Interview with a JTAS Captain Jasmin Wu – Hockey Captain What does it mean to be captain? I have the responsibility of all the players on the team. I like to be able to help and encourage people.
What is your favourite thing about Hockey? It’s a team sport and I love the game and it’s really exciting because there is a lot of running around, and I really like playing it and encouraging people. As captain how do you want to make people feel? I want to make them feel pumped and excited to play, I also want them to appreciate that we have the opportunity to play. I think the teachers are all really good coaches and I hope all the players are happy to play. Have you got any goals for the season? I would like to win a few games! I don’t mind if we lose but we must go down trying, enjoying Hockey and doing our best. How long have you been at Redeemer? I have been here since Prep – and I think it’s a really cool community to be in. What piece of advice would you give to your Prep self? Don’t be scared, enjoy your life as you go and always try your best!

Round 2 of JTAS fixtures were unfortunately cancelled due to the extreme heat. This decision was made with the safety of our younger children in mind, with temperatures expected to rise above 36 °C. As round 3 of JTAS approaches it is important to remember that we follow a participation philosophy. This is vital if our players are to continue to enjoy the
game at such a young age and play for a long time. Yes, winning is great fun, but it is not the most important factor! The social and physical benefits of participation is the most important result. As parents and coaches, we can instil this into our juniors through positive reinforcement and encouragement. Before we ask the result ask ‘did you have fun?’ or ‘what did you learn today?’.
