On top of that, students have been finalising their individual submitted composition projects for their HSC, each having been workshopped and eventually recorded by professional musicians. The process is rewarding for the students who are able to learn from feedback from the performers right up to this final stage, making their last adjustments to the music to create thoughtful pieces, idiomatically written for the intended instruments. These scores and recordings will be submitted to the external examiners and will form part of the students' HSC Music mark. This year we had 7 String Quartets, a String Trio featuring Classical Guitar, a duet for Tenor Saxophone and Piano, a trio for Piano, Flute and Electric Bass, and a Saxophone Quartet with Vibraphone. Star of the week definitely goes to Sophia Glasson who together with her teammates, won the Silver Medal of Junior Women's Foil Team at Commonwealth Fencing Championships 2022 in London. In the key semi-final against Canada, the Canadians were leading 15:9 after three bouts when Sophia took the piste and stormed a 10-point performance to bring the scores even at 19:19. In her 3rd bout in the team bouts, she presented another convincing performance of 6:1, stretching Australian' team lead from 2 points to 7 points, paving a solid way for victory, beating Canada 45:37. She also fenced individual events in Senior Women's Foil and Junior Women's Foil, finishing 11th (2nd highest ranking among all Australian fencers) and 6th (highest ranking among Australian fencers) respectively, very promising and consistent performance from a 14-year-old. Congratulations Sophia, we are exceptionally proud of your achievements.
