First Sunday of Christmas Pastor Jonathan Trapp, preaching

Zoom Communion following postlude

*Note one service at 10 am, led by the Jazz Trio

The theme of the Day: The psalmist calls on the natural world, celestial bodies, fire and earth, creatures, and all humanity, to praise God. The voices of Simeon and 84-year-old Anna join the chorus today, recognizing what God is doing in Jesus. Simeon’s song is often sung after communion, for we have seen God’s salvation in the assembled community and have held Jesus in our hands in the bread. Then, like the prophet Anna, we tell of Jesus to all who look for the healing of the world.

Sunday "If you have two coats, give one away," he said. "Do the same with your food." Luke 3:11 Luke’s words are ones we need to keep in mind this time of year. Redeemer does share food through the Lutheran Community Food Ministry, Wednesday dinners and Midtown Assistance Center. Now we have an opportunity to help with the first part of his message. For December Redeemer is doing our Annual Coat Drive for one of our ministry partners, Midtown Assistance Center (MAC). The drive will be held at Redeemer, beginning Sunday, December 3 through Sunday, December 31, 2023, in Sims Atrium, utilizing barrels or large plastic storage containers, labeled: MAC COAT DRIVE, for collection of gently used Men’s, Women’s and Children’s Outerwear (coats/jackets/parkas/etc.) for the MAC closet, to be offered to community members less fortunate during the cold winter weather. We are hoping to get donations early so they can provide coats to those in need as part of the Christmas giving for MAC clients. Your generosity at this holy time of the year will be greatly appreciated.

Children & Family December 31, there is no Sunday School due to the holidays. Have a Happy New Year, and we can’t wait to see you again for Sing and Play on January 7!

Youth High School and Beyond Parents will be meeting on Sunday, January 7 for their monthly gathering. Middle School Parents will meet on Sunday, December 17 (if needed) and then again on Sunday, January
