Coffee Cruz 11th June HARBOUR CRUISE AND VISIT TO THE LIGHTHOUSE FOLLOWED BY SOUP AND ROLLS AT THE CLUB ROOMS
Pick up a coffee from Styx’s café and board “the ferry” for a harbour cruise and see the working harbour, the yacht marina basin, classic boulder bank Bach’s, bird life and visit inside the lighthouse. After the cruise return to clubrooms for Soup and Rolls. $30.00 includes tour and lunch. Morning coffee is own cost.

Meet at the Ferry at 9.45am. Parking has been arranged to park in carpark at Topliss Engineering. We will have two groups one visiting the Lighthouse while other group is on harbour tour. Food and drinks are permitted on board the ferry so please bring your own or visit Styx for your morning caffeine fix. Ensure you dress warm and wear strong footwear. Access to the lighthouse is rocky. You won’t be getting your feet wet. Then we are back to the club rooms for some delicious soup made by John Appleman. “Push Play” 8th May 2022— By Mort After a couple of years break the Sandy Bay hill climb was run again thanks to the Nelson Car Club, some of our club members accepted the invitation to have a go. On course conditions were excellent allowing competitors four attempts to improve on their initial inspection of the road and interaction with the timing gods. Although a little cold in the start muster area the sun was not always welcome during the dash to the finish line at the top of the incline. It was apparent who the old hands at this event were, a bit of slip, slop, slap and put on a hat helped with the sun strike as did the designer sunnies. Word on the street was, conditions of the consent for this event included no spectators, it was therefore fortunate that more marshals were required on the day to help ensure the welfare of those present. Call me distracted, but who could pass up the opportunity to avail themselves of a few mementoes, for the benefit of others of course, while performing their newly acquired duties.
Enhancing the experience a couple of friendly young fellas happened along to lend a hand, by the time the sandwiches were unwrapped they were buzzing about getting the old corolla and starlet out from under the junk in their shed and having a go next year. As the more seasoned of our foursome began sharing wars stories of campaigning a Mk2 jag around Ruapuna and telling the peddler where to go in the old days of rallying, one of the fledglings mentioned he had come down the hill a number of times a few years back under the cover of darkness on a drift trike. To hear his story was most enlightening and the revelation that he has since acknowledged the foolishness of the adventure suggests learning by doing is still alive and well in a few youngins, he recons crashing over the bank a couple of times got him to thinking. The competitors were a mix of old and new just like the machinery they became one with during their brief indulgence to the top of the hill. Looking at the post on the Nelson Car Clubs face book page Glenn Taylor pushed the Honda civic to a best time of 1 . 30 .3 and
of the 35 infusions Walie Evans grinning from within the Lotus élan recorded 2 . 05 . 25 . Numbers have never been my strong point, but a 35 second spread across 35 petrol heads out for a Sunday drive is quite remarkable, then add the fun everyone had on the day and the result is an equation that should not go unrecognised by the governments “push play” campaign. Long may those who make the rules allow us all to enjoy life, get involved, leaned a hand in the running of the next event or put some air in the tyres, tune up the car and have a go. There is no doubt the company of others, taking in the sounds and fragrance of the country side, however diverse, provides Kiwis with unlimited good and well being Glen Taylor Honda Civic, Best Time 1.30.3
