Ian Thorpe is an Australian Swimming legend, having won 5 Olympic Gold Medals, the most by any Australian. In addition, in 2001 he became the first person to win 6 gold medals at a single World Aquatic Championships. In Beneath the Suit, a documentary biography he talks about goal setting and the importance it had in his successes. In week 2 of the PACE program we discussed how we as athletes set goals, and the key aspects being owning our goals and sharing them with our support network. - Nobody climbs a mountain on their won!

The Year 6 hockey team took on Faith Lutheran College on Saturday in perfect conditions. The game started at a frantic pace as midfielders Daniel Ng, Annabelle Marshall and Aarya Wijemanne grabbed the initiative as they dominated the midfield. Faith’s star player manned the defence and was in the thick of the action as Joshua Li and Ava McLeod pushed forward at every opportunity. Redeemer had the bulk of possession but found the Faith defence a tough nut to crack. James Song and Tanisha Bedi were virtual spectators as Faith were pinned back in the own half. Li was unlucky to have an effort cleared of the line as Redeemer went searching for the opening goal. As the end of the first third approached, Ng passed into the area and McLeod won the ball in the tackle and calmly placed it into the back of the net to give Redeemer a welldeserved lead. The second third saw Redeemer overwhelm their opponents with an all-action style that Faith couldn’t cope with. Will Serefini replaced Daniel Ng in midfield. His strong running created plenty of chances for the Redeemer attackers. Billy Wearne replaced Joshua Li and he was soon in the thick of the action. Ava McLeod was immense as she didn’t give the Faith defence a chance to settle. Her persistence paid off handsomely as she netted a quick fire hat-trick to give Redeemer a 4-0 lead. Billy Wearne netted his first as he latched onto a loose ball and fired past the last defender. Lilly Karppenin replaced Annabelle Marshall in midfield as Re-
deemer continued to pile on the pressure. Another surging run from Will Serefini allowed Ava Mcleod time and space in the goal area and she made no mistake to net her fifth. Billy Wearne added his second before the whistle to give Redeemer a 7-0 lead. The last third saw Faith move their star player into midfield to add more steel in their attack. Redeemer were up to the challenge as they repelled the opposition raids from midfield. Joshua Li and Annabelle Marshall were rotated into defence and they were resolute in breaking up Faith’s attacks. Lilly Karppinen replaced Ava McLeod, joining Daniel Ng and Billy Wearne in attack. Aarya Wijemanne, Tanisha Bedi, Will Serefini and James Song were relentless as they set about creating attacking opportunities. Lilly Karppinen was unlucky as her turn and shot missed to the right of the goal post. With the game well and truly won, Redeemer didn’t take their foot of the pedal as they went for the jugular. Daniel Ng was a constant threat in attack and his mazy runs caused panic in the Faith defence. Lilly Karppinen benefitted as she bagged her first goal with an excellent finish. With a renewed sense of confidence, Lilly Karppinen showed determination and focus as she plundered four more goals to end the game with five goals. As the final whistle approached, Faith mounted one final attack and were duly rewarded with a goal. The final score was 12-1 to Redeemer. Thank you to all the supporters who cheered on the team.
