Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Year 11 and Year 12 students have started their Final and Trial Examinations, respectively, and calm and quiet have descended on the Bondi Campus in the last two days as these students focus on the task. Next week is also the perfect time for the Year 10 students to go to Thredbo on their annual Ski Camp. We wish the senior students a calm examination period and the Year 10 students great snow, and remember; if you're not falling, you’re not learning.

Seminar Day for the Year 7 - Year 9 students was enjoyed by all, including the teachers who accompanied the students. Engaging in learning opportunities beyond the classroom is essential, and all of our desired outcomes for the day were met. The Year 9 Geographer's field trip to the Northern Beaches to collect primary data and analyse this to conclude the challenges and successes of coastal erosion management, the Year 8 trip to ANSTO to attain a greater understanding of nuclear energy, and the Year 7 students visiting the Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman Prize exhibitions at the Art Gallery of New South Wales will enhance their study of portraiture in Visual Arts for Term 3. The movie “12 Years a Slave” enabled our Year 9 History students to understand better the topic of human movement they are studying. All in all, it was a perfect day for our students.

The Year 9 Art Showcase made a welcome return to the Cultural Calendar on Thursday evening following a Covid hiatus. It was incredible for parents and friends to gather on the Woollahra rooftop to share refreshments and enjoy the fantastic artwork on display. Congratulations to the Art Department and the students for an enjoyable celebration of their creations.

I am very proud to share that our Middle School Dance Company achieved outstanding success at the DanceSpec Competition on Sunday. This competition is for Primary and High Schools from all over Sydney and is always filled with beautiful performances from tough competitors. Reddam entered the Jazz and Contemporary Year 7-9 sections this year and took first place in both. This is a remarkable achievement and a well-deserved result from our hard-working dancers. We couldn't be more proud. It's no easy feat to perform as an ensemble in a space that has yet to be rehearsed. It requires the students to band together as team members while maintaining strong dance technique and performance quality. Emily Knight has, as always, trained these dancers well, preparing them with beautiful choreography and

precise guidance. Congratulations to Maritsa Apostolopoulos, Tali Ereira, Siena Gilbert, Sophia Glass, Reuben Harvey-Dean, Elise Siboulet, Olive Begg, Ella Kirby, Alex Thatcher, and Tasha Rogoff.

Personal accolades this week go to:

Joah Hitter (Y12), who had raised funds for the Reddam International Community Service Project to Mozambique a couple of years ago, which was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, raised $600 for the community we intended to help. After some research, he donated the funds to an African Charity called 'Frontline Aids.’ Good job, Joah.

Sarah Mueller (Y9) competed in the Regional Finals of the Legacy Public Speaking on Monday after competing in and winning the local finals a few weeks ago. I am thrilled to say she was selected to move through to the State Semi-Finals, to be held at Parliament House on Friday, 15 September.

Aarav Daddikar (Y7) took part in a special media event for Cricket Australia on Monday.

He had the privilege of meeting and interacting with prominent cricketers, including Usman Khawaja, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and renowned Fox Cricket commentator Adam Gilchrist. Aarav will also be actively participating in an on-field activity involving cricket skills. We can’t wait to see you wearing the baggy green Aarav.

Have a good weekend and week ahead, Dave

Studio Recitals Week 5

We were thrilled to commence our Studio Recitals, with Adelaide Hall filled to the brim with parents and supporters. These recitals offer our students a unique chance to perform in a relaxed environment, specifically for their families.

The significance of these performances cannot be overstated. Performing in front of an audience, no matter how familiar, greatly enhances a musician's confidence. It allows them to manage stage nerves and perfect their craft in a live setting. Beyond the technical aspects, the act of performing is about forging a connection with listeners and conveying a narrative through music. Performing in front of loved ones serves as an excellent foundation, setting our students up for success in larger and more formal venues in the future.

This week showcased a rich variety of our school's musical talents. Mr Shirley impressed with percussion; Ms Ray captivated with her piano students; Ms Ehrlich's students showcased their vocal talents; and Mr Gordon-Newling enlivened the atmosphere with a variety of saxophone performances. The diversity of these recitals truly reflects the breadth of our school's musical output.

Kudos to our students who were evidently well-prepared for their moment in the spotlight. The dedication and effort they've invested into their rehearsals shone through brilliantly. We're eagerly anticipating more outstanding performances in the upcoming weeks.

2024 Musical Announcement

For those that missed last weeks announcement, next year's High School musical will be the classic crowd-pleaser The Music Man, which has recently concluded a record-breaking Broadway run starring Hugh Jackman. This golden comedy has a huge amount of roles and one of the all-time great scores. Watch a preview at this Link HERE.

The complete timeline for direct applications is available at https://www.anu.edu.au/study/apply/domestic-applications-anu-undergraduate/applying-to-anuapplication-details/application

Our general advice to all students who receive an offer in September is to ACCEPT all parts of their offer, including any accommodation and scholarship offers. Students have until Wednesday 4 October to accept their offers.

ANU

Accepting their September offer ensures it will be waiting for the student at the end of the year; students will be able to make their ultimate decisions (including accepting, enrolling or deferring) when final confirmations are made in December/January.

- ACADEMIC OFFERS: Accept the program you have been offered

o Change of preference will run from Wednesday 1 November – Monday 18 December

§ Some programs have an earlier closing date – please see the full application timeline for further details

o If you are changing your program preference, leave your accepted program on your preference list; you can drop this program down the list as needed

- ACCOMMODATION OFFERS: Accept the accommodation you have been offered, even if it was not your preferred location

o After acceptances close in October, students will be able to request a change of accommodation preference following instructions that will be sent via email

o Additional information about accommodation applications and timelines can be found at https://www.anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/accommodation-application-advice

- SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS: Accept any and all scholarships you have been offered

o Some students may be eligible for multiple scholarships; they should accept each award individually

o Students should be assured that they have been assessed and are deserving of the scholarships that they have been awarded

§ Each year, some students think there are more deserving students out there and reject/ignore scholarship offers; we encourage them NOT to do this and to accept any awards they receive

o Students should read the Conditions of Award for any scholarships they receive to make sure they meet any additional requirements and understand their rights & responsibilities.

Students will explore various topics such as tourist motivation, branding a destination, managing tourists, special interest tourism and crisis management. Updates & Resources

New single application for scholarships

Students can now complete one form to be considered for most scholarships at the University of Sydney*. High School students will need their most recent school report or HSC trial results, to answer self-reflective questions about their motivation to study and let us know what areas of study they’re considering. To be eligible for scholarships via this form, students must have a University of Sydney course in their UAC preferences by 29 September. They only need to complete the form once (unless their circumstances change) and upon successful completion will be considered for equity and/or meritbased scholarships depending on their circumstances.

Note, scholarships that have previously been awarded automatically (e.g. MySydney) will continue to be awarded automatically depending on a student’s eligibility. However, we still recommend students apply for scholarships using this form so they can be considered for as many as, and to the highest value, possible.

Apply now

* Some University of Sydney scholarships will still require individual application per scholarship. See sydney.edu.au/scholarships for a list of all scholarships, including terms and conditions.

Admission pathways and entry schemes

Our entry schemes help students make the most of their qualifications by recognising their circumstances, special achievements and other abilities and activities. Most of our entry schemes are currently open, with fast approaching application deadlines. To learn more and apply, students can visit the admission pathways webpage or email Sydney Future Students at admission.pathways@sydney.edu.au with questions.

New admission scheme: Regional and Remote Entry Scheme

The Regional and Remote Scheme – for domestic students residing in or attending a school in a regional or remote area – offers admission to a Sydney Uni undergraduate degree on a reduced ATAR.

Students are also encouraged to submit an application to be considered for scholarships through the University's new single scholarship application form. Applications close 29 September and students must also have the University of Sydney listed as a preference on this date. Please note: most accommodation scholarships still require a separate application through the relevant college website.

MySydney Entry and Scholarship Scheme

MySydney offers eligible students residing in a low socio-economic areas entry on a reduced ATAR, an $8,500 per annum scholarship for the duration of their undergraduate degree and additional support. Students simply submit a UAC application and list the University of Sydney as a preference. If the student is eligible, we will notify them via email on the dates listed on the MySydney website.

Early offers to study Music | Creative Arts Special Admission Scheme (CASAS)

Students seeking to apply for an early offer to study Music must register their audition or interview by 17 September. Music Theatre applicants must submit the part 1 video by 3 September. See the CASAS webpage for more info or visit our online portal to register.

UAC Applications

Applications are still steadily rolling in. Please remind students that to be considered for many highdemand courses, and to avoid a higher fee, they should lodge a UAC application before 29 September. If they wish to be considered for an SRS offer, both applications must be lodged by 18 September.

Many people ask about the benefits of applying through UAC compared to applying directly to an institution for an early offer, so here are a few key points:

• Not all courses are available for early offers.

• An early offer is not guaranteed.

• A UAC application provides more options for preferences.

• Students who have experienced difficulties/disadvantages in Year 11 or 12 can have their circumstances taken into account through an EAS application.

Students should make the most of their options and list different course preferences in their UAC application and their direct application. However, if they miss out on an early offer from a direct application they can add that course preference to their UAC application and compete for an offer based on their ATAR. The majority of students will be made an offer based on their ATAR and the hard work they have put into their Year 12 studies.

Preferences

While attending uni open days this year, the UAC Community Engagement team has answered many questions from students about how to list their preferences. In some cases a university has told them they need to list a course as their number one preference in order to receive an offer, but the course is not their first choice.

Students should always:

• place their dream course as their first preference

• include a back-up course as a lower preference.

And they should find out:

• the previous lowest selection ranks for the course – is it a realistic choice?

• if they are eligible for any adjustment factors.

Diploma in General Studies

Whether your students finished high school and are unsure of their next steps, or are already in the workforce and want to advance their career with additional qualifications, the 1-year Diploma in General Studies (DiGS) is a great pathway option.

DiGS students build the skills to achieve at university while living in a close-knit and supportive community at our Dookie campus near Shepparton. The diploma allows students to:

• Explore your study options before committing to a bachelors degree

• Gain guaranteed entry into a University of Melbourne bachelors degree

• Study prerequisite subjects missed in high school, including science, mathematics, business and environments

• Earn credit towards an undergraduate degree

• Access a range of scholarships to help you fund living expenses.

We also offer the Diploma in General Studies (Extended), an 18 month supported program for Indigenous students.

Reach out to your University representative to learn more about this qualification and how it can support your students' path into a Melbourne undergraduate degree.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND

UNE Courses for 2024 now open in UAC

We’ve recently opened applications for 2024 study through the Universities Admission Centre (UAC). New students can apply for over 50 on campus UNE bachelor degrees through UAC. Current year 12 students can also now add preference to their UAC application to be considered for the UAC Schools

Recommendation Scheme

Application via UAC

Other ways students can apply

School leavers possess a distinct advantage as they have several avenues through which they can apply to UNE. This not only increases their chances of being considered for a wide array of courses but also empowers them with multiple options, enabling them to select the most suitable course that aligns with their interests and aspirations.

In addition to UAC and SRS applications being open, current year 12 students can also apply for UNE Early Entry now or direct to UNE when application open.

UNE Early Entry – guarantees your students a place at university whether or not they're expecting to receive an ATAR score. Our 2024 Early Entry applications have been open since February and close on 15 September 2023.

By applying directly to UNE, students can get their offer before the release of Year 12 results, giving them certainty that no matter what happens, they will have a place at UNE.

If your students have applied for SRS via UAC they can also apply for another or different courses via UNE Early Entry.

Application via Early Entry

Direct application to UNE – current year 12 students wishing to study online in our bachelor degrees or in any of our diplomas, advanced diplomas or undergraduate certificates can also apply direct to UNE. There is no cost to apply online direct UNE. Students will need to apply in this way for courses where: they are relying on their academic merit (e.g their ATAR or other prior completion qualification/s) to gain entry into; or for UNE courses not available through Early Entry or SRS etc. Direct applications to study in 2024 are expected to open in August 2023

We have just seen the deadlines for Round 1 of Gateway Admissions Pathway, as well as Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer Scheme close. The teams are already underway with the assessments, ready for the offer release on Friday, 1 September 2023. However, both schemes are reopening for Round 2 on Saturday, 2 September 2023, in case any of your students missed out. For students who are elite athletes, our Elite Athletes Program and Scholarships are also now open for 2024 entry.

Excitingly, we have two brand new degrees launching for 2024 as well as two new majors within the Bachelor of Commerce. We have also redesigned our Bachelor of Science and Advanced Science programs, with an even greater focus on employability and student experience!

Introducing UNSW Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offers

We are excited to announce that for Term 1, 2024 onwards, domestic students who are successful in applying for the UNSW Portfolio Entry Scheme will be eligible for an Early Conditional Offer.

Portfolio Entry provides students applying for most Arts, Design & Architecture and Engineering degrees with the opportunity to showcase their passion and talent through a portfolio of work, alongside their ATAR.

What is a Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer?

Successful applicants will receive an early conditional offer which has an adjusted ATAR requirement up to 10 ATAR points below the lowest selection rank for a specific degree or range of related degrees.

If a student meets or exceeds the adjusted ATAR requirement for an eligible degree and lists this as their highest eligible preference in UAC for the specified UAC offer round, then they will be issued a firm offer to that degree.

For Term 1, 2024 entry, firm offers for Portfolio Entry will be issued in UAC December Round 2 (NSW and ACT applicants) and January Round 1 (Interstate and IB applicants).

When is the Deadline?

Submissions for Term 1, 2024 are already open, with early conditional offers released Friday, 1 September 2023.

A late round of Portfolio Entry applications will open Saturday, 2 September 2023 and close on Wednesday, 22 November 2023. Late round early conditional offers will be released on Friday, 8 December 2023.Find out more
