Lux LifeLivin’

We’re clapping our hands in glee at what we’ve discovered can enrich your lives … in more ways than one.

Beyond the stock market, those with investment knowhow are having their vehicles custom-built for long-term financial return. These custom wonders hold their value.

As for your home, you might consider having your ceiling wallpapered. Known as your home’s “fifth wall,” this can bring a splash of color, a feeling of sumptuousness or a statement of sophistication.

Then, step outside and partake in your newly installed pizza oven. Top ones run from $399 to $16,000 and range from ovens on top of wheeled carts to brick and tiled adorned “works of art.”

If traveling is on your mind, we introduce you to some private island resorts, with little-to-no hustle bustle, and biohacking spas where science and technology enhance physical and mental health in opulent settings.

To help you fly to faraway places minus the jet lag, we recommend shifting your meals to your destination’s time zone a few days before leaving. Then once you get to your destination, know what and when to eat.

We delve into gua sha, resortcore, sound baths and the art of instilling art featuring wine.

THESE STEPS WILL SHIFT YOU FROM

FALL TO WINTER

orthern Arizona has the distinction of offering “real” winters with tall evergreens, cold weather and lots of snow. Thanks to high elevations, we’re in a haven for winter sports, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy an average of 100 inches of snow per year.

Transitioning from autumn to winter takes some planning.

START WITH YOUR HOME

Time to take down all that Halloween and Thanksgiving décor and pack it away. Look around and see where you’d like to decorate for Christmas, Hannukah and a brand-new year. Swap out those pumpkins and gourds for holly, pinecones and sprigs of evergreen. If you celebrate Christmas, unpack your treasured decorations and think of new ways to make them sparkle throughout the house. Bring on the candles, strings of light and pine boughs arranged in your favorite large vase. If you have earth-toned accessories from an autumn splurge, pack those away and bring out the winter white. Soft and cozy throw blankets, cream-colored pillows and accents of white and brass throughout the house will give you shades of a winter wonderland that will last you until spring. You may want to add a new area rug in a deep red, green or blue.

You don’t have to compete in the annual neighborhood house decorating competition to enjoy outdoor lights and decorations. A new wreath can bring a festive touch to your front door; twinkly lights in any color add warmth and light to those dark winter nights. If you’ve done colored lights in the past, experiment with all-white, a classic look that will bring you and your neighbors cheer.

ASSESS YOUR WARDROBE

If you haven’t already done so, go through your closet and pack away your spring and summer clothes. Make room for the clothes that will get you through the winter months, keeping items that you can use as you layer for warmth.

Cardigans, sweaters, down vests and turtlenecks can be combined with blouses, skirts and jeans. Do you have boots for fashion and

fun? Take an inventory and see if any of your footwear needs to be winterized or repaired, and make sure you have insulated socks for hikes or just a walk around the block. Scarves, gloves and hats are a fun way to jazz up your winter wardrobe.

MMMM, YOU SMELL GOOD There’s nothing that smells quite so good as a home filled with apple

cider and cinnamon, bubbling away on the stove. If fragrance is your thing, fire up those vanilla and cedarwood candles and let them burn before your guests arrive. Winter scents like amber and musk can waft through the house via air fresheners or oil diffusers.

If you’re really committed, make an apple pie and let the smells permeate the air.

Resortcore ALLOWS

VACATION MEMORIES

TO Linger Year-Round

ome call it a trend that’s here to stay. “Resortcore” has hit both fashion and interior design in a big way, bringing the joy and ease of vacation memories into our lives on a regular basis. You don’t have to wait for that trip to Hawaii to build Resortcore into your daily life and home.

FROM STYLE TO LIFESTYLE

Like a souvenir brought home from your latest vacation, Resortcore has gone beyond a fleeting fad. The sense of summer year-round first infiltrated our wardrobes with linens and cottons, breezy fashions that recall walks on the beach and wind in our hair. Then it extended to our homes and expanded even more to hotel interior design.

Comfort and luxury set the tone with an emphasis on texture and atmosphere. The focus is on natural materials and neutral color palettes that soothe and comfort the soul. Furniture in rattan and wicker set the stage along with baskets, jute rugs and tropical houseplants. Light cotton pillows and indigo-dyed rugs bring touches of the islands, and bedrooms may feature mosquito nets to give that safarithemed element to the home.

MOROCCAN MYSTERY

If neutrals aren’t your thing, you can still get that Resortcore feeling with a Moroccan twist. Giving off an air of mystery, this style includes lots of color with gorgeous tiles and metallic highlights. The key is to begin with lighting — copper lamps and metals pierced to let the light throw off shadows like lace and starlight. Multi-colored

cushions and rugs with elaborate patterns accent the look.

Spanish colonial Resortcore includes heavy dark woods, carved antiques and wall hangings with ethnic textiles. Soft plush chairs in deep wine, hand-painted vases and terra cotta pots filled with large palms give an atmosphere of rest and relaxation.

HOTELS JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON

Taking their cue from resorts, some luxury hotel brands have jumped into Resortcore design. The Beverly Hills Hotel, known as the “pink palace,” now offers branded merchandise that reflects the trend. The Four Seasons has partnered with a sustainable fashion brand to provide clothing and gifts, and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como, Italy, offers carry-on luggage that can easily be adapted as home décor.

What has us so entranced with the idea of Resortcore?

Maybe it’s a reaction to our fast-paced lifestyle. The design aesthetic emphasizes the slow pace of taking time out to enjoy our surroundings, offering rest and escape. There’s also a focus on nature and sustainability, and when done right, the two principles can merge. With an emphasis on comfort and enduring design, creators of home furnishings can prioritize energy-efficient lighting, smart energy tools, fair trade and ethical sourcing.

Calm and elegance are trademark features, blurring the indoors with the outdoors. Candles and diffusers with coconut or citrus complete the mood.

LET LUXURY

DRIVE YOUR AUTOMOTIVE AND FASHION CHOICES

If you take pride in setting yourself apart through your impeccable and inimitable fashion sense, then it might be time to take things to the next level by extending its reach to the luxury auto you drive. Several designers have collaborated with auto manufacturers to create limitededition models that attract attention from millions of fans, including Hermès and Bugatti Chiron, Versace and Lamborghini, Aime Leon Dore and Porsche, and Virgil Abloh with Mercedes Maybach. Even without a direct alliance featuring your favorite fashion house, you can coordinate your closet and your wheels for an extravagant aesthetic all your own.

GLEAMING GLAMOUR

The female auto enthusiast is usually looking for a vehicle to augment and reflect her personal style. There are numerous things she can keep in mind while shopping for her next dream-mobile.

• Color — Choose tones that reflect your style. Rambunctious red, sophisticated black, classic white, refreshing pastel and even Barbie pink can magnify the aura you exude every day. Pick one for the exterior that magnifies your public persona and an interior color that resonates with your personal side — or vice versa.

• Accessories — Let yourself have fun with custom touches on your car. Your floor mats can show off your business’ logo or your favorite highfashion pattern, your steering wheel cover can show off your mantra or photos of your pets.

FAST FASHION

Men’s fashion and automotive design have been influencing each other for close to a century. The rising popularity of racetracks and Formula 1 racing is seen in Brad Pitt’s movie F1. The right vehicle and the right accessories can solidify your image as sleek and turbo-charged.

• Sunglasses — Find a shape that compliments your face and your image: Retro round, trendy wayfarers or sophisticated aviator frames set the stage for your best impression, as long as they fit well and provide 100% UV protection.

• Gloves — Driving gloves were commonly worn in the early to mid-20th century and are still used today by racecar drivers, which gives their use both a retro and rockstar appeal. They also give you better control over the steering wheel, reduce hand fatigue on long trips and preserve your steering wheel’s condition.

From

Yachts to Polo,

WTHE RICH KNOW HOW TO PLAY

hen Robin Leach hosted his TV show Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, the opening credits were posted against scenes of yachts skimming across the Mediterranean Sea, glamorous women stepping out of Lamborghinis and handsome men playing polo. Whatever emotions those scenes evoked, it’s still true that the wealthy have access to hobbies beyond knitting, reading and quiet walks on the beach.

THE DEEP BLUE SEA

Nothing connotes wealth quite as much as a yacht. Aristotle Onassis wooed Jackie Kennedy on a yacht, and Princess Diana escaped from the paparazzi on one with Dodi Fayed (sad endings notwithstanding).

Typically, yachts are at least 33 feet long, designed for pleasure and sometimes racing, with cabins for sleeping. Yachts are designed with advanced navigation systems and powerful motors. Sun decks, Jacuzzis, gyms and even helipads can enhance the luxury of these traveling playgrounds. Whether you rent or own, staff are often required to navigate and serve meals.

THE SPORT OF KINGS

Polo may be one of the oldest sports. We associate polo with nobility, and it was played by kings, queens and princes more than 2,000 years ago in ancient Persia (now Iran). Originally an exercise to develop skills for fighting wars on horseback, polo resembles croquet with players perched on horses, hitting small balls with sticks.

The British aristocracy adopted the sport throughout what was then the British Empire, and although the rules have changed over the years, polo is still a favorite sport among those who have the money and time to indulge in it.

HITTING THE GREENS

Anyone can swing a club in the backyard, but the richest golfers in the world seek out the best courses — and some don’t mind spending serious dough for the privilege. Membership to the most exclusive clubs in the world will cost you a pretty penny. For example, the joining fee for Trump National in Westchester is $30,000 to $50,000. Joining the Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, which has views of the New York City skyline, costs about $450,000, with annual dues running $25,000 per family. Add to that the cost of top-tier golf clubs, those plaid outfits and the help of a golf pro and you’re talking real money.

WINTER SPORTS AND MORE

Gstaad, Switzerland, anyone? Sure, you can hit the bunny slope at the closest ski run in your neighborhood, but if you want to do it up right, there are chalets and resorts to accommodate you. Luxury skiing in the Alps or in Aspen includes exclusive chalets and world-class ski runs with breath-taking mountain views. Ballroom dancing, gaming at the casinos in a white tux or sparkly gown and race car driving are other high-ticket items to chase away boredom or the blues. Here’s to “champagne wishes and caviar dreams.”

YOUR STOMACH CAN LEAD YOU OUT OF

JET LAG

Jet lag can be a buzzkill, especially when you’ve just landed in Paris or Tokyo and your body thinks it’s still in bed back home.

In travel, how you feel is just as important as where you are. While most frequent flyers focus on sleep hacks and hydration, one powerful tool often gets overlooked: your meal schedule. Adjusting when you eat can help reset your internal clock faster — without grogginess or mood swings. Here’s how travelers can use mealtime to reduce jet lag and arrive feeling more refreshed and in rhythm.

THINK LIKE A LOCAL BEFORE YOU LAND

A few days before your flight, start shifting your meals toward your destination’s time zone. If you’re heading east, eat dinner an hour earlier each night. Going west? Delay your meals gradually. This pre-adjustment helps your body clock sync more easily once you arrive.

TIME YOUR FIRST MEAL STRATEGICALLY

Your first full meal in a new time zone plays a big role in resetting your circadian rhythm. Even if you’re not hungry, aim to eat a local time breakfast or lunch. Avoid the temptation to snack at 3 a.m. just

because your stomach’s confused. Food is one of the strongest signals to your body that it’s time to be awake.

STAY LIGHT ON ARRIVAL

Heavy meals can weigh you down and disrupt sleep. After a long flight, eat a light, protein-rich meal like grilled fish and vegetables or a simple omelet. Save the fivecourse tasting menu for day two, once your system’s caught up.

AVOID ALCOHOL AND SUGAR

It’s tempting to toast your arrival with Champagne,

but alcohol and sugary treats disrupt your body clock even more. Stick to water, herbal tea or a small espresso if you need a boost. You can indulge once your body has adjusted.

USE FOOD AS A RESET BUTTON

If you find yourself waking up at 2 a.m. or crashing mid-afternoon, a small snack can help stabilize your energy. Try a handful of nuts, a banana or yogurt — enough to take the edge off without triggering a full digestive cycle.

OSense of PrevailStyle

Allow your to

ur style may change depending on where we are in our lives. Your wardrobe can reflect your spirit: classic or trendy, low maintenance or chic. Nowhere is your sense of style more evident than in your home, which provides a multitude of opportunities to express yourself.

THE MINIMALIST

Take a look at Pinterest, Instagram and Zillow and you’ll see the minimalist look is still trending. Allwhite kitchens, massive living areas with just a few pieces of signature furniture and walls of closed storage for clutter are all the rage.

Counters clear of appliances, which are tucked away in cleverly designed cabinets and free of any knickknacks, gleam like a piece of glass. For many, the lack of “stuff” provides a peaceful, serene place to come home to.

BOHO MAKES A COMEBACK

If you have a hankering for the looks of the 1960s and ‘70s, you may lean more toward the Bohemian or “Boho” style. This gives you a chance to mix and match, blending warm earthy hues with creams and light wood. Rugs and pillows in colorful patterns, blankets and throws with texture, and lots of green provided by indoor plants can give that Boho feel to any room in the house. Vintage furniture and woven baskets for storage give function to form. Leather, natural wood and rattan are perfect for creating an artistic mix-andmatch look that makes a house a home.

COUNTRY IN THE CITY

Statues of ducks or geese and lots of plaids conjure up the feel of a country home, and there is no shortage of ways to get that look. Usually, country decorating gives the old-timey vibe of a farmhouse but with modern conveniences. Your kitchen may have a high-end espresso machine nestled in a distressed wooden cubby with flouncy gingham curtains pulled aside to welcome the sun. Fresh flowers arranged in transferware vases, copper pots, nature paintings and prints can complement the look. If you’re short on family keepsakes, vintage and antique shops are full of accoutrements that will give you that homey, lived-in feeling. Don’t forget the Goodwill and other thrift stores for low cost, high-end treasures.

CLASSIC COOL

Maybe you’ve been watching too much British television and that classic look has caught your imagination. If that’s your style, wainscoting, molded ceilings and wallpaper make you drool along with Oriental rugs and sparkly chandeliers. Classic homes take their cues from East Coast and European designs, and they scream “old money” whether your wealth came from an inheritance or your own hard work. Dark wood, built-in cabinets and carved staircases give that Downton Abbey feel, harkening back to Victorian standards of grace and charm with an attention to detail. Throw in some brass light fixtures and heavy drapes and you’ve achieved your classic look.

Private Island Resorts

TAKE LUXURY TO ANOTHER LEVEL

Most luxury resorts can only go so far in protecting their guests from the inconveniences of daily existence. There’s the traffic you must battle to get in, out and around, air and noise pollution — it’s enough to add to the stress you’re trying to dispel through your spa treatments. To truly get away from it all you should look into resorts on privately owned islands. Some are a little more accessible than you’d expect — you won’t have to have your own jet to reach these amazing, exclusive destinations.

LITTLE PALM ISLAND

Located on Little Torch Key about 25 miles east of Key West, this resort is relatively easy to reach via U.S. Highway 1 and whisks you into its world with a welcoming signature drink topped with rumsoaked coconut shreds. The 30 ocean-facing bungalows are set in vibrant tropical vegetation and the property is perfect for couples looking to lounge by the pool or beach, find restoration at the spa, boat, scuba dive or embark on an eco-tour of a wildlife refuge. www.littlepalmisland.com

ISLAS SECAS

They have their own plane to get you here. An archipelago of 14 islands off the Pacific Coast of Panama hosts up to 750 species of fish, 124 different kinds of birds, a huge coral reef system and a conservation-first resort with eight accommodation options, from tented casitas to a fourbedroom house with professional kitchen. It’s up to you to choose from wellness tent indulgences, water activities galore and gourmet meals served at the central bar and terrace or as a picnic on another island. www.islassecas.com

HUVAFEN FUSHI

This haven within the Maldives is far enough from any boat or plane routes to envelop you in sweet serenity during your stay at one of 44 overwater bungalows or pavilions, each with a plunge pool. Huvafen Fushi recently was refurbished and is swankier than ever, with four onsite restaurants and one “under-site” eatery, 26 feet into the ocean’s surface with sharks and other tropical fish. Of course, it also has the world’s first underwater spa. www.huvafenfushi.com

A Whiskey Collection

TAKES SOME THOUGHT … AND TASTING

If you have a penchant for whiskey beyond the occasional glass for a toast, you may want to consider becoming a collector. Like fine wine, whiskey is more than just a drink. Investing in whiskey is a growing trend in the U.S. with demand growing as collectors become more educated about history, craftsmanship and flavor.

A TASTY PORTFOLIO

Like any investment, the value of whiskey can fluctuate over time. Alcohol marketing agencies predict forecasts and trends in the whiskey industry, and the pressure of new tariffs is disrupting the wine and spirits category.

According to OhBEV, a Vancouverbased alcohol marketing agency, American whiskey consumption and collecting has slowed down due to slower demand and a market glut along with consolidation pressures. However, a growing appreciation of whiskey’s value along with passion for collecting will continue to drive demand.

WHERE TO BEGIN

Just as art collectors buy what they love, whiskey aficionados should begin with finding styles and brands that appeal to them. Bourbons, ryes, Scotch and single malts are examples of diversification of your whiskey portfolio.

By joining a whiskey club and learning at tastings and festivals, collectors can develop an appreciation that will guide them in their acquisitions. A taste set, curated for beginners and experts alike, can provide an opportunity to hone your preferences prior to investing in expensive bottles.

As you build your collection it’s wise to document what you’ve acquired, maintaining your inventory with date of purchase, value fluctuations and notes for insuring high-end purchases. Like almost anything, there are apps for whiskey collectors, so use technology to your advantage.

THE ART OF ACQUISITION

Once you’ve gone from the occasional consumer to the collector, you’ll need to learn where and how to purchase your choices. From storing your collection to drinking from the correct glass, enjoying your newfound passion takes some time.

Bottles should be stored upright in a cool, dark place and like good art should be cared for away from direct sunlight and changes in temperature.

To enjoy your purchase, begin by drinking it “neat,” without ice or water. If you prefer “on the rocks,” throw in a few ice cubes to give a mellower experience.

LOOK IN YOUR CLOSET FIRST Ethical Fashion:

If you’ve decided to become more sustainable and ethical in your fashion choices, good for you. The trends are positive, and the changes in even luxury brands are looking good. But you may be confused as to what you can do to stay eco-friendly and still look fashionable.

Your first step is to get into your closet. There is probably a good chance you have a lot of items in there you haven’t worn in years. It’s time to take inventory. Are there items you could be wearing if you restyled them?

You may even want to have a consultant with you to give you some new and interesting style choices. The best part about fashion these days is that just about anything goes. Wearing wide-leg jeans and a Chanel jacket are just

as stylish as Gucci high-rise straight trousers and a simple white T-shirt. Start by mixing and matching what you have rather than shopping for more right away.

With the pieces you don’t wear — and never will again — you have a few options. Do you have friends or family who might want them? Everyone loves designer handme-downs, especially vintage.

If you don’t, think resale. Buying and selling at upscale resale shops means giving clothing

a second or even third life and less in landfills. For other items, donate to charity organizations and thrift stores. Think of this as the one-in, one-out policy — each time you buy something, donate something. Now it’s time to shop. Start your own investigation into brands you love. After a while, your list will grow, and you’ll have a host of labels. Keep an eye out for Ninety Percent, Brother Vellies, Bite Studios, Patagonia and House of Dagmar. When buying, find materials with lower environmental footprints that require fewer resources and reduce their reliance on traditional, resourceintensive textiles. These include organic cotton and plant-based alternatives. While you’re at it, seek out shops specializing in slow fashion, which emphasizes investing in timeless and durable pieces designed to last. And choose versatile pieces you can style different ways rather than items that will fall out of fashion by next season.

HIGH-NET-WORTH VEHICLE BUYERS THINK BEYOND

THE STOCK MARKET

As economic uncertainty continues to shape buying habits, a growing number of luxury consumers are shifting their focus from traditional assets to tangible ones. Among them? Custom-built vehicles.

Unlike watches or designer goods that often lose value over time, a thoughtfully crafted car can offer both performance and long-term financial return. In the right hands, these vehicles are more than passion projects. They are assets.

The U.S. light vehicle aftermarket is projected to reach $435 billion in 2025, according to the Auto Care Association. While some of that growth is driven by hobbyists and car enthusiasts, a sizable portion comes from clients who are treating their garages like private investment portfolios.

Custom builds that blend engineering, craftsmanship and timeless design are becoming increasingly attractive to buyers who want something more personal and more stable than a market index. These builds can take months and hundreds of hours of expert labor, but the result is a oneof-a-kind vehicle that retains value and often appreciates over time.

Shops across the country are seeing increased demand from clients seeking legacy builds.

In Connecticut, Legends Auto Boutique works with collectors who view highperformance cars as part of their broader financial strategy. Founder Giovanni “Gio” Petruzziello says many of his clients are not chasing attention but quietly building collections that reflect both personal taste and long-term value.

“We are seeing more people treat custom vehicles as a serious investment,” he says. “It is not just about horsepower. It is about holding value.”

Custom vehicles occupy a unique place in the luxury landscape. They are experiential, highly personalized and rooted in craft, an antidote to mass production. And for many owners, they also offer a deeper sense of connection than other investments.

While no asset is guaranteed, the rise of high-end vehicle customization is opening a new lane for those wanting to blend personal enjoyment with financial foresight.

FROM EVOKING PASSION TO THE SEA,

Floral Fragrances Deliver

Like fine wines, perfumes come in a wide variety of choices. From heavy musk to light fragrances, learning which perfume is right for you may take some time and experimentation. Perhaps the most classic among perfumes are floral fragrances, taking their scents from nature. While herbs and spices like myrtle and coriander originally were used in making perfume, taking scents from flowers increased as the science and art of making perfumes evolved. Rose, lavender, jasmine and lily of the valley are a few of the flowers that have inspired perfumers throughout the ages.

WHITE FLORALS FROM THE GARDEN

One category, “white florals,” takes its scent from garden flowers like orange blossoms, magnolias and gardenias. White florals can be extremely sweet or fresh and delicate and are often worn for evening or formal occasions. Blossoms are typically soft and delicate, creating a smell that is sometimes described as narcotic due to a natural molecule called indole.

Dior J’adore is an example of a timeless scent that brings together jasmine, lily of the valley and a flower called ylang-ylang, a tropical tree

native to the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. White florals are associated with passion and desire.

FRESH FLORAL FOR A LIGHTER TOUCH

More subtle than white florals, fresh florals are more casual with a lightness that can be uplifting. Fresh florals have citrus notes like Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de Toilette that blends grapefruit and green notes with jasmine, rose and violet.

Green notes evoke the outdoors, bringing scents of freshly cut grass, leaves and herbs. Aquatic notes bring a clean essence of water and the sea, and a perfume like Arman Beauty Ocean Di Giola Eau de Parfum makes you think of a warm summer day.

Creating perfume is both art and science, and the more you know about your options, the better. Whatever your choice, it’s good to learn more about perfume before making a purchase, the cost of which can often be substantial. Once a luxury for royals and the upper class, perfume is now available to the masses. Eau de parfum is more heavily concentrated than eau de toilette, and your choice will depend on when and where you are wearing it.

WPerfect your Look LET LAYERING, TAILORING, BALANCING

hen you look in the mirror and your overall impression isn’t favorable, many times we think we don’t have the right accessories and we need to go buy new items. Many times, though, the missing ingredient of a great outfit is how everything is put together. That “how” can take your look from good to great!

1. Add some layers. When looking on Pinterest or paging through your favorite fashion magazine, you will notice a theme. The outfits are much more than a top and a bottom. You will see a shirt peeking out from under a sweater or a scarf tied around a handbag to add more visual interest. Even the way you tuck in your shirt can make a difference. The “half tuck” is a casual way of tucking in a shirt, where only a portion of the front is tucked into the waist band and the rest is untucked. This creates a relaxed but elegant look.

2. Invest in tailoring. Having clothes that fit perfectly can make your outfit look more expensive and stylish. Wearing pants that are too baggy or long? Have them taken in and hemmed. Do you have a blazer or coat that is too long in the sleeves? A tailor can give you the perfect length. How an item fits your body is more important than how much you pay for it. Fit is everything!

3. Balance is key. A general rule of thumb is to not wear a loose fitting top with a loose fitting bottom. A more flowy top looks better with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. The same goes if you are wearing a pair of wide-legged jeans or the popular palazzo style pant. A fitted or tucked in top will help you create a waistline.

4. Don’t forget your personal style. If you prefer a more structured look, don’t be talked into wearing some of the flowy and oversized silhouettes that come and go in popularity. If you prefer a more casual look, a fitted blazer is just not going to look right on you. Know your own style; embrace it!

PETS DESERVE BUILT-IN

PLuxuries

ets are a privilege to have, no matter what your income might be. When you are privileged enough to share a luxury home with them, it’s your duty to ensure they get to live their best lives as well, in an environment that caters to them with details large and small. These are some of the thoughtful touches you can engineer into your next home build or remodel to guarantee your animals are as happy at home as you are.

FEEDING STATIONS

Instead of letting food dishes and water bowls litter your immaculate floors, have your designer tuck pet feeding stations into a kitchen island, game room cabinet, bottom shelf of a large bookcase or some other nook that can be concealed or else streamlined into chic furnishings that add to your home’s beauty while giving your animals a safe, unobtrusive place to eat.

SMART HEATING/COOLING

Today’s advanced HVAC systems can in many cases be controlled by an app that not only gives homeowners control when not at home, but also permits different temperature settings for different areas of the house. This means you can tweak the levels for your pets’

favorite spots, wherever they may be. Due to the natural fur coats most pets have they may require more cooling and less heating than their people, but individual pets’ preferences will vary.

PET PLAYROOMS

Kids and grandkids can be entertained for hours in a dedicated playroom; don’t your pets deserve the same consideration? Set aside a space near the laundry room or garage with a washable, durable floor and set up enrichment activities like puzzle feeders, interactive toys, obstacle courses, seesaws and all manner of species-appropriate playthings so they can let their adorable little freak flags fly!

CATIOS

Many cat lovers want to keep their beloved felines indoors to protect them from man-made and natural hazards but worry about what their pets will be missing with a lack of outdoor enrichment. A solution many cat owners have turned to is the catio, a screened play area in the backyard furnished with platforms, scratchers, shelves, ramps, tunnels, hammocks and more contraptions that let them climb, play and rest while basking in the sunlight and moonlight.

FIND WAYS TO BRIGHTEN

Post-Vacation Blues

ost people agree the worst part of going on a dream vacation is having it end. The great escape from workaday worries can only last for so long and you must return to your own home and deal with all the stress and boredom of everyday life.

Dealing with harsh reality after adventuring in another state or continent is difficult enough to sprout a bunch of “how-to” lists, and we’ve rounded up a few of the top tips:

EMBRACE YOUR INNER TOURIST

While you’re on the trip, don’t hesitate to leave your worries at home and wring all the great memories you can out of this interlude. Take tons of photos and post everything you can, so you can reminisce about it with people who weren’t even there. Sign up for new experiences, buy those souvenirs (preferably from local makers/businesses) and keep a travel journal to help cement your memories in the moment and give yourself a way to reflect once you get back.

KEEP HOME COZY

Preparing for vacation is a busy time, but try to carve out time to make the house as inviting as possible for your return. Take care of all the dirty dishes and the food that’s likely to expire before it can be consumed. Laundry is a big thing you’ll want to have done before you get back with more dirty clothes, and vacuum and dust everything you can before you step out. Make sure to make good arrangements for pet care and mail pickup, so you’ll have peace of mind.

HIT THE GROUND RUNNING

Don’t slump into your favorite recliner once you get home. One of the reasons we enjoy going on vacation is we tend to stay active as we explore new territory, dashing from attraction to restaurant to tour to hiking trail — keeping the endorphins pumping! Sometimes people joke about needing a “vacation from their vacation,” but you need to get back to your fitness routine, or create one if you don’t have one, to retain the burst of energy traveling gave you.

RECAPTURE FLAVORS

YOU

DISCOVERED

You’ve undoubtedly had some great meals seared into your consciousness while you traveled the world and the seven seas. Rather than planning your next trip around those restaurants, take photos of the dish and the menu description so you can try out your culinary detective skills. Seeing how close you can come to recreating the magic will stretch your brain in new ways and revive the journey of discovery you were on during your trip.

KEEP YOUR TRIP IN PERSPECTIVE

Remember that you had an amazing time and you don’t regret a moment of it, but don’t over romanticize it. You will be happy again, and you can take what you learned to make the next trip even better.

“Where there is no wine, there is no love.”
– Euripides

TUSE YOUR EYES

TO DRINK IN THE WINE

he famous Italian astronomer, physicist and inventor Galileo is reported to have said, “Wine is sunlight, held together by water.” This Renaissance man knew a thing or two about life, the stars and pleasures of the grape. For those committed to the passion of viticulture (the science of grape growing) and enology (the science of winemaking) or who love a glass of merlot after a long day at work, it may not be enough to just imbibe. True wine enthusiasts, from “oenophiles” (lovers of wine) to sommeliers trained and certified as wine professionals, tippling may be just the beginning. From the wine cellar to the living room, it’s possible to decorate a home that reflects one’s love of wine.

ARTISTIC EXPRESSION

If your enthusiasm expands beyond an occasional glass of wine, there are plenty of ways to express that feeling. Titian, Caravaggio and Warhol are just a few who created art reflecting the celebration of wine. According to WineEnthusiast.com, wine has been a source of inspiration for years. Archeologists found images in ancient tombs and wine played a prominent role in European paintings as an ever-present muse. Although originals of the Masters may be out of your realm, or hung in museums, you can still take to Amazon or eBay to score a print of your favorite painting for your home. Art.com offers nearly 3,000 items including framed art to canvases and prints that feature

wine glasses, vineyards and that famous Tattinger print of an elegant lady in a black gown with full-length gloves behind a glass of bubbly Champagne. If visiting a villa tucked away in a vineyard in Tuscany is your dream, but you’re still saving for that trip to Italy, you can buy a 16 inch by 16 inch giclee print for just $32.

ACCOUTREMENTS FOR THE HOME

Since 2011, First Wall Art has provided high quality wall art for customers, the perfect backdrop to your home bar. Images of juicy grapes, elegant bottles, wine casks and vineyards are featured on large canvases, sometimes in two-, three- or four- (and even more) panels to fill your wall with inspiration. Paintings, prints and posters abound for those who want to complement their wine collection with décor.

Three-dimensional art is a favorite among some wine aficionados. Metal wall art featuring grapevines, wine glasses or silhouettes of bottles can be a great addition to your collection. Upcycled bottles may be transformed into art ranging from small decorative elements to big sculptures. And who hasn’t seen wooden signs or plaques that feature wine-related quotes to complement the home (“Save water, drink wine”)?

From cutting boards to corkscrews and napkins, you can find all kinds of fun tchotchkes to grace your bar. For the do-it-yourselfer, wine corks make the cutest coasters, clocks and mosaics.

MIND WANDER IN A

SENSORY DEPRIVATION TANK

When I was a young bride, I resisted nearly all the traditions. I got married in a muslin dress made by my mother ($.88/yard) and wore a wreath of flowers in my hair in lieu of a veil. When it came time to register, my husband and I eschewed that tradition as well. This resulted in a wacky collection of gifts, from burnt orange towels and a sailboat sculpture (neither of us sailed) to a certificate for a sensory deprivation tank which, sadly, we never cashed in.

Imagine my surprise to see that sensory deprivation tanks, or meditation pods, have made a comeback. What was once a hippie dippy wedding gift is now mainstream therapy to help people relax and decrease anxiety or stress.

DIVE RIGHT IN

The pod is an isolation tank restricting sight, sound and smell. First designed by John C. Lilly in 1954, the tank originally was designed to study how the mind works when external stimuli are removed. Before you invest in a home meditation pod, try one at a float center or spa. The pod is filled with about a foot of water heated to body temperature and saturated with Epsom salt to provide buoyancy. To experience the full benefit, experts recommend you shower, then enter the pod nude and lie down before the lid is closed. A typical session is for an hour, and it’s advised that someone be a spotter for safety.

If you decide that “float therapy” is something you’d like to incorporate at home, there are choices for in-home pods costing anywhere from $7,000 to $30,000. You’ll need a space close to an electrical outlet, and you can choose to connect it to your water system.

BENEFITS OF A MEDITATION POD

Studies have shown that floating in a meditation pod can help in a variety of ways:

• Relaxation. The absence of sight, sound and smell allows the mind to go into a meditative state that provides an opportunity for the active mind to rest.

• Pain relief. A small study showed that people affected by neck pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion emerge from the pod with less pain and a sense of well-being.

• Anxiety. Another study demonstrated that those with anxiety reported fewer symptoms like sleep disturbances, depression, fatigue and irritability.

• Cardiovascular health. Since stress and anxiety can exacerbate cardiovascular problems, contributing to high blood pressure and heart disease, floating in a meditation pod can provide deep relaxation that may impact and improve heart health.

Other benefits include a reported spike in creativity, providing an opportunity for the mind and body to rest and allowing the imagination to expand. Some have described it as akin to floating in space. Meditation pods also are used as treatment for athletes and in companies and businesses.

How LIFESTYLE HABITS

CAN SUPPORT RADIANT SKIN

True beauty starts from within. While skin care products and treatments matter, healthy, glowing skin is a reflection of how we treat our entire body — inside and out.

Skin health is holistic — influenced by hormones, nutrition, movement, hydration and even mental wellness. When we view the body as a whole, not in isolated parts, we begin to understand that radiant skin is the result of balanced living.

Hormonal balance plays a key role in skin clarity and texture. Fluctuations in estrogen, progesterone and testosterone can cause breakouts, dryness or oiliness. Supporting hormone health through proper nutrition, sleep and stress management is essential. Sustainable weight loss and wellness routines help keep skin firm, nourished and glowing. Extreme diets can deplete the body and dull the skin, while balanced eating and regular exercise promote circulation, detoxification and skin vitality. IV therapy offers internal support by delivering hydration, vitamins and antioxidants directly

into the bloodstream. Nutrients like vitamin C, B-complex and glutathione can help brighten the skin and reduce inflammation.

What we eat shows up on our skin. A nutrient-rich diet with healthy fats, leafy greens and plenty of water strengthens the skin barrier and promotes collagen production. Hydration, both internal and external, is key.

Exercise boosts circulation, reduces stress and supports hormonal regulation — all of which contribute to a healthier complexion.

Of course, skin care routines and facials play their part. Professional treatments help exfoliate, hydrate and treat skin conditions while offering a moment of self-care. Injectables, when used mindfully, can enhance natural beauty and restore youthful volume, complementing a well-rounded lifestyle.

In the end, skin is a mirror of what’s happening inside. When your body is nourished, balanced and supported, your skin will glow as a reflection of your overall well-being.

Just like your business conveys a modern and professional image, so should your marketing materials.

EYE YOGA̓

CAN HELP SHORE UP VISION

Reducing eye strain and fatigue is important, especially for those who spend a lot of time in front of screens. And that’s nearly all of us, as the average American spends about seven hours a day looking at a computer, smartphone, TV or other device.

This creates digital eye strain and causes symptoms including dry, watery or scratchy eyes, blurred vision, headaches, difficulty focusing and light sensitivity. Typical recommended remedies include using artificial tears regularly, the 20-20-20 rule of taking a 20-second break from screen work every 20 minutes to stare at something 20 feet away and adjusting screen brightness and contrast for your comfort.

People are also trying “eye yoga,” ocular exercises inspired by yogic movements that may reduce digital eye strain’s effect on your life by strengthening the muscles that help you focus, improving circulation and helping your face and eyes relax. Try a few eye exercises for yourself:

PALMING

1. Rub your palms together to generate warmth.

2. Close your eyes and place your warm palms over them without applying pressure.

3. Relax and take deep breaths for 1 to 2 minutes.

4. Repeat several times a day.

EYE ROLLING

1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.

2. Slowly roll your eyes in a circular motion: clockwise for a few seconds, then counterclockwise.

3. Repeat 5 to 10 times in each direction.

FOCUS SHIFTING

1. Hold your thumb about 10 inches from your face and focus on it for 15 seconds.

2. Shift your focus to an object about 10 to 20 feet away for another 15 seconds.

3. Repeat this process 10 times.

FIGURE EIGHT

1. Sit comfortably and focus on a small object placed at eye level.

2. Keep your gaze steady without blinking for as long as possible.

3. Close your eyes and visualize the object.

Gua Sha:

WA TECHNIQUE TO GAIN HEALTHY HAIR

hat began as an ancient Chinese method of healing has entered mainstream skin care and is now making its way into modern hair care routines. Gua sha, a technique involving scraping a smooth-edged tool across the skin to help with circulation and stress relief, has become a method for healthy hair and improved hair growth.

HOW IT WORKS

First, let’s talk about preparation. Experts advise that you begin with clean hair and apply some scalp oil or serum to your head. The Komorebi Institute founded by Clive Witham, a licensed acupuncturist and author of six books on the subject, offers online training in gua sha and recommends a variety of tools.

“At the moment jade and quartz are popular but there (are) also materials like obsidian, bian stone, water buffalo horn, steel or copper, plastic, porcelain and seashells,” he says. He recommends we not obsess about the tools, but he also offers wisdom in keeping whatever tool you use clean and safe from harm if it’s fragile.

For hair treatments, choose a comb or facial gua sha tool with a smooth rounded edge to conform to the contours of your head.

GENTLY NOW

The recommended application method begins with a gentle stroke from the hairline to the crown of the head, moving the tool toward the crown in short, upward strokes. Circular motions can also be used but take care to use light to medium pressure. You may want

to focus on areas that are thinning or places where you experience tension. Mild pressure helps to prevent any scalp irritation or damage to hair follicles.

SEEING AND FEELING THE BENEFITS

Why adopt this ancient method of hair care into your modern beauty routine? According to professionals, scalp gua sha improves blood circulation, increasing oxygen to the hair follicles and delivering nutrients. This may also help with reducing hair loss. Like any massage, the pressure can relieve tension and help eliminate tension headaches. The process allows oils or serums to be absorbed better into the scalp and potentially can promote lymphatic drainage of toxins or impurities.

There are some caveats to gua sha: too much pressure can damage the scalp and cause redness or bruising. Anyone with a preexisting condition such as rosacea or eczema should be cautious as the process may make the condition worse. For some people, the rapid increase of blood flow may cause some dizziness or lightheadedness, which is why the experts recommend a very gentle touch. Those with high blood pressure or vertigo need to be careful gua sha doesn’t exacerbate their symptoms.

Maintaining your instruments and starting with clean hair is key to maintaining a healthy scalp. As with all treatments, please seek the advice of a medical professional if any adverse health conditions occur.

Drift Away to Bliss WITH A FLOATING SOUND BATH

ou may have had the chance to mentally and spiritually float while listening to the ringing tones of bowls, gongs and other New Age-adjacent instruments at a sound bath. But what if you could physically float, too?

Floating sound baths deliver the same calming vibrations, often tuned to specific frequencies known to promote relaxation, while participants float on rafts or paddleboards in a pool to create an even more calming, serene atmosphere for anyone looking to unwind in a singularly soothing fashion.

WATERBORNE WONDER

This trending treatment is being offered at public pools, resorts, corporate and private retreats and other locations around the globe. Exactly how it unfolds can vary, but in general participants are asked to gather poolside for a short meditative session before they are ushered onto their personal floatation device, on which they rest for anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. In most instances they don’t get into the water, though they may get a little wet.

Onsite trained musicians play a variety of musical instruments including crystal or Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, shamanic or other types of drums, flutes, tuning forks,

chimes, didgeridoos, you name it. The sonic landscape created by the music usually ranges from low to moderate volume and has many different tones, from harmonic to dissonant, playful to monotonous, tonal to rhythmic.

BREADTH OF BENEFITS

Floating sound baths have been linked to a number of benefits, including:

• Anxiety and stress reduction — Pairing flotation with sound waves has been shown to induce relaxation by lowering cortisol levels, creating a sense of calm that can last for hours or even days.

• Pain relief — Weightlessness in water relieves pressure on aching muscles and joints, while listening to the tones can promote the release of endorphins that reduce the sensation of pain while lifting your mood.

• Better sleep — The stress reduction and relaxation promoted by the music help regulate sleep patterns and lead to more restful slumber.

PLAN FOR A

Daily Digital

MDetox

ost of us think we can’t live without technology. Smartphones, laptops and desktops offer us access to the world in a way that encyclopedias and old library card catalogues can’t match. However, there’s a cost to staying connected 24/7. Mental health professionals recommend carving out a place in your home to “detox” from all things digital, at least for part of the day.

GETTING STARTED

Just the thought of detaching from our phones can make us anxious. More than a habit, technology can be addictive. Ease into the practice of breaking free from technology slowly, building up to more time that allows your mind to rest. Is there a room or a cozy nook in your house to create a tech-free space? Declaring that space to yourself and your family is step number one, and getting everyone’s buy-in is key to maintaining that space. Comfy furniture, floor cushions and soft lighting can create an ambiance that encourages connecting. Natural fibers and neutral colors with materials of wood and stone can set the stage for a mellow, calming influence on our spirits. Houseplants, flowers and indoor fountains connect us to nature, providing an opportunity for us to just be. Maybe it’s not just space but rather a time of the week that delineates a break from our phones and computers. One family created a “digital sabbath,” a day when everyone detaches from technology and spends time together or pursues their own interests.

IN THE ABSENCE OF TECH

Some of us may be flummoxed when we aren’t scrolling through our phones or watching the latest cat videos on YouTube (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Given this time back to explore other activities, we can carve out opportunities to engage with each other or reflect on ourselves. What will we do with all that time, you ask? That depends on your interests and passions. Outfit that cozy corner with a reading light and pull out a book or magazine. Maybe you haven’t had a chance to practice your piano in a long time, or you’re eager to play those vinyl records you collected over the years. Consider writing in a journal or catching up on correspondence, bringing back the lost art of letter writing. Drag out the board games and have a rousing round of Scrabble or have a nickel ante poker game with friends and family. Strike a yoga pose or meditate. Maybe you’re a knitter or a quilter — this would be the time to dive into a project that soothes your mind and gets you into that all-important “flow” stage. If kids are involved, build an arts and crafts bucket that includes paper, watercolors, crayons and colored pencils, then set them up at the kitchen table. Don’t just watch them: participate!

CUPPING

CAN BE A HOME REMEDY

W

hile a trip to the spa is always an option, there are all kinds of home therapies that can bring health and healing. Cupping therapy, a technique taken from ancient Chinese and Middle Eastern medicine, has evolved as a home remedy. Taking its cue from sports stars and pop culture, cupping helps treat and reduce a variety of symptoms.

WHO CAN BENEFIT

Cupping involves using cups to create suction that promotes blood flow. Although there are three types of cups, glass, plastic and silicone, only the latter is recommended for at-home therapies. By increasing blood flow to the skin, cupping helps with arthritis pain, fibromyalgia, muscle tension and other symptoms of aches and pains. Athletes report increased performance and reduced recovery time, and those with chronic pain conditions benefit from the increase in circulation.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

For the at-home cupping session, you’ll need to prepare a comfortable space, laying on a flat surface on top of a towel. Wash the area you plan to treat

with warm water and soap, then use massage oil to facilitate gliding the cups into place.

The size of the cups will depend on the area you want to treat: use small cups for arms and face, larger ones for your back and legs. You may need a partner to get those hard-to-reach places on your back, but cupping can be done mostly by yourself.

Squeeze the cup and place it on the skin, adjusting for comfort. Leave the cups in place for five to 10 minutes and no longer than 15 minutes. Remove the cups by gently breaking the seal, wiping off any excess oil.

Moisturize the area you’ve just treated and clean the cups with water or isopropyl alcohol.

CAUTION IS KEY

The cups will leave circular red marks that may last up to a week. There may be tenderness in the area but not pain. Those people with diabetes, blood disorders or women who are pregnant should consult a licensed medical professional before attempting treatment. Never cup on the front of the neck near the carotid artery and avoid any open wounds, broken skin or any area that is inflamed.

LTHE RISE OF BIOHACKING SPAS:

Where Luxury

MEETS OPTIMIZATION

uxury is evolving. Once defined by thread count and ocean views, the new standard includes cryo chambers, red light pods and IV drips packed with NAD+. Biohacking spas are the latest evolution in high-end wellness, catering to a clientele that wants more than pampering — they want performance, longevity and data-driven results. At the core, biohacking is about using science and technology to enhance physical and mental health. But in the luxury space, it’s also about delivering that edge in settings where opulence meets optimization.

UPGRADE YOUR BODY—IN STYLE

Take Remedy Place in West Hollywood, New York and Boston. Marketed as a “social wellness club,” this sleek, members-only spa feels more like a high-end lounge than a medical clinic. Guests sip adaptogen-infused beverages while waiting for hyperbaric oxygen therapy or a personalized IV drip. The aim? Improved cellular regeneration, faster recovery and an anti-aging boost. www.remedyplace.com

Then there’s The Ranch, with locations in Malibu and New York’s Hudson Valley. This retreat offers intensive week-long programs where guests undergo daily infrared sauna sessions, deep tissue massage, cryotherapy and nutrient monitoring — all within historic properties reimagined for 21st-century wellness. It’s a place where biohacking protocols meet chef-crafted, organic cuisine. www.theranchlife.com

TECHNOLOGY AS THERAPY

Six Senses Ibiza has taken a bold leap into biohacking, integrating tech-forward therapies into its wellness programming. Their RoseBar Longevity Club offers hormone optimization, ozone therapy and AI-driven health assessments alongside traditional spa treatments and stunning Mediterranean views. Here, the future of health is delivered with a sea breeze and a side of serenity. www.rosebarlongevity.com

Another standout is Clinique La Prairie in Switzerland. Famous for its pioneering stem cell therapies, the clinic has embraced a full suite of biohacking tools: from neurostimulation and cryo sessions to genetic testing and photobiomodulation. Guests leave not just refreshed, but often biologically younger — according to their bloodwork, anyway. www.cliniquelaprairie.com

LUXURY WITH AN EDGE

Biohacking spas are not about replacing massages with machines. They’re about adding precision and intention to wellness. The affluent traveler today doesn’t just want to relax; they want to optimize. They want measurable improvements — in sleep, energy, cognition — and they want it delivered in an environment as indulgent as it is effective. This isn’t wellness for the masses. It’s elite health tailored to high performers — executives, athletes, creatives — who see their bodies as assets worth investing in. And in this space, recovery is as curated as any tasting menu, and rejuvenation comes with a biometric dashboard.

Ambiente Spa

STRIKES CHORD WITH SOUND & ENERGY THERAPIES

Ambiente, Arizona’s only Two Key MICHELIN hotel and Sedona’s sole adultsonly retreat, is expanding its signature approach to high-desert wellness with new offerings at Velvet Spa, including Sound Journeys designed to foster deep relaxation and grounding by drawing on the natural energy, vibrations and rhythms of the surrounding red rock landscape. Purposefully intimate in scale, Velvet Spa is a refined boutique retreat nestled within the hotel’s biophilic two-story lobby building. For those seeking soul-soothing serenity, the new Sound Journey offerings harness the vibrational power of Himalayan singing bowls to promote energetic equilibrium:

• Harmonic Alignment: A 60-minute individual session that immerses the body in full-spectrum vibrational healing. LOOK DEEPER INTO YOUR HOME FOR

Holiday Enhancement

Finally, finally, we can celebrate the return of the pumpkin latte, even if some people tried to rush the season. Rolling into fall we get a chance to enjoy a subtle change in the weather, and we have a chance to start thinking about the holidays. Getting your home ready for celebrations with family and friends may include some upgrades to welcome your guests.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER

In real estate they call it “curb appeal.” What does your home say about you as your guests arrive?

Home décor experts recommend you elevate your entryway, whether it’s the walkway or front porch. Take a look at the outside of your home. Does your front door need a coat of paint? Or perhaps you need to replace it altogether.

Holiday wreaths, twinkle lights and Christmas gnomes only go so far in jazzing up the yard for a first impression. Check for cracked sidewalks, overgrown weeds and lawn debris, and take care of business before the holidays.

WELCOME TO YOUR HOME

You and your home lived through the Arizona summer that may have wreaked havoc on floors and furniture. After a deep cleaning, look around and anticipate what the holidays might require.

Do you need a larger table to accommodate a growing family? Some new appliances may be in order to accommodate entertaining, and that KitchenAid you’ve had your eye on may be ready for purchase. Have you waited to replace that outdated backsplash? You have just enough time to schedule the handyman.

Now also is the time to evaluate whether the inside of your home screams shabby or chic and redesign accordingly.

Interior design experts recommend beginning with your fireplace if you have one. Sweep off the dust and make way for a new tableau on the mantle that features holiday treasures. From there, look at the pillows, textiles and rugs — do they need to be swapped out or replaced? Consider seasonal colors that have the touch of fall going into winter and give yourself permission to update and upgrade.

Remove knickknacks you may have grown so accustomed to seeing that you don’t see them anymore and replace with mementos that celebrate holidays past and present.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Thomas Edison could never have imagined today’s array of options for lighting, including smart home technology. Research the ways you can invest in new outdoor lighting that responds to the touch of a finger on your smartphone. If your bathroom needs some work, call the plumber, get those tiles regrouted (or replaced) or add modern fixtures that give guests the feeling of a luxury spa. Have you wanted to add a new rain showerhead, soft lighting or heated towel racks? Choose quality upgrades throughout your home that add value to your home and please the eye.

QUALITY,

INDIVIDUALITY OF ARTISANSHIPJustifies

ADDED INVESTMENT

When furnishing your home, your closet or your lifestyle, it’s tempting to take the easiest route by turning to nationwide chain stores or websites selling mass-produced merchandise. Depending on the source the quality can be very good, and there aren’t likely to be any surprises from what you’re going to get.

Yet any home, luxury or otherwise, is enhanced by the individuality and charm of artisancrafted furnishings and other products. If they’re being ordered or purchased directly from their maker, they can be customized to your décor and lifestyle needs.

EASY ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Mass production usually leads to environmental degradation. Even if manufacturers take steps to reduce the damage, they still release emissions that pollute the surrounding air, and employees who commute to work compound the problem.

The materials used in the products are typically massproduced themselves and bring their own health hazards. Add the carbon footprint of shipping and the damage caused by factories could become irreversible.

Artisans operate smaller, often

home-based businesses and work with materials that in most cases have been used for generations in their craft. Most of them are careful stewards, using natural resources with minimal chemicals and reusing or recycling their waste.

SINGULAR STYLE

No two artisanal products are exactly the same, regardless of the mastery of their maker. Variations can be miniscule or major, but they make the piece uniquely yours to treasure. Craftspeople are trained to put their heart into every piece along with their expertise, and the specific details they add to each piece bring more personality to your world, whether

it’s an antique cabinet, a bespoke sweater or a ceramic platter.

COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION

The money from purchases from any artisan or small business within your community is much more likely to circulate in ways that enhance it, through taxes for roads and schools and profits that promote job and salary growth. It also boosts sectors of the local economy that may be struggling, such as mom-and-pop shops and artists and craftspeople.

Even if you can’t find an artisan in your own area to fill your needs, you can feel good about the contribution you’ve made to whatever town they live in.

Wallpaper

A CEILING(S)

TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF

YOUR HOME

The “fifth wall,” aka ceiling, has not been getting left out of the wallpaper revival over the last couple of years. Formerly seen mostly in nurseries and kids’ rooms, this unexpected and refreshing design choice has been spreading to every indoor space as homeowners seek to inject new dimensions into their home. Some homeowners are extending patterns and murals from the lower walls up across the ceiling for a fully wrapped room while others choose to put it only on the ceiling, enhancing the life lived below. Either way, it magnifies the sumptuousness of any space within a luxury home.

LOOKING FOR PATTERNS

Splashing this kind of color on the ceiling can work in any room, and if you want to test the waters first you can start with a closet or small bathroom. A pale shade will make a small room look bigger and a darker color will make a large room feel cozier. Choose a print that works with what you’re trying to accomplish — a horizontal pattern will make a narrow room appear wider, and a sky- or cloudthemed expanse will open up any room that needs to feel a little larger.

Bigger, busier prints on the ceiling catch eyes as soon as people walk into a room and are usually more forgiving of any mishaps that result in panels that don’t precisely line up during the installation process.

Many people gravitate toward having a Sistine-like mural on their ceiling, which works best in bedrooms and bathrooms, where people tend to look up while relaxing on a mattress or in a tub. Installing one also can add an ultra-dramatic dimension to a living or family room where you spend a lot of time entertaining. You can also select a textural wallpaper that can add visual interest without the more distracting elements of a pattern. Try a smooth, sophisticated gilded sheet in a formal dining room or office or a more organic grass cloth for bedrooms and living rooms where you’re trying to bring the outside inside.

DEFYING GRAVITY

Yes, wallpapering a ceiling is difficult at best, and not something that should be attempted by amateurs. But the results can be worth all the hard work. by you and/or a pro. You will need a perfectly smooth, perfectly primed surface to work with, though it doesn’t have to be in perfect condition — wallpaper is better than paint at covering cracks and most stains. Whoever actually does the deed, they’re likely to have better results with traditional pasted-on wallpaper. Though if you’re looking for something less permanent, you can go ahead with the peel-and-stick variety, knowing you might have to shove it back into place with a broom at some point. The vibrant energy it brings to the space will be worth it!

DON’T STAND FOR JUST ANY

ThrowBlanket

As summer turns to fall and the nights become chilly, there’s nothing quite so comforting as wrapping yourself in a throw blanket as you cuddle with a loved one or power up your favorite binge-worthy streaming series. Like all indulgences, there are throws and then there are throws

THE POWER OF TOUCH

Before we get into the aesthetics, let’s talk about texture and touch. Polyester may keep you warm, but it doesn’t always let your skin breathe. When choosing a throw, consider these materials first. Cotton is the first choice of online reviewers. The feel of cotton ranges from soft and fuzzy to a twill weave that may not feel that cozy. L.L. Bean has a classic throw, their Main Twill Blanket, that’s lightweight but still great for autumn. Wool is a natural fabric with great insulation to keep you warm but may feel scratchy. Cashmere throws are the perfect combination of softness and warmth. If you’re going organic, think organic cotton, hemp, linen or bamboo.

PERFECT YET PRACTICAL

Consider practicality when purchasing a throw blanket: will you be able to toss it in the washing machine, or does

it need to be dry-cleaned? High-end cashmere and wool throws require drycleaning while cotton can be washed safely. The Cozy Earth Bamboo Coverlet resists wear but may need more than one cycle in the dryer. West Elm’s Luxe Chenille Throw is made of polyester but is rated as the “ultimate comfort fabric.” If you want one that doesn’t pill, look for “long-staple fibers.”

COLOR YOUR WORLD

Once you’ve settled on touch and texture, go crazy with color. Fall throws that reflect the season bring warm, darker colors to the room. Classic throws like the Garnet Hill Heritage Softest Wool Blanket come in the lightest of blue and cream stripes and gorgeous plaids of grays, blues and browns. For native patterns and tartan reds, consider Blankets of the World, which has an array of throws and cushions from neutral colors to vibrant patterns. This company in Barcelona, Spain, produces textiles from recycled materials with a commitment to the environment.

Whatever your choice of fabric, pattern or color, it’s a good idea to rotate throws to keep them clean and fresh.

WPIZZA

hile it’s a luxury to be able to travel to Italy to find the most delectable, authentic pizza you’ve ever had, the greatest luxury is to be able to have it fresh out of the oven at your own home. It’s become ever more accessible with the evolution of outdoor pizza ovens, which are designed to reach up to 900 degrees and cook a pizza quickly and efficiently. Take a look at three of the top manufacturers of these impressive appliances.

OONI

$399-$899

Billed as the world’s first portable pizza oven, this company has built a loyal-to-fanatical following since the first model debuted more than a decade ago. Its ovens are ideal for those with limited outdoor space, and in 2023 it released an electric model that can also be used indoors.

The original gas-fueled version proved revolutionary in expanding the types of pizza that could be made at home or at a campsite or picnic, with a shorter preheat time and actual baking times as short as 60 seconds.

Ooni’s multi-fuel models can give you a true wood-fired pie as well as one from charcoal briquettes. A gas burner sold separately provides still another option. The base models have room for one 12-inch crust, while the mid-tier models can cook a 16-inch crust, and the largest accommodates a 24-inch pizza. While their flat, narrow chambers are designed for pizza, they can also cook meat, fish, vegetables, bread and even desserts.

FONTANA FORNI

$1,899 to $6,598

A step up from the smaller and more affordable Ooni, these heftier, 100% Italian-made ovens can hold two 10-inch pizzas to four 12-inchers. With one exception, Fontana’s ovens are countertop models that can be purchased with wheeled carts for some portability around the yard. They are available in wood-burning or gas hybrid versions and can be used to cook veggies, meats, bread and much more. Made of cast iron and stainless steel and fully insulated with 12 centimeters of rock-spun wool, these ovens are fully domed to provide even heat distribution without the need to rotate the pizza in the chamber.

FORNO PIOMBO

$2,700 to $16,000

This California firm produces madein-the-USA wood-fired pizza ovens at a variety of price points, starting with a build-your-own kit. The lower-priced models are made of refractory concrete similar to the material used in a kiln for maximum heating and retention.

Then there’s the Palazzo. The company calls this brick, tile-adorned model its “work of art” and it’s produced with 36inch and 42-inch diameter domes and in eight colors. They can hold residual heat for up to 36 hours, allowing you to bake, cook and slow roast a day’s worth of culinary delights. Just 160 are made each year to ensure quality and exclusivity.

Rug CareProper

When you come across a dazzling, definitely not machine washable high-end area rug you must have, that feeling might well be followed by a wave of apprehension once you visualize it being trampled and soiled by all your people and pets. Familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of rug care, and you can move forward with confidence. Regular maintenance, including weekly vacuuming and quickresponse spot cleaning to any stains, will be crucial for keeping your rug gorgeous. Remember to test any cleaner you use on a small portion of the rug first. Rotating rugs every three to six months prevents any one side from becoming faded or grimy.

A DEEPER CLEAN

Recommendations vary on how frequently area rugs should be deep-cleaned, often based on how much and what kind of traffic they get. Annual once-overs will suffice for most, but if it’s located in a busy area or frequented by young children or animals, you’ll probably want to do it every six months or so. Reach out to a professional cleaner if it’s an antique, Persian or Oriental rug.

CAN PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT FOR DECADES

If not, place your rug on a waterproof tarp outside, if possible. Vacuum on both sides to remove every bit of debris, but don’t use a rotating brush that could damage the weave. Using a brush attachment is OK for pet hair removal.

Then, prepare a rug cleaning solution, making sure it’s labeled as safe for the fabric. Alternatively, you can use a mild dish soap mixed with cool water. Apply it to the rug and work it through with a brush or sponge, or you might try sloshing

it around with your (clean) feet to spread it throughout the rug more gently. Use a gentle spot cleaner on any stubborn stains. Rinse the rug with a hose or buckets of water, or blot it dry with white towels (to prevent color transfer), making certain to remove all the cleaner. Remove as much excess water as you can with a squeegee or a wet/ dry vac, because drying the rug quickly is essential to prevent mold and fungus growth. If it’s necessary, you can use fans or hair dryers to speed the process.

GUTTER MAINTENANCE

KEEPS HOMES BEAUTIFUL FROM TOP TO BOTTOM

Luxury homeowners invest in highend finishes, stunning landscapes and premium materials to create spaces that radiate elegance. But often, a simple feature gets overlooked — the gutters.

Neglected gutters can quietly undo all that beauty, causing damage that creeps from the roofline to the foundation. Proper gutter maintenance isn’t just practical — it’s essential to preserving your home’s pristine appearance and long-term value.

Gutters have one job: channel water safely away from your home. When they’re clogged with leaves, dirt and debris, they can’t do that. Water overflows, pools near the foundation, seeps into basements, warps siding and stains exterior walls. Even the most luxurious home can start to look weathered and neglected if gutters aren’t properly maintained.

In upscale properties the stakes are even higher.

Premium siding, hardwood flooring, designer landscaping — they’re all at risk when gutters fail. Overflowing water can erode soil, kill plants and create unsightly trenches around your home’s perimeter. Worse, ice dams can form in colder months, leading to cracked gutters, roof leaks and interior damage. These aren’t just maintenance headaches; they’re costly repairs that can diminish your home’s beauty and value.

The solution? Routine, thoughtful care. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning gutters at least twice a year — typically in spring and fall. For homes

surrounded by trees, quarterly checks are ideal. Look for leaves, twigs and shingle grit that can block water flow. Also, check that downspouts are clear and direct water at least 5 feet away from the foundation.

Luxury homes often feature complex rooflines, custom gutter profiles and hardto-reach spots. Hiring a professional gutter service ensures a thorough job without risking personal safety. Professionals can spot early signs of trouble like sagging sections, loose fasteners or subtle drainage issues that homeowners might miss.

To find the right service for your needs, get recommendations from friends with similar homes or rooflines and check for any complaints that may have been filed against the service with the state Registrar of Contractors.

Beyond cleaning, consider upgrades that align with a luxury lifestyle. Highend gutter guards can prevent debris buildup while maintaining a sleek look. Copper gutters not only offer durability but also develop an elegant patina that complements exteriors. Heated gutter systems are another smart investment for homes in colder climates, preventing ice dams before they form.

Proper gutter maintenance is a small but mighty step in home care. It protects your investment, preserves your home’s flawless look and ensures that from roof to foundation, your property remains as beautiful as the day you fell in love with it.
