2021 PATHWAYS TO HOPE DONTATION REDDING RANCHERIA

Redding Rancheria Tribal Council Kick off Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month in a Big Way by Sponsoring Shasta County Youth for Camp HOPE America – Pathways Redding, CA – Pathways to Hope for Children’s (Pathways) Camp HOPE America - Pathways program received a generous $15,000 donation from the Redding Rancheria Tribal Council today. “We are so beyond excited that the Redding Rancheria Tribal Council donated $15,000 to support trauma exposed youth in our community through our Camp HOPE America – Pathways program,” said Pathways Executive Director, Michael Burke. The Camp HOPE America – Pathways program provides a week-long camping experience for youth exposed to domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. After camp ends, we will offer our youth the opportunity to meet daily at our Anderson Teen Center, take part in monthly activities and support the families year-round with in-home case management through our Parent Partner Program at no cost to them. “The COVID-19 situation has been hard on all of us, especially our youth,” said Jack Potter Jr., Tribal Chairperson for the Redding Rancheria. “We are proud to give back to programs in our community, like Pathways to Hope for Children, that are providing direct services to children.” At camp, and in all of our programs, Pathways is focusing on the science of hope. According to published reports, hope is the best predictor of wellbeing than any other measure. Camp HOPE America – Pathways uses evidence-based programing to provide pathways to hope and healing to trauma exposed youth. April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. Rates of Child Abuse in Shasta County are almost three times higher than the state average. The Redding Rancheria continues to show their dedication and support to youth in our community. Five Counties Central Labor Council Essential Worker Vaccination Event March 27, 2021 With the help of our medical partners at the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System, the Five Counties Central Labor Council Covid-19 mass vaccination event for our members within our Five Counties CLC jurisdiction (Shasta, Siskiyou, Modoc, Trinity and Tehama counties) was a success. The Rancheria estimated that they would be administering 1,200 Johnson and Johnson vaccinations for essential workers within our Labor Council. Even though Crystal and her husband Kennith have already received their Covid-19 vaccinations, they graciously show up to volunteer in any way they could. “It’s impressive how much help the Rancheria has provided to the community”, Kennith commented. “They are really helping the essential workers within our Central Labor Council” Crystal shared. Ray Thomas stated “There is no way the Five Counties Central Labor Council could have offered the vaccinations to our essential workers without the assistance of the California Labor Fed in securing the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, and certainly we could not have held the event without our medical partners at the Redding Rancheria. From my first visit when I requested their partnership, Glen Hayward reached out immediately to get this event rolling. The Redding Rancheria made this mass vaccination a reality and the Five Counties Central Labor Council is indebted to them.”

REDDING RANCHERIA HEAD START & CHILD CARE REDDING RANCHERIA New Playground The head start staff is so happy to welcome our students back on a hybrid schedule. We are excited to see our children finally playing on the new culturally based playground. Jack Potter Jr. performed a blessing for the playground in the arbor with the children and taught them some Wintu words and taught them about some of our cultural traditions! It’s so great to have our children back!

REDDING RANCHERIA HELPS VACCINATE 880 SHASTA COUNTY RESIDENTS REDDING RANCHERIA

The Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System is happy to announce that 880 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were distributed at their vaccination event held on Sunday, March 14th to anyone 18 or older who live in Shasta County. The goal of the Redding Rancheria is to make the vaccine available to as many people as possible regardless of age or comorbidity. The Vaccine event was conducted from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center located at 1441 Liberty St. in Redding. The entire process from check-in to getting your shot was created to get people in and out as fast and efficiently as possible. We accomplished that with more than 50 staff members working alongside 6 doctors to ensure the process ran smooth for everyone involved. The process included vaccinating 40 people about every 20 minutes with no lines. We hope to create opportunities to vaccinate more people in the community. We are already considering what the next public vaccination will look like. We recognize there is great need in our community and have taken the necessary steps to open up our vaccine program to all residents 18 and over. The Redding Rancheria is currently administering both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Vaccines.

The Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System held another COVID-19 Mass Vaccination day on Saturday March 27th from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Our focus this time was on tradespeople, electricians, plumbers, contractors, grocery store clerks, postal workers, as well as the general public 18 years of age and older. We administered 1018 doses of the Johnson & Johnson 1 shot and done vaccine. The goal of the Redding Rancheria is to make the vaccine available to as many people as possible regardless of age or comorbidity #proudtoplayourpart

THE DISNEYLAND TALK REDDING RANCHERIA

If you work at Disneyland you are not an employee; you are a character in the show “The Happiest Place on Earth” If you are the person sweeping up popcorn on Main Street, you couldn’t be happier. Your job is to have a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah day. I give this talk to the medical staff periodically. Most people are not happy about going to a medical clinic. Something is wrong, they don’t feel well, or they have to talk about uncomfortable things…. Our job as clinic staff is to be happy and welcoming and put the patients at ease. Our job, I tell them, is to at least pretend to be happy. The happier you act the happier you and everyone around you will be. I gave this talk to the medical staff last month. A week later, when I arrived at my office, all the staff had Mickey Mouse Ears on and my office was decorated with every known Disney character. They wanted me to know they heard me. - Dr. Paul Davis

We are pleased to announce our Wellness Award 2020 Winner is: Maria Orozco, Public Relations for the Redding Rancheria. Each year an award is handed out to honor someone who is, has become, or is working on being healthy. Maria Orozco is receiving this award for the following reasons: She exhibits fortitude, focus and wellness even with the COVID shut down. When in-person Jazzercise classes had to close due to COVID and they went to online classes only, Maria did not stop her workouts. She set up a workout space in her garage and kept with it, inviting her grandson Gabe to join her! Committing to working out from home is hard and her dedication shows Maria’s high level of commitment to her health, her grandson’s health as well as the health of her friends, coworkers and family as she is always encouraging others to take care of themselves. She leads by example and loves sharing her exuberance for health and fitness.
