CLASSIC AND COLLECTABLES SHOW DAY SEPTEMBER Fifth JUNE 2021 Greetings from the Rover Car Club to local Clubs, to remind you to put into your calendar of coming events, our annual Classic & Collectables Show Day. With the last two meetings wiped out by Covid we hope this year will be successful with a good attendance to make up for the long break Show day is now an established event, keenly anticipated in the spring calendar. Clubs are familiar with the four classes of judging, and details of the five trophies are enclosed. We hope that our usually reliable spring day comes round this year. The Ray Win Museum, housing Jowett cars and Bradford vehicles, along with motor-cycles continues to attract visitors to this rare collection. There will be the usual rides available, courtesy of the Steam Museum and the Transport Museum is still developing with some new exhibits. A raffle will be in progress. The admission is $5 for a car and its occupants. Motorcycles are $2. There has been no increase for fifteen years for this event. The opportunity to buy/sell parts and car related paraphernalia will again be available and we encourage this activity, as there are not many opportunities for Classic owners in Nelson, where we have such a large group of enthusiasts in one place. Swap-Meet time will be from 10:30am at the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum grounds (Higgins Park) at Wakefield. Judging for the cars will be from after lunch to mid afternoon when the activities will conclude with the presentation of Trophies and the drawing of raffles. Would you ask your members to plan their arrival from 10:30 on, to give us time to organise parking and setting up. It would be much appreciated if cars could remain on show until after the trophy presentation at around 3pm. Tea and coffee will be available from the Clubrooms, after 11.00 am and at lunch time BBQ food will be on sale. We ask visitors not to set up food stalls. Would all Clubs notify their members of this information and put a ring around the date Sunday Fifth of September. If there are any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to phone Chris Clark on 54 79 363. I am home most evenings, or my e-mail address is chrisgeoclark@gmail.com It is ten years since Higgins Park almost doubled in size, and the northern area of the Park is still being developed, especially the area for general public parking and new buildings with interesting contents continuing to appear there. It is also very pleasing and more comfortable, to have the flexibility to spread out displays and parking Make this a day out for the family after the winter and a run for your Classic with a pleasant day amongst picturesque surroundings. Is it time to update our logo?
• At the AGM in Greymouth in August 2019 the proposition was put to the members attending that the Club should be updating its brand and image • They agreed and gave the Management Committee approval to investigate and develop an initial concept for a new logo • They also agreed that while the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand would always be our official name, the focus of the new logo would be ‘VCC’
What is a slogan or tagline? • The first step was to think about a tagline or slogan
Tagline or slogans tell people what we do … "Just Do It," "Try Harder," "Drive Happy.” They need to be short and simple, memorable and easy to say.
Our Slogan must have key words that reflect the Club • Who we are • What we do • Where we are going
VCC - Driving our history
The one that was chosen was …….
The next step was to think about what we wanted our logo to include -
• It must have the letters 'VCC' • It must have a design element that is recognisable as coming from New Zealand • It must have a design element that is recognisable as coming from a vehicle • It must have the tag-line 'Driving our History'
Those four bullet points were given to a designer who came up with various design options. Following a presentation to the March Executive Meeting, the Management Committee is now recommending the following design ………
Elements of the design: • It has the letters 'VCC' • It has the silver fern • The stylised wheel was chosen as it is not specific to any age or type of vehicle
• It has the tag-line 'Driving our History'

Time span • If new logo is approved, then would look to introduce it some time after the 2022 International Rally • There would be a period of time where both logos would probably be in use due to old merchandise stock
