We appreciate our friends at KNCR 96.5fm radio for featuring the Redding Rancheria Hour each month. For the month of July, we spoke with our Redding Rancheria Economic Development Cooperation President, Jeremy Hayward, and Redding Rancheria CEO Tracy Edwards. They both discussed plans regarding our efforts to combat climate change while collaborating with Hydrogen 2 Energy group. You can tune in next time on August 15 at 8am when we catch up again. SUMMER KIDS CAMP 2023 REDDING RANCHERIA TRIBAL HEALTH SYSTEM
Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System and our Community Health Department held its Annual Kids Camp, an exciting health-oriented journey for children aged 7-11. Over the two weeks of camp, 30 children participated in a variety of activities, learning about nutrition, exercise, mental wellness, and hygiene in a fun, interactive way. The Kids Camp, yet again, affirms Redding Rancheria’s commitment to fostering a healthier, happier future for our children.

REDDING RANCHERIA OFFERS HELP DURING E. COLI WATER CRISIS REDDING RANCHERIA
When others are in need, we are obligated to offer assistance and aid. Such as the Redding Rancheria did on Friday, July 14, 2023. The Redding Rancheria was proud to provide clean water to the Pit River Tribe in the midst of an E. coli water crisis. Council members were able to hand deliver water cases to elders in need. We are proud to play our part, provide for, and work with other tribes in times like these. Together is the best way forward!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: TRIBAL ATTORNEY, MICHAEL HOLLOWELL REDDING RANCHERIA As an employee of the Redding Rancheria, tribal attorney Michael Hollowell has had the honor and privilege to serve as a member on the local Shasta Family YMCA Board. During the pandemic, the Shasta Family YMCA expanded services into a new building and established a free after school program for youth in the community. That afterschool program is fully up and running and serves nearly 300 youth in our community during the school year. Michael invites everyone to come down to the Shasta Family YMCA and see all the cool things happening there. As a longtime supporter of the Shasta Family YMCA, the Redding Rancheria is proud to play its part to help make a difference in our community.

AMERICAN VOLUNTEER INDIAN SPOTLIGHT: CHAMBER TRIBAL OF COMMERCE ATTORNEY, REDDING RANCHERIA MICHAEL HOLLOWELL
The American Indian Chamber of Commerce EXPO ’23 held REDDING at Agua Caliente Resort RANCHERIA started with an interactive session to promote Native entrepreneurial excellence on “Developing Your Personal Entrepreneurial Brand”! Maria Orozco, Redding Rancheria PR Expert, facilitated this session teaching attendees how to incorporate who they are, why they started their business and what motivates them into their business pitch, capabilities statement and other marketing tools.

FIRST ANNUAL TRINITY HEALTH FAIR REDDING RANCHERIA TRIBAL HEALTH SYSTEM
On July 27, the Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center held its first annual Health Fair. Over 40 local vendors participated in our event. We had a variety of crafts, baked goods, jewelry, chocolate, plants, several local resources and so much more. We cannot forget Husky’s Indian Taco’s. Members of the community were also able to get free health screenings such as A1C for diabetic screening, Blood Pressure checks, Hepatitis-C screening and body compensation evaluation. In addition, they had an opportunity to meet and engage directly with our amazing healthcare team. We are proud to serve the Trinity County Community and we are glad you helped make out first health fair a resounding success!

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY 2023 REDDING RANCHERIA ELDER NUTRITION
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, each week we offer an Elder Nutrition Program that supplies FREE meals to seniors. This is a very successful program and it is accomplished with the efforts of our dedicated volunteers. They help serve meals, pick up plates, wash dishes, fill juice and water pitchers, get ice, pass out milk, call bingo, help with bingo, raffles, make popcorn, etc. Volunteer Appreciation Day is dedicated to the volunteers with lunch and gifts. This year the elders received a blanket and a gift card. We love to gather with and support the elders in our community. WE APPRECIATE YOU! Our Honored Volunteers were Dick Duval, Shirley Vasquez, Wally Peppel, Jim Duval, Robert Hernandez, Nellie Siaz, Eileen Siaz, Caroline Wilkes, Pete Toro and Margaret Toro.

TRINITY HEALTH CENTER NEW AQUATIC CLASSES REDDING RANCHERIA TRIBAL HEALTH SYSTEM
In May 2023, the Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center started offering free aquatic’s classes for anyone who is an established patient. The program has been very popular. Currently we have two aqua classes every week. Many have expressed appreciation for this program and the many services we provide. We at RRTHS, strive to offer the highest level of service and we are continually looking for ways to serve our patients more effectively!

Congratulations on another successful and fun Trinity County Fair! The Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center, in Weaverville, appreciates all the support from the people and community. We are always proud to sponsor Native American Heritage Day and offer free parking to all fair goers. We were out there for three fun filled days. We heard so many good things about our service to our patients. We are honored to be able to serve the community in the mountains. The talent show was epically entertaining. We look forward to the fair returning next year.

WHAT’S ON THE RECOVERY DIRECTOR’S DESK? ~KATHERINE HALEY, RECOVERY DIRECTOR
Hello! My name is Katherine Haley and I recently completed my first year as the Recovery Director with the Redding Rancheria Recovery Program at Churn Creek Healthcare. It has been a wonderful year of connection, planning and growth. So what is new, and what are we working on? In January of this year we hired two new Recovery team members and received our first recovery grant! Patients are benefitting and thriving with these additional social supports.
Kasey Martindale is our new Recovery Case Manager. She has worked in healthcare and recovery for 5+ years and she knows the ins and outs of the local programs, services and eligibility criteria. In this short time, she has made strong community connections and helped patients navigate the process of withdrawal management programs, residential treatment programs, sober living, as well as more permanent housing options. Additionally, she plays an active role with linkage to care – whether that is food assistance programs, employment assistance and referrals, or finding free or affordable transportation. solution-focused.

Kristi Morales is our new Substance Abuse Counselor. We know that recovery looks differently on everybody and sometimes talking with a non-judgmental counselor to explore thoughts and feelings about drugs and alcohol use might be a beneficial first step. Previously Kristi volunteered her time to facilitate our Red Road meetings, and we are lucky she has since joined us full time at Churn Creek. She is currently offering individual counseling at RRTHC - Liberty Campus and two therapeutic support groups for our Recovery Patients at Churn Creek Healthcare.
Our
new groups include: Relapse Prevention – Fun in Recovery, and Seeking Safety, which is a present-focused, coping skills group that encourages safety as the first priority.

The Recovery department was fortunate to be selected as a recipient of SOR III funding from DHCS, which means we are increasing our community education and access to buprenorphine treatment for opioid addiction.
Our
hope is to reach individuals and families who could benefit from drug or alcohol treatment and ensure they know all the possible support available. We strive for a “no wrong door approach” and meet the patient where they are in their recovery journey, whether that is a harm reduction approach or full abstinence. We share accurate and important information about what is going on in the community, especially around hidden fentanyl and fentanyl poisoning. We are also educating individuals and groups on how and when to use Narcan to prevent overdose, as well as the hazards of Xylazine (Tranq) which is here in our community. In addition to Suboxone, we are pleased to share we are one of the few clinics in Redding with the options of Sublocade (injectable buprenorphine) to treat opioid addiction. At night, we invited our team members and their family/guests to attend an exclusive evening at Waterworks Park. Jessica Finance Office Assistant
Jessica has the best personality and the sweetest disposition, following many of the casino’s values naturally. Her teamwork is amazing! We can always trust her to be available last minute, and she is always approachable and friendly. If I need help, I know I can always rely on Jessica to follow instructions with accuracy, and she will do her best to complete the job with minimal questions thoroughly and quickly. Jessica shows her integrity by always staying busy, even when no one is watching. Many times I am unaware she is in the office at the end of the day because she works steadily yet quietly so as to not disturb the team. No matter the job, we can always trust Jessica to make sure it’s completed with minimal supervision, and many times she will take up audits without being asked.

Mark Help Desk Specialist I would like to nominate Mark for Team Member of the Month. Since Mark came to our department, he has worked nonstop to get our rewiring project finished, the old equipment out, and the new equipment up and running. When there is anything to do, he is the first to volunteer to do or assist with it. Mark is eager to learn new skills, helps teach me new techniques, and has shown me many of the wiring and networking things he has picked up over the years of being with Win-River Resort & Casino. He is a tremendous asset to our team, and I do not think we could have made a better choice to complete the helpdesk. I would really like to show my appreciation for him, his work, and what he really means to our team. Thank you, Mark!
