Frederick County Parks and Recreation, alongside with Docs in the Park, is encouraging exciting, unique, and FREE opportunities to experience the outdoors and be active with your friends and family while discovering and enjoying fitness and fun in our parks and win cool prizes! Mysterious and mischievous leprechauns have hidden gold in a few of our parks! This self-guided treasure hunt requires only a sturdy pair of shoes and your sense of adventure. Families can enjoy a relaxed one on one visit with the Easter Bunny with lower noise, no long lines and gentle lighting. For the week leading up to Easter, you can find the golden egg. One golden egg will contain a special prize! But don’t worry, all eggs will contain a smaller prize to find as well! This hunt highlights our accessible trails within Frederick County Parks and will only be found within those trails. In partnership with Frederick County Public Libraries, this event invites families to get up close to over a dozen big vehicles, climb inside, take photos, and meet the operators who use these machines every day. Event Highlights: Explore fire trucks, construction vehicles, utility trucks, and more. Meet the professionals who drive and operate the vehicles. This year's theme is Casino Royale! In Partnership with “Our Dream Pursuits”, get ready to dance the night away at our Adaptive Prom! Put on your suit or your favorite dress, do your makeup and your hair and come have the opportunity to experience Prom! Dance the night away with our DJ, enjoy light refreshments, play a variety of games and snap a picture at our photo booth. Caregivers are welcome with free entry. Calling all superheroes! Join us for a fun filled adventure where kids can test their super skills at interactive stations inspired by the powers of popular superheroes. Ballenger Creek Park

Designed for ages 3-7, your child will have a blast running their very own “triathlon”, and you will have even more fun cheering them on! Just like a traditional triathlon, kids will start off pedaling their way through the bike course, they will then transition to the running portion and will conclude their triathlon with a “swim” (actually a dash through a water obstacle course!) as they head to the finish line to receive their medal. Every participant is REQUIRED to bring a bike (tricycles accepted too) and a helmet for this event. Each participant will receive an official Mighty Kids Triathlon T-Shirt and Medal. Parents don’t forget to bring your cameras and video cameras - you won’t want to miss out on catching that award winning moment.

Join us for an outdoor movie night at Snook Family Agricultural Area in recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, Mental Health Awareness Month and Disability Pride Month! Public Safety Training Facility

The Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services is partnering with Frederick County Parks and Recreation to offer Junior Firefighter Academy. This program will provide participants with a close-up look at what is means to be a firefighter here in Frederick County. Throughout the day, attendees will go through a variety of hands-on activity stations including, home escape planning, physical fitness training, dressing in turnout gear, touch a truck opportunities, and much more. Participants should be prepared to be outdoors the whole time. Program will take place at Public Safety Training Facility. Program #39340

JUNIOR DEPUTY DAY

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Frederick County Parks and Recreation to offer a Junior Deputy Academy for the children of Frederick County. This 4 hour program provides kids ages 5-11 with a close-up look at Law Enforcement and tools of the trade. Children will have the opportunity to learn what it is like to be a police officer by participating in hands on activities and having a chance to see equipment and watching a K-9 demonstration. Participants will learn about evidence collection, bicycle safety, physical fitness, and other important topics. Participants must be prepared to be outdoors the entire time. Program #38264

Rose Hill Manor Park & Museum | All Ages Commemorate America's 250th through a series of new exhibits and themed programing that will explore the legacy of the American Revolution. The In Search of Freedom exhibit opens April 2, 2026, inviting visitors to consider the meanings of freedom, through the stories of the inhabitants of Rose Hill & Frederick County. Join us throughout the year as the Seed to Harvest Barn opens in Summer 2026 and the new Carriage Museum debuts in Fall 2026—each offering unique ways to explore how various events have impacted and shaped the idea of freedom.

OVERTIME GRIND SPRING TIP OFF

Spring Tip-Off is where players get ready for their next level of basketball. Each 90 minute session combines high energy skill training and competitive team player, giving athletes the full “season experience” in 6 weeks. Players start with a combine-style evaluation get drafted onto teams, and compete each week through themed sessions that emphasize teamwork, IQ, and confidence. No class April 9th for Spring Break

The perfect opportunity for young players to learn cricket fundamentals in a fun, supportive setting. Through ageappropriate activities, kids learn how to hold the bat, bowl the ball, run between the wickets, and fielding. All skill building activities are age appropriate. Teamwork, communication and sportsmanship are instilled in game play. Open to all elementary school kids who are interested in learning to play cricket. TODDLIN TYKES OPEN GYM

Come have fun with your toddler at our open gym playtime! Each week, we'll set up developmentally appropriate stations for you and your little one to explore at your own pace. Stay for as long as you’d like and enjoy a variety of activities, including basketball, tee ball, soccer, running, and throwing! An adult must accompany the child. An attendant will be on hand to assist, but our activities will be self-guided. Infants in carriers are welcome at no cost.

EXPLORING SPORTS

This active class introduces participants to a variety of sports by focusing on fundamental skills like catching, throwing, kicking, and more. Each week features a different sport, along with exciting drills and games designed to build coordination, confidence, and a love for physical activity. Participants will focus on a new sport each week. All equipment is provided. For our toddlerfriendly classes (ages 2-3.5), we encourage parents to actively join in to help keep their little ones engaged and involved.

BABY STEPS AND COFFEE CHATS

Sip, chat, and play! This relaxed, social program offers little ones a safe and engaging space to move, explore, and play while parents connect and unwind. Babies and toddlers will enjoy open play in the gym with soft play equipment, balls, tunnels, and music to encourage movement. A self-serve coffee bar will be available for parents to enjoy while chatting and building community with other parents. It's the perfect blend of playtime for little ones and connection time for grown-ups.

The art of skateboarding develops muscles, balance, and coordination through continued movement and can be done as safely as riding a bike. Your child's skateboarding experience will consist of: 1) learning skateboarding skills and tricks and building on those skills; 2) skate-a-long time with our experienced skaters who will provide mentoring and motivation; and, 3) supervised free skate time with other children. Class concentrates on full-body sculpting exercises with strong focus on conditioning, form, control and balance - different exercise options and variations will be offered to students to modify and/or challenge the body. Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flow is a practice where postures or Asanas are connected through the breath for a trans-formative and balancing effect. Each posture builds from one to the next with the pace of the breath. During this program, your 30 - 36 month old child will practice skills that will help him/her prepare for preschool. We will focus on separating from a caregiver, turn-taking with peers, following directions in a group, imitating actions during circle time and having fun with friends. Our daily schedule includes free play, circle time, art, movement, snack and story time. This inclusive group is taught by staff from the Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program. Caregivers are required to stay on the premises. Please only register for one session as space is limited. STORYTIME EXPLORERS

Storytime Explorers invites preschoolers on an adventure through books, imagination, and hands-on activities. ECOLOGY CLUB: FOUNTAIN ROCK NATURE CENTER

The Ecology Club is a service-based program for youth ages 12-17 who are passionate about nature and want to make a meaningful impact in their community. This club chapter, centered at Fountain Rock Nature Center, focuses on environmental stewardship and outdoor education through hands on projects that support and enhance the center’s outdoor classroom and surrounding trails. Participants will take part in conservation efforts such as removing invasive plant species, planting and caring for native vegetation, and maintaining trails. These activities support local wildlife and help keep the outdoor classroom safe, attractive, and more accessible to visitors of all ages. Along the way, teens will gain hands-on experience in land management, build a deeper understanding of local ecosystems, and develop leadership, teamwork, and a strong ethic of environmental stewardship. Hours served in this program may count toward Student Service Learning (SSL) hours required by your middle or high school. Check with your SSL Coordinator for approval. Whether you are interested in ecology, enjoy working outdoors, or want to give back to a place that serves others, the Ecology Club at Fountain Rock Nature Center offers a rewarding opportunity to grow, serve, and make a difference. INTO THE WOODS: SPRING BREAK TEEN HIKE

Get ready to hit the trail! Teens ages 12-16 are invited to explore Catoctin Mountain Park (4/7) and Gambrill State Park (4/9). Please bring a backpack with a non-perishable packed with a lunch, snacks, and water. Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Teens are welcome to bring their cellphones for photos and to learn what applications can be useful for plant and bird identification! This program will meet at the Thurmont Recreation Center at 10am and includes transportation to and from the hike. The group will return to the Thurmont Recreation Center at 3pm.

Looking for something beyond the usual after school routine? Adventure Games is all about action, teamwork, and fun! Each week, middle schoolers dive into high energy games like dodgeball, capture the flag, ultimate 4 square, and ultimate frisbee, along with team challenges like tug of war. We’ll also mix in some more traditional sports like pickleball, volleyball, and more! This program is designed to get kids moving, working together, and having fun in a supportive, active environment! Students will sign themselves in and out, making it easy to head straight to the gym right after school.

Frederick County Parks and Recreation (FCPR) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and guests. As a participant in our programs, you agree to:

1. Treat all parties involved with dignity and respect.

2. Recognize FCPR programming as a privilege that can be retracted for the greater good.

3. Use appropriate language, tones and volume when communicating. Angry or vulgar language including swearing, name calling or shouting is prohibited.

4. Become knowledgeable, understanding and supportive of all established guidelines, rules, policies and procedures applicable to the related activity.

5. Aggressive behavior, verbal or physical intimidation/abuse, and violence are prohibited. Physical contact with another person in a threatening way is prohibited. Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or menacing behavior is prohibited.

6. Theft, vandalism or behavior that results in the damage/destruction of property is prohibited.

7. Carrying or concealing any weapons, devices or objects that may or could be used as a weapon is prohibited.

8. Using or possessing illegal chemicals/ substances on FCPR property, or at FCPRsponsored activities.

9. Alcohol/Tobacco products are strictly prohibited on FCPS school property.

10. Inappropriate, threatening or offensive displays/conduct is prohibited.
