The Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors® recently presented the 2023 Good Neighbor Community Service Award to Barbara Walk with Re/ Max Realty Suburban for her work founding Bailee’s Closet, an organization that works to provide clothing to children in foster care, victims of domestic violence, and families struck by crisis.
Bailee’s Closet was created in honor of her late daughter, Bailee Walk, who tragically passed away in 2017. This profound personal loss became the catalyst for an impactful community gain. Along with a network of dedicated volunteers, Barbara gathers and sorts through donated clothing, coordinates fundraising events, and bargain shops for needed items. Bailee’s Closet maximizes the value of donations to also provide families with new shoes, socks, and underwear, fostering dignity and self-esteem among recipients.
“We are able to offer families in need with a step up,” says Barbara. “If we can provide support and the basic necessities, they can use their often limited resources for food or housing.”
The organization, which is in partnership with Starfish Project Foundation, has felt tremendous support from the real estate community. Re/Max Realty Suburban agents
and staff are able to donate a portion of each transaction directly to Bailee’s Closet. The brokerage provides a monthly check for the donations and mails a thank you postcard to real estate clients for the donation made on their behalf.
