Dee’s Message

14 October 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers, It is wonderful to welcome back all our families to the final term of 2022. We hope that all the children had a fantastic break, whether at home, travelling, or being part of the fun-filled Holiday Care programme. The teachers and I can’t wait to make the most of this term and I know that they all have a host of innovative and enjoyable activities lined up for the children. Next week sees the fifth Early Learning Matters Week being celebrated across the country. Organised by Early Childhood Australia, the week is an important way of refocusing our attention on the critical role which effective early childhood education plays in laying the foundations for children across the country. This year’s theme is ‘Learning through play’, which is a useful reminder that play is central

to all learning in the early years. As the organisers of the Week remind us, “When children have inclusive, positive and rich early learning experiences, they are more likely to go on to become successful learners, with high levels of wellbeing.” As I reflect on the year thus far, I am grateful to our teachers who have ensured that the environment in their classes is indeed “inclusive, positive and rich”. Countless opportunities exist for the children to explore, create and develop their own unique personalities. Whether learning through play in the classroom or outdoors, the scope is endless, particularly as the Provocations which the teachers come up with each term offer open-ended encouragement for individual exploration. It is fascinating to see each child respond in his or her own way to these stimuli, as they make the learning experience their own. And all of this through the medium of play.
