Residents could decide fate of projects totaling $17M By Michael Savino Special to The Citizen

Residents could be asked later this month to approve nearly $17 million in projects, although the town expects to offset nearly two-thirds of that with grants and other reimbursements.

First Selectman Michael Freda said the town’s share of the cost for all the projects would be just $5.9 million. The Board of Finance unanimously agreed to recommend the seven projects durings its Aug. 16 meeting. The items now go to the Board of Selectmen, who will vote at their

Sept. 7 meeting on whether to send the projects to voters at a town meeting. Freda said that meeting could happen on Sept. 18, laying out plans for seven projects before the finance board’s vote.

$6.4 million for paving, drainage improvements and other road work. One of the projects would result in replacing the Kings Highway Bridge. Freda said the bridge has been washed out despite town efforts to rebuild it twice.

Library program brings readers and authors together

TACOS, TEQUILA, AND TRAINWRECK

Can you remember the last time your favorite author came to your living room to talk to you about their newest book? What about the last time they answered your questions about their process, their hopes and dreams, or their goals for their future? Unless your favorite author happens to be a close relative (and even then it might depend on how close), that answer is probably never. But if you’re a patron of the North Haven Memorial Library, that answer might be a little different thanks to a totally free initiative called “Author Talk.” The North Haven Fair will be filling up the NH Fairgrounds in another week, but prior to that, the grounds hosted the Taco and Tequila Festival on Sunday, Aug. 20. It was a day filled with good food and drink, as well as music, with the local band “Trainwreck” providing the tunes for the day.

In 2022, the Library partnered with the Library Speaker Consortium to offer library members access to live, virtual interviews with authors of adult fiction and nonfiction books. The authors
