Pinwheels for Hope with Raising Shasta

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and stand together in support of children and families in our community.

In recognition of this important month, Redding Rancheria partnered with Raising Shasta to create a powerful visual display at the Win River Mini Mart. A total of 426 pinwheels were placed on the lawn, each one representing a substantiated case of child abuse in Shasta County. This display serves as a meaningful reminder of the challenges many children face and the critical importance of prevention, advocacy, and community support.

The pinwheel display will remain in place throughout the month of April, encouraging ongoing awareness and inspiring action across the community. It stands as a symbol of hope and a call to work together to create safer, healthier environments for all children.

In addition, Redding Rancheria presented a proclamation to Raising Shasta in support of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, reaffirming a shared commitment to protecting children and strengthening families.

Hosting James Gallagher for a Tour

Redding Rancheria recently welcomed Assemblyman James Gallagher for a tour of the future site of our new Tribal Health Facility. The visit provided an opportunity to share our vision for expanding healthcare services and to highlight the importance of this project for our community.

As a tribal sovereign nation, Redding Rancheria is committed to increasing access to high quality healthcare for our members as well as the broader community. The new Tribal Health Facility represents a significant investment in the long term health and wellbeing of those we serve, and reflects our ongoing dedication to providing comprehensive and culturally centered care.

We appreciate Assemblyman Gallagher taking the time to visit, learn more about our plans, and engage directly with our leadership and team. His visit comes as he seeks to fill the remainder of the seat of our late friend and representative, Doug LaMalfa.

Redding Rancheria looks forward to continued dialogue and partnership as we work together to strengthen the health and vitality of our community and the surrounding region.

Leadership Redding Arts & Culture Day

Redding Rancheria was proud to participate in the Arts and Culture Day for the Leadership Redding Class of 2026.

Cultural Assistants Dakota Jeff and Marcelo Banuelos attended the event and represented the Tribe throughout the day. Their presence provided an opportunity to engage with community members and share information about Indigenous culture and traditions.

The event fostered meaningful conversations, with many attendees expressing interest in learning more about local Tribes. Dakota and Marcelo answered questions and offered valuable insight into Tribal history, culture, and community life.

They also highlighted the significance of the Stillwater Pow Wow, emphasizing its role in bringing people together and supporting both Native and non-Native communities. Discussions included the cultural, social, and economic impact of such events on the Tribe and the surrounding region.

Overall, the event was a positive and rewarding experience. It served as an important opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen community connections, and represent Redding Rancheria.

Redding Rancheria Earth Day Fair 2026

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at the Redding Rancheria Earth Day Fair. It was truly a wonderful day filled with connection, celebration, and a shared commitment to caring for our planet.

Seeing families, friends, and community members come together to support local vendors, learn, and enjoy the festivities made the event incredibly special. Your presence and enthusiasm are what brought the day to life.

Head Start & Child Care Easter Egg Hunt

Head Start recently hosted its annual Easter egg hunt for students and families, and this year’s event was a hopping success! With over 1,000 eggs hidden for the children to find, excitement filled the air as families joined in the fun. Adding to the festivities, the Easter Bunny made a special appearance, delighting kids with photos and hugs.

This year’s celebration was particularly meaningful as it also marked the final day for our beloved bus driver, Willie. Having served the tribe for many years, Willie has been a cherished member of the Head Start team, ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of our students each day. Her dedication and care have made a lasting impact on countless children and families.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Willie for her years of service, commitment, and support. She will be deeply missed on the daily routes, but her contributions will always be remembered. This Easter egg hunt was a wonderful way to celebrate our students, families, and the remarkable people who make our program so special.

Head Start & Child Care Easter Egg Hunt

James Lick Middle School Visit

On Wednesday, April 8th, the Redding Rancheria Cultural Department had the honor of hosting approximately 45 students from James Lick Middle School as they traveled from San Francisco to Oregon on their annual field trip. This visit has been an annual tradition for approximately 15 years.

The group arrived at the Tribal Administration Building in the morning, where the Cultural Department welcomed them with introductions before guiding them along the Clear Creek nature trail to the Arbor. Upon arrival, staff demonstrated proper cultural protocols for entering the Arbor, sharing songs using a clapstick, and offered a prayer with the group.

Following their time at the Arbor, the students were led back to the Community Room. There, they had the opportunity to observe a selection of baskets and artifacts while learning about their traditional uses and cultural significance. Students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion about the Tribe’s culture.

Before lunch, the group watched a video on the history of the Tribe, followed by an additional questionand-answer session. Afterward, they continued their journey to Oregon.

Although their visit is only a few hours long, the students consistently have a meaningful and engaging experience. They show great interest in learning about the Tribe’s rich history, culture, and the broader history of California Tribes. We look forward to welcoming them again next year.

Medical Admissions Team

The Medical Admissions teams at Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Systems play an essential role in shaping each patient’s experience from the very beginning. As the first point of contact, they create a welcoming and supportive environment, ensuring that every individual feels comfortable and cared for upon arrival.

Their work goes beyond a warm greeting. The team is responsible for coordinating appointments, managing patient information, and facilitating the admissions process with efficiency and accuracy. By keeping operations organized and streamlined, they help reduce wait times and support a seamless flow for both patients and providers.

Medical Admissions teams also provide important guidance throughout the check in process. They assist patients with paperwork, answer questions, and ensure that all necessary information is complete and accurate. Their attention to detail and commitment to service help patients feel informed and at ease.

Through their professionalism, organization, and compassion, the Medical Admissions teams set the tone for high quality care. Their dedication plays a key role in delivering a positive and reassuring healthcare experience for every patient who walks through the doors.

Raising Shasta’s, “The Royal Rumble”

This April, Redding Rancheria Tribal Member and Win-River Resort & Casino Director of Gaming, Trisha Baker, stepped into the ring for a powerful cause, participating in Raising Shasta’s 2026 Roaring Rumble fundraiser. Trisha faced off against Leadership Redding participant Liz Crain in a spirited match that brought together community leaders for an unforgettable evening of philanthropy and friendly competition.

The Roaring Rumble is a unique annual event that pairs local leaders and community figures in amateur boxing matches to raise funds in support of Raising Shasta’s vital programs. The event featured multiple matchups, including youth bouts sanctioned by USA Boxing, showcasing both emerging talent and community dedication to the cause.

Raising Shasta is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening families through youth development, community outreach, and child abuse prevention education and awareness. In the months leading up to the event, Trisha dedicated herself to training with the PAL Boxing Program at the Redding Teen Center, all while fundraising to support youth and family services throughout Shasta County.

On the night of the event, Trisha entered the ring backed by the strength and support of her Tribe and community. Her determination and preparation were evident as she secured an impressive victory in the second round.

We are incredibly proud of Trisha for representing Redding Rancheria with courage, heart, and a deep commitment to giving back. Her efforts not only brought awareness to an important cause but also helped raise meaningful support for the children and families of Shasta County.

Family Fit Day

The Redding Rancheria Family Fit event was a tremendous success, bringing together families from across the community for a day full of energy, laughter, and connection.

Hosted at NorCal Elite Gymnastics, the event gave attendees the chance to explore the gym and enjoy a wide variety of engaging activities designed for all ages. From bouncing and playing in the gym space to experiencing the excitement of Foamchella bubbles, there was no shortage of fun throughout the day.

Families also cooled off with refreshing snow cones, added a bit of sparkle with glitter tattoos, and gathered for an interactive and educational reptile show that was a hit with kids and adults alike. Each activity helped create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere where families could relax, connect, and enjoy quality time together.

Events like Family Fit highlight the importance of health, wellness, and community engagement. It was inspiring to see so many families come out to participate and make the day truly special.

Spring Win-Fit

One of the Wellness Program’s biggest challenges is our biannual Win Fit event. This event challenges employees to complete a 1.5-mile course featuring a variety of exercises along the beautiful Clear Creek Trail on the Redding Rancheria property. Starting at the Seasons patio and following the trail, participants push themselves through stations that include push-ups, sit ups, squats, and finally burpees as they make their way back to the starting point.

Our spring Win Fit event had a total of 109 participants, with 35 competitors representing locations across our organization. We also had the opportunity to partner with our Health Systems team, who provided a variety of refreshments to support fueling and hydration, making this a great way to connect our campuses.

At the end of the event, after all competitors have finished, we bring everyone together for a group walk along the entire trail. It is a great way for participants to continue enjoying the benefits of outdoor exercise, regardless of their pace.

We are excited for what is ahead as we prepare for our next Win Fit event in October.

Welcome Dr. Travis Bever

Redding Rancheria Trinity Health Center is pleased to welcome Travis Bever, PAC, who joined the team in November 2025. Travis is a board certified Physician Assistant and a recent graduate of the University of Colorado Physician Assistant Program, where he completed his studies in May 2025.

Originally from Colorado, Travis has recently made Trinity County his home. He brings a strong passion for both orthopedics and psychiatry, with a focus on helping patients feel stronger both physically and mentally. Travis is committed to creating a positive and approachable experience for every patient and enjoys working closely with individuals to support them in reaching their health goals.

Outside of his work in healthcare, Travis enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. His interests include ice hockey, camping, fishing, backpacking, and exploring new trails throughout the region.

RRTHS Welcomes Dr. Garnaas

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Garnaas, Neurology Provider, who joined the Redding Rancheria’s Center for Advanced Care Team on April 1st. She will be available one day per month, helping to expand access to specialized neurological care for our patients.

Dr. Garnaas brings years of experience in neurology, enhancing the level of care available within Center for Advanced Care. Her expertise supports our continued commitment to providing comprehensive services and improving access to specialty care for the community we serve.

We are excited to have Dr. Garnaas as part of the Center for Advanced Care team and look forward to the positive impact she will make for our patients.

For Miranda Edwards Favorite, the experience also brings memorable moments. She recalls her first day of work, when she and her mother unknowingly wore nearly identical outfits, leading to confusion throughout the day. It remains one of her favorite and most meaningful memories of working alongside family.

Tyler Edwards reflects on the comfort and support that comes from working with familiar faces, sharing that being surrounded by family helps make new environments feel welcoming and easier to navigate.

Employees Of The Month

We would like to congratulate Kristi Morales as our March 2026 Employee of the Month.

Kristi received this recognition for consistently going above and beyond to meet patients where they are. She demonstrates deep compassion for her patients and for those in recovery as a whole, reminding them that they have both a choice and a voice in their recovery journey.

For the past two years, Kristi has co facilitated recovery group therapy sessions, where her clinical growth and confidence in counseling skills have continued to flourish. She also fosters a warm, welcoming, and culturally rooted environment in the Two Red Road groups held each week. Even on her days off, she prioritizes the circle, ensuring it can take place for participants who consistently attend.

We are pleased to announce Sylvia Hammer as our April 2026 Employee of the Month for.

Sylvia continues to demonstrate exceptional dedication and teamwork in her role. She has played a key part in organizing the company store, helping ensure smooth and efficient operations. Her positive attitude and willingness to volunteer have not gone unnoticed, especially through her support at RRCF last month.

Following her recent promotion within the Finance Department, Sylvia has embraced new responsibilities with enthusiasm and professionalism. She has taken on the challenge of learning new tasks while also providing guidance and training to the new purchasing agent, exemplifying collaboration and leadership.
