High school earns computer science award By Nicole Zappone The Citizen
According to the College Board AP website, the Computer Science Female Diversity Award recognizes Each year, select schools earn the AP schools that are closing the gender Computer Science Female Diversity gap and expanding young women’s Award. Recently, North Haven High access to computer science courseSchool learned that it was one of 832 work in AP Computer Science Prinschools in the U.S. to receive the ciples and AP Computer Science. honor.
Schools receiving this award have achieved either 50% or higher female exam-taker representation in one or both AP computer science courses, or have a percentage of female computer science exam-takers that meet or exceed that of the school’s female population.

Local MMA fighter making a name for himself

On Sunday, Jan. 29 the six remaining qualified volunteer firefighters from the Montowese station will be reassigned to the two volunteer fire stations within North Haven – West Ridge (1331 Ridge Road) and Northeast (366 Washington Ave.).

North Haven High School graduate Yuri Panferov is coming up in the world of mixed martial arts. According to the website tapology.com, Panferov is currently ranked 35th out of 322 fighters in the U.S. Pro Light Heavyweight division, and is third among light heavyweights in the northeast. Fighting at 214 pounds, Panferov also has accumulated multiple titles in MMA and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. See Local fighter, A4
