It is a great honour to welcome you to the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club for one of the defining weekends of Bahrain’s racing season.
This festival reflects the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in positioning sport as a pillar of Bahrain’s national identity and international presence.

Their commitment demonstrates a shared ambition to grow the sport in Bahrain and their support is integral to strengthening our racing programme and delivering a world-class experience for participants and guests.
The Festival reflects our long-term vision to build a sustainable, respected racing product, rooted in strong domestic foundations and global collaboration. I am delighted to welcome our international guests and extend my best wishes to all participants.

HIS HIGHNESS
SHAIKH ISA BIN SALMAN
BIN HAMAD AL KHALIFA Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club

KHALID ABDULRAHIM Group Chairman & CEO

RoyalTea Festival at REHC
Highlighting women’s participation in equestrian sport

The Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) recently hosted the third edition of the RoyalTea Festival held in cooperation and partnership with the Supreme Council for Women.
The RoyalTea Festival aims to enhance the role of Bahraini women and their participation in various fields, including equestrian sports and horseracing.
The Festival also included activities to showcase the unique experience available to women attending the races, organised by the REHC and sponsored by Bahrain Jewellery Centre, Turkish Airlines, Annoushka Jewellery (UK), and Annada Gallery.
The Club actively encourages Bahraini women to pursue careers as jockeys through training programs at the Bahrain Jockey Academy.
The success of apprentice jockey Dhay AlSaadon, who completed the Academy’s programme and now competes in races, demonstrates the Club’s dedication to diversifying the field of the sport’s participants.
2025 BAHRAIN INTERNATIONAL TROPHY
Royal Champion takes the Bahrain International Trophy

Trainer Karl Burke enjoyed a historic first when Royal Champion won the 2025 Bahrain International Trophy. Victory in Bahrain’s most valuable race provided Burke with his first Stakes winner outside of Europe, with his first runner in the Kingdom.
Running in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, Royal Champion secured his biggest and most prestigious win to date in the $1million Group 2, delivering a late challenge under jockey James Doyle to deny the longtime leader and Irish challenger, Galen, trained by Joseph O’Brien, with the Godolphin owned Military Order staying on into third.
“”
I have been very fortunate to have come to Bahrain to ride for many a year and it’s fantastic to finally win this race. It’s a fantastic race, really gathering momentum and you could see that by the strength in depth of the field today.
The race attracted runners from Great Britain, France, Ireland, the UAE and Bahrain, and was broadcast around the world to a record number 28 broadcasters and 125 countries.
Royal Champion’s victory turned out to be the last major race success for his owner and breeder, Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, who sadly passed away in December.

Tom Marquand Bahrain Turf Club ambassador
Once again, we are delighted welcome Bahrain Turf Club ambassador, Tom Marquand, to the Crown Prince’s Cup Festival.
Firmly established as one of the world’s leading riders, in recent years the multiple Group 1 winning jockey has strengthened his partnership with the Kingdom of Bahrain through his sponsorship contract with the Bahrain Turf Club.
Marquand has enjoyed big race success all over the world, including in the Middle East, as well as in Europe, the USA, the Far East and Australia.
Among the 27-year-old’s most notable Group 1 victories was the 2024 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes on the brilliant Economics, owned by His Highness Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Tom’s profile makes him a perfect fit for the Bahrain Turf Club, particularly on account of his growing international reputation. He is an excellent role model for the sport and someone that young people look up to and admire.

RACING FAN WINS

with Select 6
Last month Hashim Shubar from A’Aali became this season’s first winner of the Bahrain Turf Club’s Select 6 competition and in doing so earned himself a $20,000 USD prize.
Hashim, who is 26, is seen here receiving the winner’s cheque for $20,000 USD from Ed Veale, Director of Racing and International Relations for the Bahrain Turf Club.
Select 6 is a free to enter competition. To win the prize, Hashim selected six winners at the meeting held at the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club on 12th December.
A lifelong follower and fan of the sport, speaking after his success, Hashim said: “I was fortunate in that I grew up here around the Club and I have loved racing since I was young. My father has owned horses and my uncle is a trainer.
“With the rise with and development of horse racing here in Bahrain, the Club kindly put on this competition and prize to support the fans and audience, and to add more fun and excitement. And for that we thank His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa for his continued support, as well as the Club’s administration team.”
The Select 6 competition is staged at every meeting and is free to enter. Participants just need to sign up to play and win cash prizes.

How to read a Racecard
Racecards allow racegoers to study the form and find out more about the horses that are racing in front of them.
There are usually 7-8 races taking place on each raceday and a racecard can appear quite confusing with a whole host of numbers, letters and facts to decipher. This quick guide has everything you need to understand and read a racecard.
01 Race number | Time | Title
The number of the race. Time the race is due off. Race name usually including sponsor.
02 Course | race distance
The track the horses are running on. The distance the horses will travel from start to finish during the race displayed in meters.
03 Jockey colours
The Owners colours that the Jockey will wear aboard the horse whilst racing. Each set of colours are unique to an owner. In the event of the owner having two runners the owner will change the cap colour so the judge can distinguish between the owner’s multiple runners. In some cases they may have more than one design of colours registered.
04 Horse’s saddlecloth number
The saddle cloth number assigned to the horse for the race. This is sorted by highest weight and then assigned alphabetically if horses are due to carry the same weight for handicap ratings.
05 Weight
This is the amount of weight each horse carries including the Jockey. If the Jockey holds an apprentice licence (and they can claim in the race) the weight with the claim will be displayed in brackets.
06 Horse’s name
Name of the horse displayed in English and Arabic within the racecard.
07 Horse’s age
Age of the horse at the time of the race.
08 Form guide
The previous horses performances with details of date, distance, jockey, weight carried, race type, equipment worn i.e V for visor, placings, ratings, time, winners time, margins beaten or distance won by.
09 Stall number
The stall numbers are randomly generated by the racing administration system for all races apart from the Bahrain International Trophy where a manual stalls draw is completed. The stalls draw dictates which gate number the horse will start the race from.
10 Breeding – Sire - Dam - Damsire
Sire (the father of the horse)
Dam (the mother of the horse)
Damsire (the father of the dam)
11 Owner
The owner/s of the horse.
12 Jockey’s name
The rider of the horse.
13 Breeder
The person/s responsible for breeding the horse.
14 Trainer
The person responsible for the training and welfare of the horse.
15 Headgear
Headgear is used by trainers to try and help a horse’s overall performance. Headgear is displayed in the racecard as follows:
B = blinkers | E = eye hood
EC = eye cover | ES = Eye Shield | H = Hood
HT = Hood and tongue tie | T = Tongue-tie
CP = Cheek Pieces | V = Visor

16 Rating
This is the horses current handicap rating for the race. On the form guide you can see previous ratings the horse has run off for its historic performances. A handicap rating is assigned to a horse by a Handicapper.
