ADMIRAL LISA M. FRANCHETTI, CNO
UNITED STATES NAVY (RETIRED)
A native of Pittsford, New York, Lisa Franchetti is an experienced military leader, global strategist, and national security expert. She most recently served as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), retiring in March 2025 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service to the Nation. As the Navy’s senior military officer and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Franchetti advised the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Navy, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on national security matters. She ensured the Navy’s over 600,000 Sailors and Civilians were ready to execute the maritime service’s mission in peace, crisis, and war.
Known for her visionary leadership, Franchetti focused the Navy on warfighting, warfighters, and building the foundation needed to support both. As CNO, she mobilized the Navy to meet the threat posed by the People’s Republic of China through her 2024 Navigation Plan for America’s Warfighting Navy. She drove efforts to grow the size of the Navy’s Fleet, integrate robotic and autonomous systems, improve shipyard maintenance performance, resolve manpower and infrastructure challenges, modernize command and control centers, and improve quality of life for Sailors, Navy Civilians, and their families. A people-focused leader, she cultivated a culture of excellence across the Navy that delivered historic levels of recruiting and retention.
A 1985 graduate of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Franchetti was commissioned through the NROTC program at a time when roles for women in the military were constrained by the Combat Exclusion Act and limited to non-combatant ships and aircraft in the Navy. When Congress repealed that law in 1993, she was among the first women to serve on combatants and went on to lead at every level. With nearly 20 years of at-sea experience, Franchetti commanded USS Ross, Destroyer Squadron 21, US Naval Forces in Korea, two Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups, US SIXTH Fleet, and Striking and Support Forces NATO. Ashore, as a Flag Officer she served as the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Force Development (N-7), the Director, Strategy, Plans and Policy on the Joint Staff (J-5), and the 42nd Vice Chief of Naval Operations. Franchetti holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. She completed Harvard Kennedy School’s National and International Security Program and was an MIT Seminar XXI Fellow. She is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, was awarded the Northwestern Alumni Medal in 2019, received the Naval War College Distinguished Graduate Award in 2024, was inducted into the Medill School of Journalism Hall of Achievement in 2024, and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by Northwestern University in 2025.
Humanitarian Award Honoree
GIOVANNA MILLER
Giovanna Miller has been a very engaged and passionate volunteer leader and supporter of the American Red Cross for over 15 years. She led the Metro New York North (MNYN) Chapter of the American Red Cross as board chair for seven years, raising nearly $18 million during her tenure.
Giovanna is deeply committed to the Red Cross mission, vision, and values, and is an especially strong advocate for Service to the Armed Forces. She began her Red Cross journey as a member of the Red & White Ball committee, which she later chaired.
Giovanna also co-chaired the chapter’s PreResponder campaign, which was tasked to raise $3 million for renovation of the Greenwich headquarters building while adding a fixed blood center to the space. She is a member of the Tiffany Circle, a group of philanthropic women leaders in the Red Cross.
While on the Board, Giovanna expanded support for the Red Cross’ mission and continued the growth of the chapter. Additionally, she raised the public’s awareness of the Red Cross locally and across the country. Giovanna has hosted many events for the Red Cross, including an Anniversary Celebration to recognize 100 years of the American Red Cross in Greenwich, Conn.
Giovanna’s passion for military families has resulted in her leading several local and international initiatives to provide hands on support for military based at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. She was one of only a few without a military background to sit on the Service to the Armed Forces/International Services (SAF/IS) National Advisory Committee, under the leadership of Koby Langley, former Senior Vice President for SAF/IS at the American Red Cross.
Giovanna gives generously of her time, talent and treasure and has gained the respect of her peers, as well as building strong partnerships with the entire region and national organization. She had been instrumental in keeping the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in our chapter as strong advocate for SAF/IS and continues to support the MNYN chapter as Chair Emeritus.
Corporate Leadership Honorees
The American Red Cross is honored to present the 2026 Corporate Leadership Award to the Crabtree Family and Crabtree Motor Group, a family-owned and operated network of dealerships with deep roots across Connecticut. With locations in Milford, Watertown, Middlebury, and East Haven, Crabtree Motor Group has earned a reputation for excellence in automotive sales and service, offering one of the largest new and pre-owned inventories in the state. As they proudly say, “You don’t just get a better deal, you get a better dealership.”
Beyond their business success, the Crabtree Family is distinguished by their unwavering commitment to community. Their support extends far beyond their showroom doors, strengthening neighborhoods from Greenwich to Greater New Haven and throughout the region. Whether partnering with local nonprofits, investing in youth programs, or stepping forward during emergencies, the Crabtree Family consistently demonstrates a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve—leading with generosity, compassion, and a genuine dedication to helping their neighbors thrive.

A family-owned and operated network of dealerships with deep roots across Connecticut, including locations in Milford, Watertown, Middlebury, and East Haven, Crabtree Motor Group has earned a reputation for excellence in automotive sales and service, offering one of the largest new and pre-owned inventories in the state. Beyond their business success, the Crabtree Family is distinguished by their unwavering commitment to community. Whether partnering with local nonprofits, investing in youth programs, or stepping forward during emergencies, the Crabtree Family consistently demonstrates a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve – leading with generosity, compassion, and a genuine dedication to helping their neighbors thrive.
Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti, United States Navy (Retired), is honored with the Exceptional Service Award. A native of Pittsford, New York, Admiral Franchetti retired in 2025 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service to the Navy and the Nation. She most recently served as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, advising senior leaders on national security matters and ensuring the readiness of more than 600,000 Sailors and Civilians worldwide. A pioneer for women in the military, she was among the first to serve on combatant ships and went on to command at every level, including destroyers, carrier strike groups, U.S. SIXTH Fleet, and NATO forces. Throughout her career, she drove efforts to grow the Navy’s fleet, integrate advanced technologies, modernize infrastructure, and improve quality of life for service members and their families.
Giovanna Miller is honored with the Humanitarian Award. For more than 15 years, she has been a passionate leader and advocate for the American Red Cross. As board chair of the Metro New York North Chapter for seven years, she helped raise nearly $18 million and spearheaded initiatives that strengthened the chapter’s impact. She co-chaired the PreResponder campaign, securing $3 million to renovate headquarters and establish a fixed blood center, and has championed Service to the Armed Forces through hands-on support for military families locally and abroad. A proud member of the Tiffany Circle, she has hosted milestone events, including the celebration of 100 years of the Red Cross in Greenwich, and served on the SAF/IS National Advisory Committee. Her generosity has earned her the respect of peers and strengthened partnerships across the region and beyond.
Congratulations to the American Red Cross Metro NY North Chapter for its immeasurable contributions to our community, and to the honorees for their well-deserved recognition.
Kind regards,
Shelley B. Mayer

Dear Friends of The American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter,
On behalf of the New York State Assembly, I am delighted to honor The American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter on the occasion of its 2026 Red & White Ball.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies, by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Headquartered in New York City, the Greater New York Region chapter serves over 12 million people in New York City, on Long Island, in Rockland and Westchester counties and in Greenwich, Connecticut. The organization has done a great job of responding to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region, providing shelter, food, clothing, and emotional support at no cost to those in need.
The work of extraordinary members of the community, as well as local organizations, provide essential support that allows The American Red Cross Metro NY North Chapter to uphold its mission. Therefore, in celebration of their commitment to honor heroes in the community who rise above tremendous obstacles to help others, it is my great pleasure to recognize this year’s honorees, Giovanna Miller, who is receiving the Humanitarian Award, Crabtree Motor Group, which is receiving the Corporate Leadership Award, and Admiral Lisa M. Dear Supporters of the American Red Cross,
In times of need, whether they are natural disasters, vital supply shortages or any other emergencies, we can always count on the American Red Cross (ARC) being there on the ground ready to assist anyone who needs help. The ARC has been an integral part of the fabric of Greenwich since its founding in 1881.
Through the hard work of its dedicated staff and an equally hard -working support network, the Metro New York North chapter of the ARC answers the calls for assistance day after day and year after year. We in the Town of Greenwich salute their efforts , including providing more than half of the nation’s blood supply, international humanitarian aid, supporting the members of our military and their families and delivering food, shelter and emotional support to the victims of tragedies and disasters. This is why American Presidents have, for more than the past century, encouraged the people of the United States to support the American Red Cross’ never ending mission to offer humanitarian aid to people near and far.
I want to offer a heartfelt Greenwich thank you to all who continue to support the mission of the American Red Cross with their efforts, energy and enthusiasm. People like this year’s ball co-chairs Tatiana Fabiani, Sophie Bosch de Hood and William Hood as well as all of those who are furthering the mission of the American Red Cross through their support of the 202 6 Red & White Ball: A Salute to Service and Valor.
Congratulations to Admiral Lisa M. Fanchetti, U.S. Navy (Retired) for all her decades of service to our country for receiving the Exceptional Service Award and the Crabtree Motor Group and Crabtree Family for the Corporate Leadership Award .
Congratulations also go out to Greenwich resident Giovanna Miller who is a very de serving recipient of the Humanitarian Award. Giovanna has been board chair of the Metro New York North Chapter here in Greenwich for seven years and her commitment to her community and the American Red Cross has been unwavering. She has given so much to help others and she serves as a great example for the community, inspiring more people to get involved and give back.
Have fun and enjoy the ball!
