Around Town Town Assessor honored Town of Berlin Assessor Joe Ferraro was selected to receive the Sherry Vermilya Award by the Northeast Regional Association of Assessing officers. The State of Connecticut nominated Ferraro for the award, which recognizes outstanding service to the profession.
“I was thrilled to hear that Joe was selected by his peers to be recognized for his lifelong commitment and outstanding service to his profession,” Town Manager Arosha Jayawickrema stated in a press release. “Joe’s expertise has served the town well during his 23 years of service, and we are fortunate to have Joe on the Berlin team.” See Town, A9
Annual Upbeat picnic draws record turnout Press Release
The Upbeat Program has been a vital part of the Berlin community since its inception 35 years ago. Led by match medalist Kenna Roman, the Berlin High School girls golf team carded a 337 and claimed its second straight CIAC Division II state championship Monday, June 5 at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull. The Lady Redcoats didn’t lose a single match this spring, and topped their nearest DII competition, St. Paul, by 40 strokes. Roman’s 78 on Monday was three strokes ahead of the runner-up. Berlin’s Samantha Dunn tied for third with an 82, and Libby Dunn shot an 86 to claim seventh place. Berlin’s championship contingent also included Charley Carlson (91) and Molly Szczesniak (96).
