INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S HISTORY DAY Redding Rancheria
This year the Indigenous People’s Day was held on Saturday, October 10th in front of Redding City Hall. The event was a PPE Drive-thru giveaway. This was a community health and safety event during the Covid-19 pandemic. The committee hosted the event to keep the community safe, while unmasking the truth and Re-RIGHTING history. There was an opportunity to take a selfie at the following locations to learn more about the factual history of the sites.

Members Wellness Drive Thru Redding Rancheria
On October 28, 2020 we held our Redding Rancheria Members Wellness Conference. Although we were unable to gather in our normal setting, we were still able to provide health and wellness to our membership. Members driving through were able to pick up a variety of wellness items that ranged from health and fitness, to reading up on mindfulness, pampering kits, vitamins, and more. Mental and physical health are very important and we want to ensure that our tribal community has the resources available to live healthy and happy life styles.

TRIBAL COURT Redding Rancheria
The Redding Rancheria Tribal Court has been operating since 2006. The Court focuses primarily on cases concerning the general welfare of tribal families. The Court was in desperate need of a new court room table that would help tribal families heal and reconnect. Thankfully, the Tribe was able to commission Stephan Cheney, Lakota of the Kul Wicasa Oyate and founder of High Rez Wood Company, to build the custom native California walnut, hand-crafted court table with inlaid resin work. The Legal Department and Court Staff collaborated with Stephan and, ultimately, requested a 12’ wide circular table, comprised of three equal sections. Stephan made the intentional decision to use Indigenous wood from the Tribe’s traditional lands. Stephan also prayed and was in ceremony throughout some of the processes to build the table. Each piece was crafted thoughtfully and laid out to align the wood to form a triangle pattern. The inlaid turquoise resin river is inspired by the Sacramento River and is to remind people of their connections to the water and the fluidity of their paths. Each section of the table has a privacy panel with one of the Redding Rancheria tribal symbols etched in, so when the three table connect, all symbols of tribal nations unite together. Additionally, to pay homage to the intricate basket weavers of our region, the Tribe also commissioned Stephan to design and build a custom wood clock engraved with one of the Tribe’s basket designs. Like the table, Stephan used the native California walnut. The Indigenous art Stephan has created was presented to the Tribe with an honoring and prayer exchange. The table and clock will not only activate the eyes, but they will also ignite other senses such as touch and smell. Please Welcome Dr. Amna Aziz, MD We would like to welcome, Dr. Amna Aziz, MD, who just came to us from Indianapolis, IN. While there, she completed a five-year combined residency training program in Pediatrics/Psychiatry/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Indiana University. She is a pediatrician and child and adolescent psychiatrist. Her and her husband recently married in May with a COVID-style service. They live with their dog Cleo, and their two cats Sadie and Merlin. “I am looking forward to exploring Redding and the surrounding area, especially spending time in the mountains and on the coast!”, says Dr. Amna Aziz, MD. TRINITY HEALTHCARE Redding Rancheria
New Physician’s Assistant Sara Hofferber is a Physician Assistant who was recently hired to work at Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center. She is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and has a passion for serving rural and tribal communities. She attended Oklahoma City University where she graduated in May with a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. She also obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Health Science with a minor in Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma and is working on finishing her Master’s Degree in Public Health from Oklahoma State University. She enjoys working in Family Medicine because it includes all of the specialties she loves (Endocrinology, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and ENT). She is from Edmond, Oklahoma and moved to Weaverville, CA with her fiancé, puppy, and two cats. She enjoys hiking, painting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is looking forward to serving members of the community and exploring all of the amazing outdoor activities that Northern California has to offer! 8

Win River Resort & Casino names Christopher A. Hart, Sr. as New General Manager Win River Resort & Casino recently announced the appointment of Christopher A. Hart, Sr. as the new General Manager. Christopher graduated from the University of Phoenix with a bachelor’s degree in business management and will soon graduate with a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources. Christopher has more than 10 years of experience in all outlets of Win River Resort & Casino. “Working as a frontline team member throughout my career has given me firsthand knowledge of the challenges that our team members face daily. I genuinely want Win-River Resort & Casino to be a place where our people can enjoy and do their best work,” says Christopher. Prior to accepting this position, Christopher had the opportunity to serve as Assistant General Manager for 3 years and served as the Director of Security prior to that. Christopher is a fortunate husband and a father to six beautiful children. Christopher is also a member of the Redding Rancheria, a proud sovereign nation that owns and operates WinRiver Resort & Casino, and is the grandson of one of the Tribe’s original distributees, Arthur Hayward. Christopher has been excited to have the opportunity to start shaping Win-River Resort & Casino’s culture and continuing to improve efficiencies, productivity, and to promote a positive environment for employees to thrive in. Christopher’s experience and knowledge will be invaluable in meeting organizational goals and objectives, and achieving the long term vision of the Redding Rancheria Tribe.
Teamwork, communication, and honesty are the founding principles that Christopher leads with. One of his favorite quotes is “You don’t become enormously successful without encountering and overcoming a number of extremely challenging problems” by Mark Victor Hansen. Christopher looks forward to helping make a positive impact on the lives of Win-River Resort & Casino’s team members and surrounding communities, and also to working with other tribal leaders on important issues facing Indian Country.
