WORLD DIABETES DAY Redding Rancheria
Did you know that Native Americans have a 2 times higher chance to have diabetes? This is greater than any other US racial group. World Diabetes Day gives us the opportunity to promote diabetes awareness. World Diabetes Day is held on November 14th each year. Type 2 Diabetes is largely a preventable and treatable non-communicable disease that is rapidly increasing in numbers worldwide. Type 1 Diabetes is not preventable but can be managed with insulin injections.
NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE CELEBRATION AT SIMPSON COLLEGE Redding Rancheria
Tonight was a great night to hold the Native American Heritage Month Cultural Presentation with our local Tribes (Wintu, Yana & Pit River.) Thank you to all who presented and attended a special celebration honoring our local Tribal groups on Monday Nov. 22nd, at the Student Union at Simpson College. Members of the Wintu, Pit River, and Yana tribes shared traditional stories and displayed artwork and basketry, some 200 to 300 years old. A special Documentary about the local tribal experience was shown. A traditional 3 Sisters Stew was served (squash, corn, and beans was presented by members of the Redding Rancheria Tribe and Hosted by the Simpson University Diversity Committee.
TRIBAL COUNSEL ORIENTATION – SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA TRIP Redding Rancheria
The Redding Rancheria Tribal Council and Executive staff had the honor of meeting with David Antone, Tribal Council member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Tribe on their homelands in Scottsdale, Arizona. Redding Rancheria Chairman, Jack Potter gifted him with a tribal Pendleton blanket and necklaces that he personally made for their council. The group learned about each other’s Tribes. The Salt River PimaMaricopa Tribe has approximately 11,000 tribal members. They have a 9-person Tribal Council. The Redding Rancheria Tribal Council met on their lands for their annual Tribal Council Orientation. The council meets every year after elections to review the year and plan for the upcoming year.

HAPPY 25TH WORK ANNIVERSARY Redding Rancheria
Don began his career with the Redding Rancheria as an Accounting Technician I/Payables in 1996. He later became the Senior Director of Human Resources in 1998. He has been in HR since then for the past 23 years. Don has also served on the Tribal Council for many years. In his spare time, he loves to ride the electronic scooter along the Sacramento River Trail. He loves to travel and take road trips, especially to see one of his daughters living in Florida. Don is known for being a great dad to his two daughters and for throwing wild Benner Palooza parties! And for his infamous favorite phrase “Bananas!” Congratulations on 25 years!

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS FOR CHILDREN REDDING RANCHERIA TRIBAL HEALTH SYSTEM
A message from the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System: The Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center will be offering free COVID vaccinations to children ages 5-11 starting on Tuesday. This is open to all children in Shasta County. Register at www.RRTHS.org

Here at Redding Rancheria, we have felt the pain and loss in our own community. We’ve supported individuals and families who have been affected by the pandemic and mourned those we have lost. Redding Rancheria Tribal Health now has COVID-19 Vaccines available for all of our patients. The Redding Rancheria and Win-River Resort & Casino were proud to give the Annual South Shasta County Stuff the Truck Event in coordination with Clean Rite Build Rite, a $2,000 donation.

VOLUNTEERISM Redding Rancheria
Skyler Hayward coached her first season of JV volleyball at Anderson High School for the 2021 season. Skyler created a family connection within her team, tried to inspire overall well-being for her girls, and started to influence a strong culture of volleyball at Anderson High School. She also coached her team to their first JV volleyball win in over two years. We love seeing our tribal members active in the community and are proud of Skyler for contributing her time and energy to our community’s youth. Go Cubs!

Our own Chairman Jack Potter Jr. at the Honoring of Senator Maurice Johanessen for Veteran’s Day. He honored him with a Redding Rancheria Pendleton Blanket at the presentation held at the Veteran’s Hall in Redding.
