Advent 2024 Light Dawns on a Weary World Light dawns on a weary world when eyes begin to see all people's dignity. Light dawns on a weary world: the promised day of justice comes. Refrain The trees shall clap their hands; the dry lands, gush with springs; the hills and mountains shall break forth with singing! We shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace, as all the world in wonder echoes shalom.
This year's Advent Theme is inspired by hymn #726 in the ELW. The text, written by May Louise Bringle, is full of expectancy, restoration, and renewal both for the natural world and the human community In every verse, the “weary world” is balanced with a promised day of change: “the promised day of justice,” “the promised feast of plenty” and “the promised green of Eden”

Living with expectancy is not about waiting for a far off future, but expecting God's new world of light, love and hope to break into our world today. Whenever dignity is recognized, the hungry are fed, and the natural world is preserved, light dawns on a weary world.
