account approach…what do you suppose they shelled out for the rights to Madonna’s “Vogue,” U2’s “City of Blinding Lights,” and Alanis Morisette’s “Crazy?” The rest of the soundtrack is top shelf, or should we say haute couture, too, featuring indierock stalwarts Moby and Ray LaMontagne, funk/acid jazz legends Jamiroquai, and more dance-pop of the sort you’d be likely to hear while watching beautiful people slink down a catwalk. Now, for its 20th anniversary, and on the occasion—and exact street date—of the long-awaited sequel hitting the theaters, our LP release comes all dressed up with a blood-red stiletto heel cover and a full-color inner sleeve housing a “devil vs. angel” red with white swirl vinyl pressing!

EMILY NENNI • MOVIN’ SHOES

Whenever Emily Nenni is onstage, she welcomes everybody to the dancefloor. The California-born, Nashville-based singersongwriter wants the honkytonk to be a place of escape, where fans can shed their troubles for a few hours and feel safe and free. “I’m always watching the dancefloor and making sure everybody’s being respectful.” Or, as she sings on the supremely funky title track to her new album Movin’ Shoes, “Here’s where you dress for you and dance the way that you want to.”
Movin’ Shoes is an album about how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves. Confident in its touchstones and compassionate in its insights, Movin’ Shoes eloquently and wryly blends southern soul from Memphis and Muscle Shoals with southern rock from Macon and outlaw country from Austin. Making Movin’ Shoes was a process of discovery for Nenni. Musically she found all new ways to combine the disparate artists she loves so much, and lyrically she found all new ways to relate to herself and to others. “We should at all times acknowledge and accept the fact that we’re imperfect people,” she explains. “We all make mistakes and we should all rethink the way we go about things. I am flawed. Everyone around me is flawed. But that’s not a bad thing. It just means we’re all human. This album is about making mistakes and learning from them. I’m always trying to put that into my songs.”

: Sofia Kourtesis
For Sofia Kourtesis, joy is a living practice. It's evident in her effervescent stage presence and bombastic sets, which confidently traverse through house, electro-pop and melodic techno The Peruvian DJ and producer has forged a vibrant and illustrious career that has taken her to all corners of the globe
Kourtesis's debut DJ-Kicks mix is a potent blend of the beautiful, complex emotional soup that has made her connect so deeply with her fans. But during the compiling process, Kourtesis grappled with one of the most difficult emotions she's ever had to endure: unbearable grief "Losing my mother, my idol, knocked the wind out of me. But as the seasons shifted, I found myself back in Peru. Being there made me feel close to her again, like she was in the air Slowly, music started to come back to me, not as noise, but as strength It felt like reconnecting with her spirit, honouring everything she gave me This chapter of my life has forever changed how I hear music. It's more fragile now, and in a strange way, it feels like a gift she left me; a reminder that even in loss, there's still beauty and connection "
The mix is a chameleonic voyage through the moods, sounds and emotions that made up her interior world during the compilation process. She flits through the electronic spectrum with ease, not only indulging the needs of the dance floor but the quiet moments of introspection, too "DJ-Kicks is a series that shaped how I think about DJing and listening I played the DJ Koze mix an unhealthy number of times, to the point where it basically lives in my DNA now," she smiles. "Those mixes taught me that the best ones aren't about showing off; they're about taking people on a journey They move, twist and surprise you They give you goosebumps when you least expect it." l vision
If Kourtesis mother's memory is a gift that has the power to comfort and heal, then this DJ-Kicks entry is Kourtesis sharing it and paying it forward; a heartfelt offering of love, movement and eternal gratitude "This mix was about bringing together all the different sounds and emotions I carry with me The highs, the lows, the warmth, the weird little left turns. That's basically how my brain works when I'm behind the decks This is my way of letting those worlds collide, overlap and dance with each other," she says "That's exactly what I wanted to do here. I wanted emotion, tension, release I wanted this mix to feel alive "

Gondwana Records is pleased to announce ‘Interlude’, the second album from Estonian-born, London-based composer and pianist Hanakiv. Showcasing an expanded sound, the compositions trace a journey of overcoming the past, unfolding into a seductively unconventional style imbued with hope and a therapeutic quality.
Existing in a liminal space between genres, INTERLUDE , the second album from composer, pianist and now singer HANAKIV is as mysterious as it’s seductively unconventional, with piano, often prepared, only one of its elements, both analogue and electronic. First inspired by “those crystallised moments where time almost stands still, pain hasn’t yet fully set in, and happiness is still just a glimpse,” it provides, all the same, “a sense of hope that standing still is part of living.” In its making, HANAKIV has created a space that allows her to address feelings long buried, whether the grief behind the lead single ‘Sunbeams’, where staccato rhythms punctuate murmured vocals; the eerie apparitions obscuring the innocence of ‘Lastele’, originally intended as a lullaby for her nephews; or the poignant torpor behind ‘May Song’s brittle blur of harmony and percussive pizzicatos.
INTERLUDE’s range is further intimated by its contributors, including Portico Quartet’s Milo Fitzpatrick, who, as well as playing double bass throughout, co-wrote the refreshed long-term live favourite, ‘Intro’, and the eloquent closer, Stillness’. Also present are saxophonist Pille-Rite Rei, cellist Joanna Gutowska, violinist Gabriel Green, and PIKE on drums, helping capture the instances HANAKIV calls “inbetweens”. Among these are two sunny mornings, years apart, during which the strangely forlorn yet haunting ‘Hommikud’ coalesced.
Another significant turning point came with the writing of ‘Numb’. “Before then,” she confesses, “I was under the impression I was making music about stillness. This made me realise it was about numbness instead, and how easy it is to mix them up.” Listening to it, one gets a sense of what she means: though built around cascading piano lines, its tranquillity is undercut by unsettling swathes of cello strings, leaving the listener dazed. “I’d thought I was fine and functional,” she elaborates, “but I realised I wasn’t feeling. I wasn’t really living my life.”
Back then, having completed a master’s degree in Electroacoustic Composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, she’d left behind her familiar instrument for internships in Malmö and Reykyavik. After a while, albeit only appreciated in hindsight, it was as though a part of her had perished.
Finally able to play whenever she liked again, reignited her imagination, working on her own terms, all of it at home. “I could literally record at midnight,” she laughs. “There's a lot of felt on the piano due to neighbours and housemates, but I worked constantly, changing what I wanted. It was amazing, if I'm honest!”
This shift in emphasis empowered by the one instrument on which she could rely, lies at INTERLUDE’s heart. Nowhere is this illustrated more elegantly than in its final two pieces, which bring resolution and redemption in the insistent unfurling of ‘January Song’ and a crowning closure with ‘Stillness’.
Yet ultimately that’s exactly what HANAKIV does here, and in a world unlike any other. Unpredictable, unfathomable, candid and carefree, INTERLUDE embodies flaws embraced as well as senses regained. After all, pianos come with a key. “That’s why,” she concludes, “INTERLUDE has so much life. It's not only about numbness. It’s about what’s on the other side.”

Their debut album, OUTTANATIONAL, is a thrilling collection of party songs without limits: think William Onyeabor in outer-space or early Hot Chip making motorik afrobeat in a 70s New York loft. Building on a string of acclaimed EPs that have been playlisted on 6Music and led to coveted live slots at UK festivals like Glastonbury, Pigeon have evolved out of Afro-disco territory into something moodier. It’s an expansive record laced with heady krautrock, post-punk and punkfunk, indebted to the power of the groove and questing to find the meaning of home. Pigeon must fly.

AFTER ALL THE RAIN HAS GONE b/w GRIND ON
It is our distinct pleasure to present the debut single from Dove, on our newest imprint, DEENA. Dove is a force of nature! First heard by a national audience at just 17, her voice stood out not for trends or tricks, but for its command, range, and unmistakable soul. Deeply influenced by Tina Turner, she sings with grit, restraint and intention—rooted in the tradition of classic American R&B and pop. "After All The Rain Is Gone" is a heavy, mid-tempo track popping with Memphis-style horns, dripping with Southern Soul and Gospel fervor. A tale of struggle that promises a better tomorrow. "Grind On" is a '60s influenced stomper that is sure to turn heads in the UK and abroad. Thereʼs no chasing the moment here—only the steady arrival of an artist grounded in craft and conviction.
