Principal’s Report utilisation of flexible learning spaces in both the Junior and Senior Schools are not end goals in themselves. Rather these tools and approaches to teaching and learning are provided to teachers and students as alternative means for higher learning engagement. These evolving tools and practices stem from the Australian Curriculum and Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Standards, both requirements of the Queensland State Government. These government initiatives include the expectation of utilising e-technologies and require Redeemer, along with all Queensland schools, to develop new pedagogical strategies to incorporate teaching and learning approaches such as more individualised student learning, collaborative learning between students, and an increased focus on encouraging creativity.
The focus on the academic life of the College for 2015 began at the start of the year when we celebrated the results of the graduating class of 2014. We were pleased to congratulate the following three students who received an OP1: Tim Kiemann, Ben Kleinschmidt, and Maryse Warbrooke. Overall, the class of 2014 performed exceptionally well exceeding the State average in the OP1-5 category by nearly 22%. The College’s annual Springboard showcase earlier this term presented a rich, diverse and very high quality display of student work from the Visual Arts, Design and Technology, Home Economics and Information Technology. For the first time, student work from Film and TV was on display. Again, the Springboard program was supported by the Music Department to showcase the exceptional talents of both staff and students. It was a perfect match of culture and technology. From the Principal’s perspective, the 2015 Springboard Showcase was especially well presented and all staff and students should be extremely proud of their work. In 2015 Redeemer’s NAPLAN results continued to reflect the academic success experienced across the College. For the third consecutive year, our student scores were higher than State and National averages in every area tested in every year level. Tracking of cohorts over the last eight years continues to indicate that Redeemer students improve at a greater rate than their State and National counterparts. This success is testament to the support of our parents, the commitment of our students, and the dedication of all staff across the College. Throughout 2015, broader learning activities continued across the College with the 2015 Canberra Tour being the first year in which only Year 6 visited Canberra. The Canberra Tour’s move to Year 6 makes it a significant mountaintop experience of the Junior School into the foreseeable future. In delivering its academic program, Redeemer remains committed to providing high expectations and rigor across the College, in a manner which is supportive of all ability levels in order that students can maximize their learning according to their ability. The ever increasing use of devices at Redeemer, the on-going and expanding use of a Learning Management System, and

First and foremost, Redeemer is focused on maintaining its high standards in literacy, numeracy, science and general knowledge, and the retention of traditional academic knowledge and skills. These are still important requirements in almost all work places and they are essential for tertiary study. Redeemer also must prepare and equip its students for a life engaged with etechnologies, and we will do so in an evolving manner in line with broader developments across education. Survey results plus general and specific feedback continue to highlight Redeemer’s excellent pastoral care across the whole college. Redeemer seeks to continually improve its Pastoral Care service to its families and, where possible, to the wider community. Redeemer’s House system provides many avenues to strengthen relationships across the various year levels. The annual Pavement Art competition across both sub-schools is just one of the House competitions where students can build relationships, and exercise their creativity in a fun and meaningful way. This year, the transitioning of Redeemer Year 6 students to the Senior School for 2016 and beyond was very well received by students and parents. The transition process, established last year, continues to include a Transition Passport for Redeemer Year 6 students going into Year 7, as well as a range of familiarisation activities which have occurred since the beginning of Semester 2 2015. Year 6 students also competed in the ‘Transition Cup’ which involved sporting and trivia contests throughout the year. The Year 6s had their timetable modified as 2015 progressed preparing them for the two week cycle that operates in the Senior School. Other personal organisation initiatives also assisted the Year 6s in their awareness of what will be required of them in 2016. I take this opportunity to thank all Staff who have supported these initiatives in 2015. At Redeemer, students are encouraged to be involved in community service activities. There are many community service activities that our students have enthusiastically supported, through the Student Council in the Junior School, and through the Student Committees in the Senior School. These activities allow students to reflect, considering others less fortunate than themselves and to unselfishly give of themselves and their resources. In the Senior School, some of these activities included ReCykle raising money for the Leprosy Mission, World’s Greatest Shave supporting the Leukemia Foundation, and Lunch on the Green raising money for Beyond Blue.
The Junior School has continued to support charities with this year’s focus on “Helping Hands”. Students recognised that the actual Helping Hands van has ongoing costs and wanted to support this community outreach. The money gathered from Chapel offerings paid for new tyres for the van. In addition to the Junior School support of “Helping Hands”, the whole college has extended itself even further in its involvement. Student and community support has seen an increasing number of students in the Senior School giving up their time on a Friday evening to help on the Van roster, and I was indeed humbled by the Year 12s this year making a substantial donation to support this important service. In the wider community, Our Saviour Lutheran Church continues to staff the Van over the holiday breaks and the Helping Hands Van has attracted personnel (roster) support from the Algester Scout movement. There has been an abundance of highs in the 2015 Performance Music year with all ensembles consistently exceeding expectations through memorable, outstanding performances. A tremendous weekend of ‘My Fair Lady’, perhaps the finest musical Redeemer has staged, was just the icing on the cake for a very busy and productive Performance Music program. All College ensembles continued to have a strong presence at various highprofile competitions in 2015. Senior Concert Band and Stage Band participated in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, one of the biggest school competitions in the country, and placed highly in both sections. Earlier in the year, Senior Concert Band also placed third at the prestigious Queensland Youth Music Awards. Intermediate Concert Band and Year 6 Band took out Gold Awards at Queensland’s MusicFest while Junior Concert Band, in their first outing at this particular event, won a Silver Award. Chamber Strings, Intermediate String Ensemble, Senior Singers, The Fellas, College Choristers and Junior Choir were all awarded at the Redlands Eisteddfod and, as usual, all Performance Music ensembles delivered stunning and polished programs for events such as Redeemer Fair, the Redeemer Concert Series, Springboard and at numerous services and concerts including the Queensland Youth Orchestra’s Concerts at Twilight series at Brisbane’s Old Museum Building. A number of Redeemer students were successful in gaining positions within the Queensland Youth Orchestra organisation for 2016, our most ever, and we are extremely proud of each of them. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Music staff whose love of what they do, and their expertise in their roles, inspires our students on a daily basis. Music is valued very highly in the Redeemer community; this is evident in the strong participation by students and their outstanding achievements. I would like to thank the Music Supporters Group and the many other parents for your ongoing support and encouragement of our hard-working and talented young musicians, and I would also like to thank the students for your commitment and enthusiasm – you are fine ambassadors for the College. 2015 has been an interesting year at Redeemer in regards to Sport. There were challenges and there were individual and team highlights. The principal acknowledges that the challenges were very real and need addressing as soon as practical in order to rightfully support those students, staff and parents involved.
The broader picture of Redeemer Sport for 2015 portrays a community who loves their sport and is very respectful of its importance in a holistic education. JTAS was again superbly supported by students and parents with both outstanding team and individual carnival results. Of particular note were seconds in SLAPS and JTAS Swimming Carnivals, and third in SLAPS Track and Field Carnival. In the Senior School, three Premierships (Boys Tennis Firsts and Year 10 team, and Girls Hockey Seconds) were achieved in the highest level of TAS; an outcome like this has not been achieved by Redeemer for many years. Furthermore, fourteen other teams were placed in the second to fourth rankings which was a very commendable achievement. In each of these sports, students displayed courage, commitment and loyalty to their team mates and the College under challenging circumstances and their performances individually and as teams were exceptional. Attaining a sufficient number of players was a challenging issue in a couple of sports. In 2016, Redeemer will dedicate considerable time and energy to strengthening Sport. I am very appreciative of the hard work and commitment of our Sports staff, including the many coordinators and coaches who kept Sport running throughout the year. Thank you to parents for all you do to support Sport at Redeemer – from providing transport, being involved in the various Supporter Groups, to being the cheer squad or simply providing encouragement when needed. And last, but certainly not least, thank you to the students who are willing to commit time, energy, and enthusiasm. The College has continued to invite parents and students to provide feedback to the College via a range of surveys. This will continue in 2016. Via the use of these tools, Redeemer seeks to better serve its student and parent community, both in its day-to-day operations as well as its forward planning. I encourage parents to complete surveys as they are made available. I assure you that your feedback is welcomed and valued. Community partnerships with the P & F and Our Saviour Lutheran Church have once again been of great benefit to the College in terms of building a strong caring community that models responsible citizenship to our student community, participation through service to others and expressing and exercising the care and love of Christ. Throughout this year, the P & F have continued to support Redeemer through its traditional activities of the parent Supporters Groups and Fair. They have continued to investigate new initiatives with the aims of strengthening the P & F through its fund raising and friend raising activities. This was seen in many ways this year, one such example was the introduction of Year Level Parent Facilitators and the restructuring of the Fair Committee. Speaking of the Fair, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Fair Committee, as well as each and every parent, student, and staff member who contributed to such a wonderful event. It is always a huge effort, but an effort which is richly rewarded, not only through the funds raised, but through the friendships made and strengthened as people work together for a shared goal.

Principal’s Report cont... Another P&F achievement during 2015 has been the establishment of an online community Business Directory! This P&F initiative serves to connect supporters of our college in a practical and mutually beneficial way. The Directory provides a unique opportunity for College families to promote their businesses and offer special discounts direct to our community. Every year I am amazed by the outcomes from the efforts of the P & F and 2015 was an excellent example of parents generously giving of their time and talents in order to support staff and students. 2015 was a big year for our partnership with Our Saviour Lutheran Church as, together, we hosted the 2015 Lutheran Church of Australia General Convention of Synod. This event occurs every three years and is held at different locations around Australia. 2015 was Redeemer’s and Our Saviour’s time to shine. We had approximately 800 people each day who needed accommodation, transport, catering, and support in whatever way was needed. The purpose of this Convention was to bring delegates from every Lutheran Church in Australia to one place in order to conduct important business. This required a huge amount of organisation and logistical support. I am proud to say that the staff of Redeemer and the members of Our Saviour Lutheran Church rose to the challenge working together to meet every need. The theme of the Convention was “Where Love Comes to Life” and I certainly experienced that every day of the Convention. As in previous years, Our Saviour’s support of the co-curricular program, Christian Dance, the reading and giving of Bibles to the Junior School and their support of the Redeemer Fair, continued to be significant contributions to the community life of Redeemer in 2015. The Redeemer community also includes our more mature friends. Each year we look forward to welcoming the many Grandparents and Special Friends of Redeemer students. This is a very special day for families and one that makes lasting memories for all involved. As you are all aware, 2015 was a special year as it marked the centennial of the ANZAC landings. Redeemer’s ANZAC observance commenced with a Dawn Service, followed by a shared breakfast with all who attended. This ANZAC observance involved members of our wider community as well as the students of the Christian Life Committee. Redeemer’s partnerships also extend beyond our shores. The annual visit of Redeemer’s Japanese sister school, Shibakashi, again provided students with a positive and personal interaction with another culture and a sharing of cultural experiences, sport and the arts. The day is educational in the broadest sense of the word and provides families with the opportunity to have lengthy and healthy discussions regarding cultural interaction. The College’s capital program aims to provide contemporary facilities which effectively support the wide range of academic, sporting and cultural programs on offer. This year, Redeemer continued its development of the Middle Years precinct with the additional of a basketball / netball recreation space. The Senior School Courtyard was completely

redeveloped, providing covered outdoor spaces for learning and for socialising. Two new flexible learning areas have been created, one in the Senior School in Room SM9 and the other in the Junior School, being the new Year 4 classroom; this classroom completes the building of permanent classrooms for the Junior School. Other capital works that have been carried out this year include further airconditioning of the Senior School and the upgrade of the Swimming Pool amenities. Over the Christmas holidays, work will be carried out to upgrade the facilities in the Kleinschmidt Centre and the College will begin a pre-emptive painting maintenance program that will see the entire College repainted within the coming years. It is with sadness that we farewell staff, both teaching and nonteaching, who have served the College for a number of years. We thank each of them for their service to the families of the College and wish them all the very best for the future. I thank the following staff who left Redeemer at various times during 2015: Bill Clarke, Adrian Ford, Vicki Francis, Kerwyn Kleinschmidt, Kim McInnes, and Bill Walker. I would also like to thank staff who are leaving at the end of this year: Catherine Andress, Marianne Bell, Anita Robinson, Kristy Schaeffer, and Margarete Wallis. Redeemer has a wonderful staff culture, one that is rich in service, care and professionalism. Throughout 2015, academic staff have worked very hard in their service to families of Redeemer. I would like to pay tribute to the marvellous contribution which they have made on a daily basis. With the common motivation of their Christian faith, they have provided a committed, accepting, forgiving and empowering environment. They have been enthusiastic for their subjects and classes, energetic in engaging students, and evolving in the ways in which new ideas and material have been presented. They have set high standards of professional service and have provided care for and support for each other and their students. Looking across the College, I see overwhelming evidence of hard working, committed and loyal staff in the non-teaching area as well. The beautiful grounds of the College have continued to impress community members and visitors alike and are evidence of a dedicated and creative grounds and maintenance staff. The cleanliness of our facilities equally reflects a cleaning crew who are professional and proud of what they do. Elsewhere the support staff of the College directly serve the needs of parents and visitors through the various Receptions or in their roles of assisting teachers. In all cases, the compliments that flow from the community to the College about the work of all our staff are always appreciated. In closing, I thank the College Council for their leadership of Redeemer this year. At the governance level of the College, it has been an interesting year as the Council grappled with the ever changing needs of 21st century education. I thank College Council for their dedication, guidance and support of the College Executive and of me personally. Mr David Radke Principal
College Council Report As 2015 draws to a close for Redeemer Lutheran College the highlights for me are as follows. The beginning of this year saw the practices for the musical “My Fair Lady” begin in earnest. All of the effort, teamwork and talent by the students and staff culminated in the performances that were presented at the beginning of May. The performances that I saw were amazing and I have heard many praiseworthy comments for all of the shows. The College Council sincerely thanks all the students and staff for their efforts to make each performance such a memorable experience. The remodelling of the Senior School courtyard near SL Block was completed over the summer holidays. With financial assistance from the Parents and Friends Committee, shade sails were subsequently installed in this area. I understand that this area is well used by students during breaks. The College’s air-conditioning program for classrooms continued through the year with financial assistance from the P & F. In order to cope with the electrical demand of these units, the transformer for the Senior School was upgraded during the June/July school holidays. Many thanks to the staff who temporarily relocated themselves while parts of the College were without power for up to a week. In September, Pastor Damien Martin accepted the College’s call to the position of Senior Chaplain. Pastor Damien is currently serving the Dimboola–Jeparit Parish in Victoria. This Parish includes a Primary School at Dimboola. Pastor Damien will commence duties at the College in January 2016. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pastor Damien and family as they prepare to move to Queensland at what is a busy time in the Church year. I take this opportunity to thank the College’s lay chaplains who have continued to serve the College tirelessly while the College was without a Pastor Chaplain. In the middle of the year, work commenced on the construction of an additional Year 4 classroom in the Junior School. This room was built as an extension to the existing two Year 4 classrooms and was recently completed. Many thanks to the existing Year 4 students and their teachers and assistants who transferred to other classrooms while the construction work progressed. All three Year 4 classes are now located in these rooms. The additional room was joined into the existing building to allow for a maximum amount of flexibility between all three classrooms. This additional classroom will allow the building adjacent to the Junior School administration building to be removed. It is proposed to build a covered area on the vacated land. At the end of September, the Lutheran Church of Australia, General Convention of Synod, 2015 was held at Redeemer
Lutheran College. The General Convention of Synod is generally held on a 3 year cycle and also includes the Lutheran Women of Australia National Convention. The months of preparation by the College prior to this event with the assistance of the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District resulted in a Convention that ran very smoothly. Many favourable comments were received about the way Convention was run and also about the quality of the College facilities. Many thanks to the College staff and the Our Saviour Lutheran Church volunteers and other volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the Convention program remained on track and to ensure that all delegates were kept well informed. Redeemer Fair, which is organised by the Parents and Friends Committee, again was a very successful event. Despite what was a gloomy day weatherwise, there was a solid attendance at the Fair. I understand that the profit from this event was one of the highest ever. On behalf of College Council, I thank the many parents, students and staff who volunteered their time over an extended period of time to make this such a great event. The Fair is a part of the Rochedale community. Redeemer would not function as well as it does without all the work of the auxiliaries, such as Parents and Friends Committee, Sporting Supporters groups, Music Supporters, Redeemer Foundation, Our Saviour congregation and the list goes on. To all of the auxiliaries and the associated volunteers, I and College Council thank you. I want to thank College Councillor, Darren Pope, who retired this year, for his service to the College over the past five years. I take this opportunity to thank the members of College Council who volunteer their time to serve as the College’s governing body and ensure that the College remains founded on God’s Word, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Our Hope is in Christ” Mr Ross Warbrooke Chairman

Redeemer Lutheran Parents and Friends College Foundation Committee The past year 2015, has been focused on the reestablishment of the Foundation with a view to position for future development and growth in 2016 and beyond. The year started with the development of the initial Purpose and Objectives for the Foundation.
Purpose and Objectives of Foundation Purpose 1. The Redeemer Foundation exists to: 2. Source and Manage Bequests. 3. Recognise and Reward Achievements on behalf members bequests. 4. Fundraising. 5. Manage the Funds of Foundation. 6. Manage and Protect the Property and Assets of Foundation
Ongoing Objectives 1. Develop the Purpose, Objectives and Strategies in order to Understand and Re-establish the Foundation 2. Understand and Develop the Structure and Model of the Foundation including the Physical and Fiscal. 3. Renew and formalise the relationships with our Key Stakeholders – the College, Members, Community and Regulatory Bodies. 4. Develop a Communication Strategy in order to: • Communicate, Engage and Promote the Fact, Nature and Purpose of Foundation. • Inform the College Community regarding the options to contribute and donate to various avenues. 5. Tidy up the Legacy Arrangements. 6. Develop a Membership Growth and Fundraising Strategy. I believe that the Directors have positioned the Foundation as best as could be expected this year to continue the development and growth of the Foundation over the next few years.
Membership Membership of Foundation should and will be a key focus moving forward and this will be in line with the objectives as they are further developed and delivered into 2016.
2016 The next twelve months will hold a number of opportunities for the Foundation as it deals with the ongoing structure and next steps of establishment and growth to meet the future needs of the College. Wow, this year has really flown! It feels like only yesterday that I was attending opening ceremonies for 2015, and here I am writing my end of year report. 2015 has been my second year as President and, once again, I see this position as an honour to hold. I would like to thank David Radke, College Executive Council and all school staff for their ongoing support of the P & F and our activities. I would like to thank the rest of my wonderful management team publicly for, not only their support, but the endless hours of commitment that they have volunteered to allow our school to have such a good parent body. These amazing men and women have been the drive behind our executive this year and deserve congratulations on a very successful year. Probably the most significant changes were made to the organising of our main fundraiser for the year - Redeemer Fair. These changes saw the Fair this year turn out to be not only a financial success but, more importantly, a community success. We have listened to everyone, including meeting with Senior School Student leaders to seek feedback from them. We have also attempted to set up for the future a more transparent vision of exactly what P & F Funds get spent on, so that people can see the fruits of their assistance and how it helps support all the students now and well into the future. As I mentioned earlier, this is my second year as President, and I would also like to advise the school community that I will not be seeking re-election next year due to work and family commitments. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two years of being able to make a small contribution to making Redeemer the great school that it is. I also would like to thank Nicole Wolf, Deb Tuner, Ross Groch, Peter Grant, Ross Watson and most importantly, Julian Schubert, for all they have done in the past two years. In closing, I would like to strongly encourage you all to consider the opportunity of a position on the P & F Management Committee in the future as, without a strong parent body, you do not have a voice within the school. Rugby Supporters
RLC Cricket Club
Congratulations to our students. This year saw Redeemer Rugby players play with passion and commitment despite challenges in team numbers.
2015 has seen the Redeemer Lutheran College Cricket enter its third year. Once again we have fielded four teams in the EDJCA competition this year with Under 9, 10, 11, and 12 teams. The ages of the boys involved ranges from Year 2 up to Year 6 at the college with a total of 43 children, with 14 of our players from Year 6.
Rugby Supporters is a group of parents who volunteer to work serving barbecue items and drinks at Stoltz Oval for Rugby home games. Stoltz is a remote venue and this service is appreciated by players and spectators. Thank you to everyone involved in this year’s Rugby season, whether playing, coaching, spectating or working on the barbecues, your contribution is appreciated. I encourage new parents to get involved. It is an opportunity to support the players, meet other parents and create a sense of community at the grounds. Funds raised during the Rugby season are used for the benefit of Redeemer Rugby. This year they were used to provide training shirts for the First XV, trophies at the Rugby Dinner and banked for future use. I would like to especially thank, Janette and Carsten Mortensen, Dora and Tony Spinelli, Fiona Sayers, Julie Stanfield and my own children (Jayne and Aidan). These stalwarts made Saturday morning barbecues fun. Nothing phased them, without their assistance on Saturday mornings the Redeemer Rugby Barbecue would not have existed. This is my family’s last year of involvement in Redeemer Rugby and I would like to say how grateful I am for the opportunity to be involved as a supporter. I was able to contribute and show my support whilst celebrating my children’s sporting achievements. I am thankful to my children who welcomed and supported my participation. I have met lovely people and built great friendships with other parents. Get behind the new Rugby Supporters team next year and volunteer some time.
Most teams have had some scoreboard wins which is a big improvement on last year, but win or lose, they are all having fun and the development of their skills and understanding of the game is visible. In conjunction with improvement during matches we have had a few boys trial for representative teams with one, Tim Myatt, being selected for an Eastern Districts development team. Coaching resources remain one of our greatest challenges. The major coaching success for the season has been our recruitment of Robert Ballarino, a grade cricketer from the Redlands Tigers Cricket Club, as our head coach. He has provided structure to training sessions that has often been missing in the past. Unfortunately without the support of enough other junior coaches he has been unable to provide the degree of individual attention we had been hoping for. Recruitment of coaching staff will continue to be a challenge into the future. Up until now the focus of the Cricket Club has been very much at the Junior School level given the age of the participants, but I know there are some enthusiastic parents amongst the Senior School students as well and I hope that we can transform ourselves into being a Cricket Supporters club for the entire college over the next few months. Soccer Supporters 2015 was another great year for Redeemer Soccer, player involvement and skills were of a high standard. The games were engaging and entertaining. Thank you to everyone who assisted the Soccer Supporters group, especially the Leeming, Mortensen, Spinelli, and Stanfield families. Monies raised though the home game barbecues go directly to the Soccer Supporters group. This year some of the profits were used for a break-up party, which was greatly appreciated by players. Redeemer Soccer Supporters 2015 was heavily reliant on Year 12 parents for assistance. This has resulted in a void for next year. Please consider volunteering some of your time at a home game in 2016. Whether it’s setting up first thing in the morning, serving at the barbecue, or packing up after the last game of the day, any time you can spare is valued. The success of our musical “My Fair Lady” this year can only be attributed to the hard work and effort put in by all involved. Music Supporters were on hand during the many rehearsals to provide refreshments to the students and staff during their breaks from the rigorous schedule. We were also pleased to be able to purchase the much needed sconce lights for the musical orchestra shedding a little light on their music! Music Supporters volunteers are also involved in the various concerts held at school throughout the year collecting entry fees and organising supper during intermission breaks. These concerts not only give parents and friends an opportunity to hear their children perform, but also teach the young musicians valuable performance skills and above all give the opportunity to create beautiful music together.

Music performances at the Fair showcased our many very talented young musicians and the dedication of all of the wonderful conductors and accompanists involved. Music Supporters were once again involved in running the MPC Coffee Shop. As always, all of the proceeds of our various fundraising activities throughout the year go directly back into the music program. Of note this year we were able to put funds into the purchase of a vibraphone to be used across many of the ensembles with a plan to help with the purchase of other additional instruments to support next year’s program.

What a fantastic year we’ve had in the Music Department in 2015! With a buzz of excitement our music performance groups gathered at the beginning of the year with record numbers of students participating in the program from Year 2 right through to Year 12. Once again, members of Music Supporters were on hand to fit performance uniforms in preparation for the year ahead.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff involved in the music program for their ongoing dedication and support and also the many parents who support their students in music. I would also like to thank the members of the Music Supporters group for their tireless efforts and look forward to doing it all again in 2016!
