Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The Year 9 Art students enjoyed the inaugural Retreat to Chowder Bay and Cockatoo Island. The retreat was a blend of hands-on workshops and inspiring explorations that immersed everyone in the world of creativity. From mastering the delicate strokes of coloured pencils to capturing the essence of landscapes through drawing, our students delved into artistic techniques. Design and collage workshops sparked innovative ideas, while photography and architectural investigations unveiled new perspectives on the world around them.

A highlight of the retreat was the chartered ferry trip across the iconic Sydney Harbour to Cockatoo Island. The picturesque journey set the stage for a day of discovery amidst the island's industrial heritage. The foreshores of Sydney Harbour at Clifton Gardens provided the perfect backdrop for beachside workshops. The collaboration took centre stage as students mingled with fellow creative minds, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of artistic exchange. Our budding artists engaged in exhilarating rounds of art trivia, putting their knowledge to the test and adding a playful twist to their creative journey. Thanks to the Art teachers who organized such a wonderful experience for our students.

Inspired Education, under whose umbrella Reddam falls, is conducting Parent Surveys in all one hundred of their schools worldwide. This survey was sent home on Monday, and the results will be collated next Friday. If you still need to complete this survey, I have included the link: Parent Survey

I am always proud of our students who are involved in community service projects, and the following students are thanked for their contribution to the kids giving back program.

Tyler Chen, Aiden Quinlan of Year 7, and Leila Lewis of Year 8.

If more students want to get involved in 'giving back,' the following opportunities exist for the upcoming holiday. School holiday programs | Kids Giving Back

The HSC Music recital, which clashed with the Matildas semi-final match, was moved to an earlier start so parents and students could enjoy both events. It was an incredible evening to hear each Music1, Music 2, or Music extension student perform at least one of their pieces. The Music 2 compositions for a string quartet were so impressive. To be witnessing original music performed for our Year 12 composers is pretty special. They are well and truly on track for their Final Practical Examinations on the 12th, 13th, and 14th of September.

Congratulations to the Music teachers and students on what was a magnificent evening.

We were incredibly proud to receive 95 entries into this year's Composition Competition, with pieces of varying styles - contemporary songs, film scores, chamber music, electronic music, and everything in between - composed and submitted for consideration. Our adjudicator was esteemed composer Luis Saglie from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (read more here), who was moved and heartened by the quality and breadth of Reddam's entries, and the students' apparent interest in writing original music. Please see below for a video from the adjudicator announcing the results, which are also printed below.

This week our Middle School students continued their search for a mysterious panther seen lurking in the Australian bush and missing Little Troopers Stanley and Bradley, who wandered from the campsite late at night. Will Dani and her fellow Little Troopers find Stanley and Bradley or will the panther find them first?

The upcoming production of 'Scaredy-Cat' will be presented at the Bondi Pavilion on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th October 2023. Tickets will go on sale later this term.

2024 Musical Announcement

This golden comedy has a huge amount of roles and one of the all-time great scores. Watch a preview at this Link HERE.

Sydney Conservatorium Visit Inspires Year 12 Students

In a remarkable experience this week, some of our Year 12 students had the privilege to visit the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music for an eye-opening tour of the university, as well as to observe two Vocal Performance classes featuring current vocal students, led by the renowned Australian Baritone, Barry Ryan.

Our students were thrilled to run into Reddam alumni Jack Futcher and Gabriel Jones, who are current voice students at the conservatorium, and in a wonderful moment of pride for the Reddam community, 2021 graduate Nicole Geller took the stage and astounded the audience with her performance. Her rich soprano tone and impeccable German diction earned praise from both students and lecturer alike. Her outstanding performance is a testament to her current voice teacher Dr Anke Ryan, the Unit of Study Coordinator for Undergraduate Voice at the conservatorium.

For singers Lili Ogrin and Coco Veksner-Shaw, who eagerly await their HSC Music 2 and Extension performances in the weeks ahead, the visit provided a valuable insight into the world of tertiary vocal studies and offered an opportunity to envision a possible path for their future careers. Meanwhile, Natalie Townsend, who has already received an early offer to study composition, enjoyed a sneak peek into the inspirational building and the array of opportunities it has to offer.

This visit was an unforgettable experience which has ignited a spark in our students to continue pursuing their musical passions, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the coming years. Best of luck to Lili, Coco, and Natalie in their upcoming HSC Music exams!

ANU

ANU DIRECT APPLICATION TIMELINE

Offers for ANU Direct Applicants for 2024 entry will be released on Monday 4 September 2023.

The complete timeline for direct applications is available at https://www.anu.edu.au/study/apply/domestic-applications-anu-undergraduate/applying-to-anuapplication-details/application

Our general advice to all students who receive an offer in September is to ACCEPT all parts of their offer, including any accommodation and scholarship offers. Students have until Wednesday 4 October to accept their offers.

Accepting their September offer ensures it will be waiting for the student at the end of the year; students will be able to make their ultimate decisions (including accepting, enrolling or deferring) when final confirmations are made in December/January.

- ACADEMIC OFFERS: Accept the program you have been offered

o Change of preference will run from Wednesday 1 November – Monday 18 December

§ Some programs have an earlier closing date – please see the full application timeline for further details

o If you are changing your program preference, leave your accepted program on your preference list; you can drop this program down the list as needed

- ACCOMMODATION OFFERS: Accept the accommodation you have been offered, even if it was not your preferred location

o After acceptances close in October, students will be able to request a change of accommodation preference following instructions that will be sent via email

o Additional information about accommodation applications and timelines can be found at https://www.anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/accommodation-application-advice

- SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS: Accept any and all scholarships you have been offered

o Some students may be eligible for multiple scholarships; they should accept each award individually

o Students should be assured that they have been assessed and are deserving of the scholarships that they have been awarded

§ Each year, some students think there are more deserving students out there and reject/ignore scholarship offers; we encourage them NOT to do this and to accept any awards they receive

o Students should read the Conditions of Award for any scholarships they receive to make sure they meet any additional requirements and understand their rights & responsibilities.

New single application for scholarships

Students can now complete one form to be considered for most scholarships at the University of Sydney*. High School students will need their most recent school report or HSC trial results, to answer self-reflective questions about their motivation to study and let us know what areas of study they’re considering. To be eligible for scholarships via this form, students must have a University of Sydney course in their UAC preferences by 29 September. They only need to complete the form once (unless their circumstances change) and upon successful completion will be considered for equity and/or meritbased scholarships depending on their circumstances.

Note, scholarships that have previously been awarded automatically (e.g. MySydney) will continue to be awarded automatically depending on a student’s eligibility. However, we still recommend students apply for scholarships using this form so they can be considered for as many as, and to the highest value, possible.

* Some University of Sydney scholarships will still require individual application per scholarship. See sydney.edu.au/scholarships for a list of all scholarships, including terms and conditions

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND

UNE Courses for 2024 now open in UAC

We’ve recently opened applications for 2024 study through the Universities Admission Centre (UAC). New students can apply for over 50 on campus UNE bachelor degrees through UAC. Current year 12 students can also now add preference to their UAC application to be considered for the UAC Schools

Recommendation Scheme

Application via UAC

Other ways students can apply

School leavers possess a distinct advantage as they have several avenues through which they can apply to UNE. This not only increases their chances of being considered for a wide array of courses but also empowers them with multiple options, enabling them to select the most suitable course that aligns with their interests and aspirations.

In addition to UAC and SRS applications being open, current year 12 students can also apply for UNE Early Entry now or direct to UNE when application open.

UNE Early Entry – guarantees your students a place at university whether or not they're expecting to receive an ATAR score. Our 2024 Early Entry applications have been open since February and close on 15 September 2023.

By applying directly to UNE, students can get their offer before the release of Year 12 results, giving them certainty that no matter what happens, they will have a place at UNE.

If your students have applied for SRS via UAC they can also apply for another or different courses via UNE Early Entry.

Application via Early Entry

Direct application to UNE – current year 12 students wishing to study online in our bachelor degrees or in any of our diplomas, advanced diplomas or undergraduate certificates can also apply direct to UNE. There is no cost to apply online direct UNE. Students will need to apply in this way for courses where: they are relying on their academic merit (e.g their ATAR or other prior completion qualification/s) to gain entry into; or for UNE courses not available through Early Entry or SRS etc. Direct applications to study in 2024 are expected to open in August 2023

We have just seen the deadlines for Round 1 of Gateway Admissions Pathway, as well as Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer Scheme close. The teams are already underway with the assessments, ready for the offer release on Friday, 1 September 2023. However, both schemes are reopening for Round 2 on Saturday, 2 September 2023, in case any of your students missed out. For students who are elite athletes, our Elite Athletes Program and Scholarships are also now open for 2024 entry.

Excitingly, we have two brand new degrees launching for 2024 as well as two new majors within the Bachelor of Commerce. We have also redesigned our Bachelor of Science and Advanced Science programs, with an even greater focus on employability and student experience!

Introducing UNSW Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offers

We are excited to announce that for Term 1, 2024 onwards, domestic students who are successful in applying for the UNSW Portfolio Entry Scheme will be eligible for an Early Conditional Offer.

Portfolio Entry provides students applying for most Arts, Design & Architecture and Engineering degrees with the opportunity to showcase their passion and talent through a portfolio of work, alongside their ATAR.

What is a Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer?

Successful applicants will receive an early conditional offer which has an adjusted ATAR requirement up to 10 ATAR points below the lowest selection rank for a specific degree or range of related degrees.

If a student meets or exceeds the adjusted ATAR requirement for an eligible degree and lists this as their highest eligible preference in UAC for the specified UAC offer round, then they will be issued a firm offer to that degree.

For Term 1, 2024 entry, firm offers for Portfolio Entry will be issued in UAC December Round 2 (NSW and ACT applicants) and January Round 1 (Interstate and IB applicants).

When is the Deadline?

Submissions for Term 1, 2024 are already open, with early conditional offers released Friday, 1 September 2023.

A late round of Portfolio Entry applications will open Saturday, 2 September 2023 and close on Wednesday, 22 November 2023. Late round early conditional offers will be released on Friday, 8 December 2023.Find out more
