LIFEGUARDS: Serious Work in a Swimsuit
We love our Glendale lifeguards and swim instructors, and they love to improve the lives of the people we serve every day, the residents and visitors of Glendale!
When you visit one of Glendale’s pools, you’ll see smiling faces, splashing kids and families making summer memories — and right at the center of it all are our lifeguards. Being a lifeguard isn’t just a summer job… it’s one of the most rewarding and meaningful roles you can have.
Lifeguards are an essential part of keeping everyone safe in, on, and around the water. While many people think of lifeguarding as a job just for teens earning spending money, the reality is much bigger. Lifeguards are highly trained team members who take on real responsibility every day. They aren’t simply watching the water.
Every lifeguard completes extensive training in water rescue skills, CPR, first aid and emergency response. Even after certification, they continue practicing drills and sharpening their skills so they’re always ready to respond.
A big part of lifeguarding actually happens before an
teamwork, leadership, communication and how to stay calm under pressure. Whether working at busy aquatic centers like Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center or Rose Lane Community Center, they play a key role in creating safe, welcoming spaces for our community.
Lifeguards work alongside families to keep everyone safe. Parents and guardians still play an important role by staying attentive around the water. When everyone works together, aquatic spaces become safer and more enjoyable for all.
Many lifeguards even continue growing their skills by becoming swim instructors, helping teach children and adults how to swim confidently and safely. Through Glendale’s swim lessons, instructors help shift safety from reaction to prevention by giving participants lifelong water skills.
Far from being “just a summer job,” lifeguarding is an opportunity to make a difference, gain professional skills and serve your community — all while spending your summer poolside.
If you’re looking for a job that builds confidence, creates
