NHHS welcomes new baseball coach Citizen report

For the first time in more than six decades, the North Haven High School baseball program has a new face at the helm.

Romanelli

This week, Joseph Romanelli was introduced as the Nighthawks coach. He takes over for Bob DeMayo, who

called it a career back in August. DeMayo had navigated the NHHS baseball team since the late-50s. Romanelli takes the reins of a well-respected program. DeMayo led the North Haven baseball team to five state championships, 21 conference crowns and numerous division titles.

Last spring, the Nighthawks rolled up a regular season record of 9-11 and lost in the first round of the CIAC Class L state tournament. North Haven High School Athletic Director Steve Blumenthal said “We are very excited" to bring Romanelli onboard.

"It is not easy to follow in the footsteps of someone who has coached the baseball program for 64 years," Blumenthal added. "But, the committee unanimously felt that Coach Romanelli has the skills and knowledge to set the baseball program on a new path.” See Baseball, A3
