Three Things You Might Not Be Able to Write Right Away By A.Y. Berthiaume There are a few things that readers see first when they begin to engage with a new book for the first time. They’ll take in the title (and cover art), the book’s description, and maybe turn to the introduction and read the first few sentences. But just because these are the things that readers might see and spend time with first doesn’t mean you need to write them first. In fact, I would encourage you not to. Or, at the very least, not get attached to anything you write. Titles, descriptions, and introductions are going to be informed by the main content (or body) of the book and until you’ve written it, you won’t have it to refer to. So I say, go after the stuff you know and write that first. Having the main body of the manuscript drafted will help you produce a better title, description, and introduction in the long run. Titles Your title is one of the most critical promotional assets for your book so there’s no sense rushing to figure it out or forcing something that doesn’t feel right. While it’s the shortest combination of words you’ll write in the process of working on your book, they have the biggest job to do—hooking the interest of your ideal reader so they want to open it up and spend time with it. You can’t settle for a title that makes you go, “Meh,” or “Fine,” or “Okay.” You want a title that makes you go, “HELL YEAH! THAT’S IT.” Sometimes, you can’t get there until AFTER you’ve written a majority of the manuscript. The manuscript informs the title. There maybe be some recurring phrases or themes that make for a catchy title or a direction to go.
Descriptions Your book description might live on the back cover of your book alongside your bio and endorsements or somewhere alongside the cover image on an online retailer’s site. Often after your title has hooked the interest of your reader, they’ll flip the book over (or scroll) to read the description. These descriptions are usually one paragraph, two at max. But it can be pretty hard to really boil this down or be exact when you haven’t written an iota of your manuscript yet. Introductions Lots of nonfiction books begin with introductions that set up the premise and promise of the book for the reader. They introduce who you are and why you’re the best person to be writing this book and who your reader is and why this book might matter to them. Those pieces might be easy enough to know before you get going, but being able to succinctly summarize what’s in store for them or how to best engage with the book, will be difficult without juicy innaards being written yet. Moral of the story…Instead of writing things in the order of how they appear in the book, start with what you know (the main arguments and middle content) and return to these other pieces later. And, of course, if you want to add in some placeholder text for these three pieces, go for it. Just be mindful that where you start is often not where you end. That’s why writing is an iterative process. So whatever you develop in the first instance, be prepared to edit and revise until you get it all exactly where you want it.

Crafting a Compelling Signature Talk: The Key to Selling Your Book
As an author, your primary goal is to sell your book and share your story with the world. While traditional marketing strategies are crucial, having a compelling signature talk can be a game-changer in connecting with your audience and driving book sales. A well-crafted talk not only showcases your expertise but also creates an emotional connection with your listeners, compelling them to purchase your book to dive deeper into your message.
The Power of a Signature Talk A signature talk is a powerful tool that establishes you as an authority in your field. It allows you to present your ideas in a structured, engaging manner, helping you to build a strong personal brand. Your talk should not only inform but also inspire and motivate your audience to take action—whether that action is buying your book, signing up for your newsletter, or engaging with you on social media. Introducing the Spark Storytelling Framework™ To help you develop a captivating signature talk, I introduce you to the Spark Storytelling Framework™. This framework is designed to

ensure consistency and cohesion in your presentation, guiding you from the initial engagement with your audience to the actionable takeaways they can implement. Here’s a breakdown of the framework and how you can use it to hone your storytelling for your talk: 1. Kindle the Desire: • Objective: Build an emotional and intellectual desire for change or action within your audience. • Implementation: Start by addressing what your audience yearns for concerning your topic. This sets the stage for your entire presentation, making the audience feel invested. • Example: “In today’s volatile business environment, crises are inevitable. As leaders, our greatest desire is to navigate these turbulent times successfully, keeping our teams motivated and our businesses thriving.” 2. Illuminate the Challenge: • Objective: Present a relatable problem that sets the narrative in motion. • Implementation: Clearly define the problem that prevents the audience from achieving their desires. This foundational challenge sets up the stakes of your talk. • Example: “However, crises often come unannounced, catching us off guard and testing our limits. The pressure can be immense and the path forward unclear.”
3. Fuel the Journey: • Objective: Discuss the journey, including trials, tests, and conflicts along the way. • Implementation: Outline the key phases or milestones of the journey your audience will undertake, using stories to illustrate these challenges and lessons effectively. • Example: “During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jane helped a small business owner pivot their business model to adapt to the new normal, ensuring business continuity and employee safety.” 4. Ignite the Transformation: • Objective: Identify the core message or breakthrough insight that changes the audience’s understanding or perspective. • Implementation: Capture the core message or breakthrough insight that changes the audience’s understanding or perspective. • Example: “These stories illustrate that crises, while daunting, are also opportunities for leaders to step up, innovate, and inspire their teams.” 5. Radiate the Resolution: • Objective: Outline how the transformations achieved can be applied practically by the audience. • Implementation: Demonstrate how your audience can apply their transformation in practical ways. Each section should provide a part of the overall resolution. • Example: “By applying these principles, you can lead your teams through any crisis. Transparent communication, integrity, and innovation are your tools to turn challenges into victories.”
6. Share the Spark: • Objective: Motivate the audience to implement what they’ve learned in their own lives. • Implementation: Encourage the audience to take specific actions following your talk. This final encouragement should resonate through your closing sections, offering a clear path for ongoing engagement and action. • Example: “As you leave today, think about how you can apply these lessons in your own leadership journey.” A signature talk that follows the Spark Storytelling Framework™ does more than just present information—it tells a story that connects, engages, and inspires action. By carefully crafting your narrative to kindle desire, illuminate challenges, fuel the journey, ignite transformation, radiate resolution, and share the spark, you create a powerful and memorable presentation. Remember, your talk is not just about selling your book, it’s about creating a meaningful connection with your audience. When they feel connected to your message, they are more likely to become loyal readers and advocates of your work.

Time for a
“Speaking”
Brain Dump
If you’re anything like me, you probably have a wealth of great presentation ideas swirling in your mind. You might possess years of valuable experience and knowledge you’re eager to share. Alternatively, you might find yourself tasked with giving a presentation on a topic you’re unfamiliar with or navigating a new industry altogether. Before speaking about any topic, you will want to learn as much as you can about it by conducting your research. Becoming familiar with other aspects related to your specific speech topic will also raise your level of confidence. Even if the topic is familiar, you may still want to do some effective research to ensure that you are giving the latest and most

up-to-date information. This research will help to narrow down exactly what you are going to talk about. AI has opened up a whole new world to anyone thinking about giving a presentation. The days of having to go to a library and spending hours searching through different resources are long gone. The simplicity and ease of AI has replaced those days. You have a world of knowledge at your fingertips - so get to it and use it! To have the technology that we have today, we are absolutely blessed. When you are gearing up to do your research, you must determine what your desired outcome is for your
presentation. What do you want the audience to know, do, experience or change?
Here are six types of presentation outcomes.
1 Informative – This is factdriven. It is not intended to provide complicated or controversial information.
2 Instructional – Your desired result is for the audience to have clear directions or to follow specific orders.
3 Arousing - Your purpose in an arousing presentation is to make people think about a certain problem or situation. These are usually hot topics such as politics, environment, sex, religion, or money.
4 Persuasive - Your purpose in a persuasive presentation is to convince your audience to accept your proposal or desired outcome. This offers real solution(s) to a challenge, controversy, dispute, obstacle or problem.
5 Decision-making - Your purpose in a decision-making presentation is to move your audience to take your suggested action. A decisionmaking presentation presents ideas, suggestions, and arguments strongly enough in an attempt to convince an audience to carry out the recommended requests.
6 Inspirational / Motivational – Your goal is to inspire or motivate your audience to make a change in their life. The objective is for the audience to feel good and feel inspired to take actions steps.
Warning: Be careful not to spend so much time researching that you never get started on the actual presentation! It is easy to fall into this trap because researching can be easier than actually starting the process of creating your actual presentation. I have witnessed several people spend countless hours, even years, performing research and preparing their presentations. They should have taken the time to find out whether people would actually take the time to attend their presentation topic. After all the years of research, they may discover that no one really cares about the topic anymore. They just wasted years of their life to discover people weren’t interested in listening to their talk. Believe me. This happens.
Knowledge alone will not create results. Be committed to getting results!
Take time to research your topic and your audience. Once you have done that, you must put your research into action and begin creating your presentation! Knowledge alone will not create results. Be committed to getting results!

Ensure Your Business is Built to Accelerate
T
he ability to grow at a sustainable rate of 20-30% annually is at the core of any successful small business. With a world that is moving faster and faster, previous ways of doing business no longer work. Does your business have what it takes to accelerate? The good news is that small, entrepreneurial businesses are best suited to take advantage of the many opportunities created in today’s hyper-paced world.

Here’s what it takes to build you—and your business—for speed: 1. Strategic mindset. A strategic mindset challenges the status quo. It gets you out of the “business as usual” mindset and trains your brain to see things that are new and vital to your business’s future. 2. Focused, extraordinary action. Even though you keep your computer upto-date and clean, its speed slows over time.
To maintain a steady and successful pace for your business, keep your focus on the road ahead. Too many programs running in the background decrease its processing speed. The same issue exists in business. Too many initiatives running simultaneously create overwhelming and lackluster results. It is better to take significant strategic and focused action to give your business a giant step forward. 3. Fast-acting advisors. Many of us might think that in motorsports, a racecar driver is the star of the show. In truth, great racing teams are made of an army of people with vital roles behind the scenes. In fact, many races are won—or lost—by a fraction of a second, based on the efforts of the pit crew. Every winning small business owner surrounds themselves with a fast-moving, fast-acting team of advisors at the top of their game.
your engine. Many small businesses and entrepreneurs do this regularly—burnout. Entrepreneurs, designed for speed, understand the role of self-care, work-life balance, healthy eating, regular exercise, and lifelong learning in their quest to be the best. Just like a Chevrolet CMV is no match for a Lamborghini Aventador (zero to 60 mph in 27 seconds vs. 2.9 seconds) or a DOS system capable of the multitude of processes you hold in your hand, methods used to achieve success a decade ago are no longer effective. Your business must be built for the speed of today’s fast-changing world.
4. Resources to invest. Nothing is more frustrating or counterproductive to acceleration than not having the resources (e.g., time, money, talent) to take advantage of an opportunity staring you in the eye. Fast-moving entrepreneurs understand the importance of being able to act within a moment’s notice by maintaining a reserve of resources at the ready.
To maintain a steady and successful pace for your business, keep your focus on the road ahead. As you navigate the twists and turns that inevitably arise, approach them with a calm, measured mindset by easing into the curves confidently and avoiding sudden stops that might slow your progress. Meanwhile, when you find yourself on a straight stretch, it’s time to accelerate your efforts—moving forward with energy and determination.
5. Ease off the brake. With one foot on the gas and the other on the brake, you’re likely to burn out
These simple guidelines will help you achieve your business goals and new heights of growth.

Customer Journeys 101
How to Win Hearts and Wallets in the Digital Age In today’s digital age, customer journeys have become more complex than ever before. Gone are the days when customers would simply walk into a store, purchase a product, and leave. Nowadays, customers interact with brands through multiple touchpoints, both online and offline, before making a purchase decision. Understanding and optimizing the customer journey has become crucial for businesses looking to attract and retain customers in a competitive market.

From Clicks to Carts: Navigating the Wild World of Customer Journeys in the Digital Age So, what exactly is a customer journey? Simply put, it is the path that a customer takes from being aware of a brand or product to becoming a loyal customer. This journey can consist of various stages, including awareness, consideration, purchase,
and post-purchase. Each stage presents different opportunities for brands to engage with customers and provide them with a seamless and personalized experience. The first stage of the customer journey is awareness. This is when a customer becomes aware of a brand or product, either through advertising, social media, word of
mouth, or other channels. Brands need to effectively capture the attention of potential customers during this stage by creating compelling content and messaging that resonates with their target audience. This is also the stage where businesses can leverage data and analytics to identify their target audience and tailor their marketing efforts accordingly. Once a customer becomes aware of a brand, they enter the consideration stage. This is when they start researching and evaluating different options before making a purchase decision. Brands need to provide customers with relevant information and resources to help them make an informed decision. This can include product reviews, comparisons, and testimonials from satisfied customers. By being present and helpful during the consideration stage, brands can build trust and credibility with customers, increasing the likelihood of conversion.
to engage with customers, gather feedback, and provide ongoing support. By delivering exceptional customer service and continuously adding value to the customer relationship, brands can turn onetime buyers into loyal customers who will not only make repeat purchases but also recommend the brand to others. In order to optimize the customer journey, brands need to map out the customer journey and identify key touchpoints where they can engage with customers. This involves understanding the needs, preferences, and behaviors of customers at each stage of the journey and tailoring marketing strategies and messages accordingly. By creating a seamless and personalized customer experience, businesses can increase customer satisfaction, loyalty, and ultimately drive revenue growth.
The next stage in the customer journey is the purchase stage. This is when a customer finally makes a purchase and becomes a paying customer. Brands need to ensure that the purchase process is smooth and hassle-free to provide a positive experience for customers. This includes having a user-friendly website, secure payment options, and efficient customer service to address any concerns or issues that may arise.
One way to improve the customer journey is by leveraging technology and data analytics. By tracking customer interactions and behaviors across different channels, brands can gain valuable insights into customer preferences and behaviors. This allows businesses to deliver targeted and relevant content to customers at the right time and in the right place. Personalization is key in today’s digital landscape. Customers expect brands to deliver personalized experiences that cater to their individual needs and interests.
But the customer journey doesn’t end after a purchase is made. The post-purchase stage is just as important, if not more so, for building customer loyalty and advocacy. This is when brands have the opportunity
Another important aspect of the customer journey is communication. Brands need to maintain open and transparent communication with customers throughout the entire journey. This includes providing
timely updates, responding to inquiries and feedback, and promptly addressing any issues or concerns. By keeping lines of communication open, brands can build trust and strengthen customer relationships, leading to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. Creating a consistent and cohesive brand experience across all touchpoints is essential for a successful customer journey. Whether a customer interacts with a brand through social media, email, in-store, or on a website, they should have a consistent and seamless experience that reflects the brand’s values and messaging. This helps to build brand recognition and loyalty, as customers can easily identify and connect with the brand no matter where they encounter it. In conclusion, understanding and optimizing the customer journey is crucial for businesses looking to attract and retain customers in today’s competitive market. By mapping out the customer journey, identifying key touchpoints, leveraging technology and data analytics, maintaining open communication, and creating a consistent brand experience, brands can deliver a seamless and personalized customer experience that drives customer satisfaction, loyalty, and ultimately, business success. Customer journeys are constantly evolving as consumer behaviors and preferences change, so it is essential for businesses to continuously adapt and improve their customer journey strategies to stay ahead of the competition to meet the everchanging needs of their customers.

Nourish to Flourish Healthy Routines for Fall From an “empty nester” to a “nest refresher”! Fall routines for me used to be filled with the smells of pencil shavings, the sound of new runners squeaking down the halls, zips of new backpacks filled with binders, and of course, a new Scooby-Doo lunch box too. Now, with the kids all grown and gone, those familiar sights and sounds have been replaced by the crunch of leaves underfoot during nature walks and the warm, comforting aroma of baked apples for a delicious snack. September also feels like a second January for me—a time of transition and opportunities to reset and create new routines. Scooby-Doo lunchbox in hand or not, establishing healthy, nourishing habits can help sustain us through the busy months ahead.
Embracing New Routines Fall is a great time to reassess your daily routines and set yourself up for success. One effective strategy is to use a calendar or planner to organize your tasks and to-dos. Just as you meticulously plan your meetings and deadlines, it’s equally important to schedule time for selfcare and healthy habits. Quick & Nourishing Meals Maintaining your energy levels throughout the day with access to quick and nutritious meals and snacks with the following tips. Grab-and-Go Breakfasts • Overnight Oats: Prepare jars of overnight oats with different toppings like berries, nuts, and seeds, a time saver time helps fuel the start to your day. • Smoothie Packs: Assemble ingredients for smoothies in freezer bags. In the morning, just blend with your choice of liquid for a quick, nutrient-dense meal. • Healthy Egg Muffins: Prepare egg muffins with vegetables and cheese for a proteinpacked breakfast on the go. Packable Lunches & Snacks • Leftovers: Packing up leftovers from dinner for the next day’s lunch is time-saving and cost-effective. • Salads in a Jar: Layer your favorite salad ingredients in mason jars. When you’re ready to eat, just shake it up and enjoy. • Healthy Snacks: Keep a stash of healthy snacks like nuts, seeds, fruit, and whole-grain crackers in your desk to avoid the temptation of office donuts. Hydration Tips • Desk Essentials: Stock your desk with a bowl of fruit, a new water bottle, a box of your favorite decaf tea. My personal favorite is Bangle Spice tea-I even dry the tea bag for later and sprinkle on my baked apple) 😉 Crockpot Community Consider a monthly crockpot meal event in your office. A healthy chili day, where everyone brings an ingredient, can foster teamwork over nutritious meals. Working from home? Spend 30 minutes in the morning prepping meals and snacks to fuel your day. What is the Difference Between a Ghostwriter and a Book Coach? A client asked me why I switched my focus from ghostwriting to book coaching. The difference between them is subtle, but distinct. A ghostwriter is a professional writer who actually writes the material while the client (aka: the person who hires the ghost) gets the author credit. It’s a misconception that the ghost just somehow magically comes up with the material. A ghost may interview the client, work from their notes, or any other of dozens of ways that the ghost is given the information to form into a publishable book. Why would someone hire a ghost? The two main reasons are usually that the client does not have the time to do the project, or that they feel they do not have the writing ability. These are the clients who would rather pay for the service than go through the stress of writing a book. On the other hand, a book coach is a person who walks with the client through the process of writing the book. The coach helps the author to clarify ideas and pull those ideas together into a form that makes sense. The coach can help a new author find their own voice as well as help them develop writing skills for themselves. In essence, a book coach assists the author with both the project itself and the process of becoming an author, while a ghostwriter does the actual writing for the author. I have ghosted more than 35 books, but since making the switch to book coach/developmental editor, I’ve found it to be more rewarding to help people find their own voice and make their vision come to life. Why? The author usually goes through a lot of anxiety. They have a great idea,
18
Author
but don’t know how to execute it in a way that will be successful. The first part of my job is to help that author figure out the best way to approach the topic. In nonfiction, that almost always is focusing the topic on one main idea, especially when the author is an expert in their field. The temptation is to put everything they know into one book. That’s a whopper of a mistake. The funny part is that, once the author chooses their focus and begins to write about it, they calm down. Their anxiety reduces and they feel more comfortable putting words on paper. This is the power of having a focused topic. It’s much less overwhelming. With fiction, it’s a bit more complicated because fiction is by nature more complicated. New authors tend to be all over the place because they don’t really know how to build a world or create interesting characters that work within that world. In this case, the critical thing for a new author to learn is the narrative structure. Think of this like blueprints for a house. You can build any kind of house you want, but the blueprints provide the guidance so the builders do it correctly. The best part is that narrative structure is super fun once you get the hang of it. Now I tell clients, “If you want it done for you, find a ghost. If you want to learn to do it yourself and build your author talents, go with the coach.” Either way, make sure this is someone you trust and feel comfortable with, because writing a book is a big deal. Crisis Management
How Authors Can Protect Their Reputation An author’s reputation influences book sales, reader loyalty, and professional opportunities. However, in today’s fast-paced digital age, negative publicity can spread rapidly, posing a significant threat to an author’s public image. Effective crisis management is essential to mitigate the damage and protect one’s reputation. Here are several strategies authors can employ to handle negative publicity and maintain a positive public image. 1. Stay Calm and Assess the Situation When faced with negative publicity, the first step is to remain calm and composed. Panicking can lead to rash decisions that may exacerbate the situation. Assess the situation, understanding the nature of the negative publicity, its source, and its potential impact on your reputation. This will inform your subsequent actions and help you devise an effective response strategy. 2. Respond Promptly and Transparently Silence can be misconstrued as guilt or indifference. Responding promptly is crucial. Acknowledge the issue and provide a transparent response. If a mistake has been made, admit it and take responsibility. Transparency demonstrates integrity and can help rebuild trust with your audience. 3. Craft a Consistent Message Consistency is critical in crisis communication. Craft a clear and consistent message that addresses the core issues raised in the negative publicity. Ensure this message is communicated across all platforms, including social
accomplishments to shift the focus away from negative publicity. This approach helps reinforce your credibility and can counterbalance the negative information.
media, your website, and press releases. Consistent messaging prevents misunderstandings and reinforces your commitment to addressing the issue. 4. Engage with Your Audience Engaging with your audience directly can help mitigate the effects of negative publicity. Use social media platforms to communicate openly with your readers and followers. Address their concerns and questions honestly. This engagement helps clarify your position and shows that you value your audience’s opinions. 5. Seek Professional Help Managing a crisis on your own may not be feasible. Seeking help from PR professionals can provide the expertise needed to navigate complex situations. These professionals can offer valuable insights and strategies tailored to your specific situation, helping you effectively manage the crisis and protect your reputation. 6. Highlight Positive Achievements Amidst a crisis, reminding your audience of your positive contributions and achievements is important. Share success stories, positive reviews, and other
7. Monitor and Adapt Crisis management is not a onetime effort but an ongoing process. Continuously monitor the situation and the public’s response to your actions. Use social media analytics, news tracking, and your audience’s feedback to gauge your response’s effectiveness. For example, you can use tools like Google Alerts to track news mentions and social media analytics to see how your audience responds. Be prepared to adapt your strategy as needed to address any emerging issues or concerns. 8. Learn and Grow Every crisis presents an opportunity for growth and learning. Once the immediate threat has been managed, take time to reflect on the experience. Identify what worked well and what could have been handled differently. Use these insights to strengthen your future crisis management strategies and improve your overall public relations approach. Effective crisis management is crucial for authors to protect their reputation and maintain a positive public image. Can AI take the place of storytellers? As someone who shares stories for a living, it is hard to embrace AI. I’m learning how to utilize it and find it to be a tool in my arsenal, but not a replacement for the others. I see it as an enhancement, and I appreciate having a new tool. I asked AI to write me an essay on the pitfalls and benefits of using it for storytelling. This is what it spit out. I did do some editing to the intro and conclusion, but you can decide for yourself whether this hit the mark or not.

The Dual Nature of AI in Storytelling: Benefits and Pitfalls Enhanced Idea Generation and Overcoming Creative Blocks One of the most significant benefits of AI for storytellers is its ability to generate ideas. AI algorithms, trained on vast datasets, can analyze, and synthesize information to produce new and innovative concepts. This capability can be particularly valuable during the brainstorming phase, helping storytellers explore different angles and perspectives they might not have considered. By offering a diverse array of ideas, AI can spark creativity and help storytellers develop more compelling narratives.
Improved Efficiency AI can dramatically improve the efficiency of the storytelling process. Traditional storytelling involves extensive research, drafting, editing, and revising, which can be time-consuming. AI tools can automate many of these tasks, allowing storytellers to focus on the creative aspects. For example, AI can quickly gather and analyze background information, generate initial drafts, and even suggest edits based on common writing patterns and grammar rules. This automation can save significant time and effort, enabling storytellers to produce high-quality content more quickly.
Personalization and Audience Engagement Personalization is another area where AI excels, offering storytellers the ability to tailor their narratives to specific audiences. AI can analyze audience preferences and behaviors, providing insights into what resonates with different demographic groups. This data can be used to craft stories that are more likely to engage and captivate target audiences. Additionally, AI can create personalized content for individual users, enhancing the overall experience and fostering a deeper connection with the audience. Collaborative Creativity AI can act as a collaborative partner for storytellers, offering a new dimension of creativity. By working with AI tools, storytellers can experiment with different styles, formats, and genres, pushing the boundaries of traditional storytelling. AI can simulate various scenarios, generate alternative endings, or suggest unconventional narrative structures, encouraging storytellers to think outside the box. This collaborative approach can lead to more innovative and diverse stories, enriching the storytelling landscape. Overcoming Creative Blocks Creative blocks are a common challenge for storytellers, often leading to frustration and delays. AI can be an invaluable resource in overcoming these obstacles. When storytellers feel stuck, AI can provide fresh ideas, generate new directions for the plot, or offer prompts to stimulate creativity. By offering a constant stream of suggestions and possibilities, AI helps storytellers break through mental barriers and continue their creative work with renewed energy and focus. Enhanced Research Capabilities AI’s advanced data processing capabilities make it an excellent
tool for research, an essential part of storytelling. AI can quickly sift through vast amounts of information to find relevant details, historical contexts, or factual accuracy for a story. This capability ensures that the narrative is well-informed and authentic, adding depth and credibility. Moreover, AI can identify patterns and trends in large datasets, providing storytellers with unique insights that can enrich their narratives. Limitations in Creativity and Authenticity Despite its benefits, one of the primary concerns with AI as a storyteller is its inherent limitation in creativity. AI operates based on pre-existing data and patterns and lacks the genuine spark of human imagination. Authenticity is another significant pitfall. Stories often resonate with audiences because they reflect authentic human experiences and emotions. AI processes information but does not have feelings or personal experiences to draw from, leading to stories that feel hollow or disconnected from genuine human experiences. Cultural Sensitivity and Ethical Concerns AI storytelling faces challenges related to cultural sensitivity and representation. AI systems are trained on vast datasets that may contain biases and stereotypes. If not carefully monitored and adjusted, AI can perpetuate or exacerbate these biases in its stories. Ensuring that AI-generated stories are culturally sensitive requires meticulous oversight and diverse training datasets, which can be challenging to curate and maintain. The ethical implications of AI storytelling are profound, with concerns about misuse, such as creating deepfakes or generating misleading narratives, and potential
job displacement for creative professionals. Dependency and Skill Erosion There is also the risk of dependency on AI, which could lead to a decline in human storytelling skills. If writers and creators rely too heavily on AI to generate ideas and content, they might lose the ability to craft stories themselves. Over-reliance on AI could stifle this development, resulting in a generation of creators who are less skilled and innovative. While AI can produce large volumes of content quickly, the quality and consistency of AI-generated stories can be unpredictable, requiring significant oversight and editing by human creators. Human Connection and Empathy Lastly, storytelling is inherently a human endeavor that fosters connection and empathy. Stories allow people to see the world through others’ eyes, fostering understanding and emotional connections. AI, lacking human consciousness, cannot truly empathize or connect with readers on a deep emotional level. This absence of genuine empathy and human touch can make AIgenerated stories feel impersonal and less engaging. AI offers numerous benefits for storytellers, from enhancing idea generation and improving efficiency to enabling personalization and overcoming creative blocks. However, it is essential to recognize and address its pitfalls. As AI continues to evolve, it is crucial to strike a balance, leveraging its capabilities to enhance human creativity without compromising the essence of storytelling that makes it a uniquely human experience. By embracing AI thoughtfully, storytellers can unlock new possibilities while preserving the heart and soul of their craft.

Tragic Reason #1
Why Your Listeners Can’t Reach
Out to You 22
Author
Over the next few months, we are going to go over the three tragic reasons your listeners can’t reach out to you. This is about making sure you are getting connected to your subscribers or listeners and making it even easy for them to reach out to you. The tech side of the industry is overrun with spam and bad actors that they have had to make this hard for real
people trying to reach their real followers. Why wouldn’t we authors and podcasters want to make sure our readers and listeners can communicate with us in some way? The answer is, yes, we absolutely do want to connect! You might want your connection to happen in different areas. You might prefer connection via email. Maybe you want them to follow you on
You will be making a tragic mistake as a podcaster if you choose to hide the email address, thus blocking the only way to reach you directly from your show. Instagram. It’s different if you’re a celebrity versus an independent businessperson or an entrepreneur but that doesn’t mean you don’t want them to connect with you. Why would you spend all the effort putting your voice or message out there if you don’t want that direct connection? Most podcasters and authors are not aware that they’re being held back. They’re committing technical forced errors that are making it hard for their listeners to connect with and find them. This is what we want you to understand: People are listening to your podcast on a listening app or reading your book in their favorite reading app. That’s the primary way that they find you unless you’re doing all the work on the marketing side. Promoting yourself on social media or in your own email newsletter doesn’t count. Chances are those people are already connected to you. The ones you really want are the ones who are not yet following you. Connecting with people who don’t know you yet is how you grow your platform and business. More specifically, those might already be subscribers of your podcast but more likely are those who may have tapped into an episode, read an article, watched a video, and is checking you out, but hasn’t made
the decision yet to follow and connect with you.
even aware that their email address is not even showing.
Let’s dive into the first reason that you are being blocked from connecting with new subscribers.
You should have a special email for your show, one that’s publicfacing. Make sure that you have that email in your RSS feed and there is a way for you to make it public.
Tragic Reason #1: NOT HAVING A PUBLIC-FACING EMAIL ADDRESS The player apps are the biggest culprits holding podcasters back and they are doing through your hosting platform. The number one technical blocker is your email address. Apple, for example, claims that they were trying to help privacy concerns and spam email issues by hiding the main contact email address for your show. I have a special email address for outreach from my show (called a “publicfacing email”) because I want to make sure people get a quick response from me. If there is no email listed, then my listeners be blocked from reaching out to me without having to do a lot of work to find me. Additionally, it sends the message that I don’t want to talk to my listeners. I value my privacy over their connection. Four of the top podcast hosting companies out there have made it a default that your email address for your show is hidden from your RSS feed. Most podcasters are not
This is the thing: most podcasters are not listeners of their own show. You do not listen to your podcast. You’re not checking out how the app works. You’re not seeing and experiencing your show like a listener. You will be making a tragic mistake as a podcaster if you choose to hide the email address, thus blocking the only way to reach you directly from your show. Those hosting companies and Apple have decided that they want to make the default hidden so no one can reach out to you. It is in their best interest to control you and your subscribers, but it is not in your best interest. I understand some of you have privacy concerns or are sick of the spam too. In this case, don’t give out your personal or main email address. Give out one that’s created just for the show. We all want our listeners to communicate with us because being an engaged host encourages a loyal listener, and loyalty sells books, programs, and more.
