Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Today Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day. The success of our school is built entirely on the great love and passion our teachers have for the subjects they teach and the students they have in their care. They are making a difference in the lives of our students every day. I’m sure the Reddam community would join me in taking this opportunity to thank and praise our Reddam teachers for the fantastic job they do with their children.
There was much excitement at the Bondi Campus this week as the long-awaited renovations to the Bondi Learning Centre commenced after receiving the construction certificate from the Waverley Council. Plans are such that builders, Stephen Edwards, and project managers, The Midson Group, will deliver four completed classrooms to the school for the start of the new year with the rest of the renovations being completed by the end of the first term. We all look forward to the upgrade of our current campus and the renovation of the Learning Centre.
On Sunday the school hosted the 5th Annual TEDxYouth@Reddamhouse event in Adelaide Hall. Congratulations to our team of students under the curatorship of Quinn Luu. This group of Year 9 and 10 students put together a world-class lineup of speakers and organised another fantastic event. Congratulations and thank you for all the hard work that went into once again making this a highlight on the Reddam calendar. Additional images on page 3.
In the first round of the International Debating Competition, our students did well winning two of their three debates. The topic: That the government should cease space programs eg NASA, was hotly debated with Mr. Guan commenting “what was more important than the win was that every student was very professional and showed great debating etiquette and respect to their oppositions and the adjudicator.” Great start debaters, well done.
The Elective Music Recital for students who have selected Music as a subject in Years 9, 10, and 11 was a wonderful evening for these students to perform some of the work that they have been working on in class for an audience. This was backed up by a wide variety of solo performances as students start honing their repertoire. What was so appreciated by all in attendance was the obvious fun, enjoyment, and camaraderie that the Music students have. Congratulations to our Music teachers for creating an environment wherein this creativity, trust, and teamwork can flourish. A complete spread of photo’s are on pages 4 and 5.
This week was the penultimate week of HSC Exams for our Year 12 students. Maths Extension 1 and Geography were written on Monday, Business Studies and English Extension 1 on Tuesday, Chinese and Literature and History Extension on Wednesday, a rare free day for our students on Thursday, and Biology written on Friday. I’m sure that they can’t wait for these to be over next Thursday. They will be celebrating their completion as a cohort at their Formal on Monday 7th November. Parents, teachers, and students are invited to Pre-Formal drinks on the Woollahra Rooftop. Thereafter the students depart to enjoy their last school function at the Beta Bar Grand Ballroom. I’m sure they can’t wait. @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter
