EYE PACS RETINAL CAMERA
REDDING RANCHERIA TRINITY HEALTH CENTER In 2019 Trinity Health Center was awarded an EyePACS Retinal Camera and equipment package through Partnership Heath Plan’s Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program. Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease caused by chronic, uncontrolled diabetes. Without intervention or treatment, retinopathy can lead to vision impairment and blindness. Regular screening exams increase early detection of retinopathy and can significantly limit disease progression. Because early stages of the disease are often asymptomatic, an annual screening is generally recommended for all Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients. All of our patients will have the convenience of getting diabetic retinopathy screenings at Trinity Health Center starting in June 2019.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH REDDING RANCHERIA
The Community Health hosts many events throughout the year geared towards small healthy lifestyle changes focused on improving your health and wellness. Eligible patients of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center are invited to attend our diabetes education workshops, weight loss classes, focus group and talking circles, kid’s camp and quarterly cooking classes. We also provide one on one nutrition and diabetes education with our Registered Dietitian and Diabetes educator. Recently, we started a new Community Walk program. We meet every 1st Friday and 3rd Wednesday of the month to enjoy community with each other while getting our bodies moving. Now that the weather is warming up we have started holding those walks at the Sundial Bridge. Each person is encouraged to walk at their own pace and only go the distance they are comfortable with. If you are wanting to get outside and get moving, but aren’t quite sure when or where to start, please give me a call. We are excited to work with patients of different activity levels to start taking steps to a healthier and happier you. Shayla Reyes Community Health 530-226-1787

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM REDDING RANCHERIA
THE MONTH OF MAY IS “OLDER AMERICANS MONTH” History of Older Americans Month When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, only 17 million living Americans had reached their 65th birthday. About a third of older Americans lived in poverty and there were few programs to meet their needs. Interest in older Americans and their concerns was growing. A meeting in April 1963 between President John F. Kennedy and members of the National Council of Senior Citizens led to designating May as “Senior Citizens Month,” the prelude to “Older Americans Month.”
Older Americans Month 2019 Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to: • Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation. • Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment. • Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others. Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.

VIRTUAL REALITY HEADSETS REDDING RANCHERIA The medical department now has two Oculus Go virtual reality headsets. Combined with Dermic Vaccination VR, a virtual reality vaccination program, we are able to reduce the fear, anxiety, and pain of vaccinations in children aged 4-9. We have already had many of our young patients benefiting from this experience. Parents have also been impressed with the program.
