BUSINESS MILESTONE

By Nicole Zappone The Citizen

Beckley Road stayed busy last weekend as thousands of people took advantage of the wonderful weather to attend the 73rd annual Berlin Lions Fair, held Sept. 15 to 18. Ticket sales on Friday and Saturday set fair records. “We had our biggest and best Berlin Fair ever, showing a growth of 30 percent from last year,” Fair President Philip Porter said. “I sincerely hope every fairgoer had an amazing time and that our non-profit food booths achieved significant success in their endeavors. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next September.” The fair offered fun for all ages, including a demolition derby, helicopter rides, a circus, contests, live music, games, rides, and plenty of food – more so than usual. “The people asked for more food, so we gave it to them,” Porter said. JMB Plumbing has deep roots in the community By Nicole Zappone The Citizen

When Jason Borselle started his plumbing business a decade ago, he felt confident that if he treated customers with respect, word would get around, and the phone would keep ringing. Borselle was on to something. Located at 170 Kensington Ave., JMB Plumbing celebrated its tenth anniversary recently, as well as a ribbon-cutting. Earlier this year, Borselle moved JMB Plumbing from a 500-square-foot space on Farmington Avenue to its current 1,200-square-foot home.

“We moved to this location because we outgrew the last one, and this has the space we need," said Borselle, who had his eye on the property for years. Borselle said the previous owner of the Kensington Avenue building was nearing retirement. "I was in the right spot at the right time, and he told me he would give me the first chance to purchase,” said Borselle, a Berlin resident. JMB offers residential service and repair, drain cleaning, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, and light commercial work.

Berlin Democratic Town Councilor Jack Fazzino and Republican challenger Lou Arata have been going door to door and attending events in the hopes of earning votes in the redrawn 83rd House district. Fazzino and Arata, a Meriden resident, are vying for the seat left open by retiring state Rep. Cathy Abercrombie, a Democrat. It is Arata’s third try at the seat after narrowly losing to Abercrombie by roughly 300 votes in 2018 and 2020. According to state election filings, Fazzino raised $9,135.00 through August, to Arata’s $6,455.03, as of July 18. The newly-redrawn district has shaved off some parts of Meriden and all of Southington, and expanded in Berlin and Cheshire. It remains to be seen if more
