Mission Statement Our Mission is to provide an extensive and varied recreational program, enhancing personal enrichment, and providing for the community’s leisure needs. The activities and services shall include, but not be limited to: recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs (non competivitive and competitive), and activities for special populations. Resident/Non-Resident To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester. Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. The current non-resident fee is $20 per program for children and $28 per program for adults. NonResident fees are not charged for Special Events and Team registrations.

Refunds All programs cancelled by RARA will be refunded in full. Participants requesting a refund must submit a refund request in writing at the RARA Offices, 500 E Second Street. Refunds paid in cash or check will be charged a minimum $5.00 processing fee. Credit card convenience fee is nonrefundable. Refund amounts will be determined on an individual program basis and requestors will be notified if additional fees are assessed.

Cancellation of Activities All RARA activities are cancelled when the Rochester Community Schools are closed due to inclement weather. In addition, cancellation of programs will be determined by program supervisors as seen fit. Cancellations will be posted on the www.rararecreation.org home page, RARArecreation Facebook & Twitter, and for some programs, registered participants will be notified via email.

Dates will be posted for the special registration periods in each program guide.

Notice to Participants Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk, and by registering for a class/activity of this nature there is an assumption of risk by the participants. RARA is dedicated to providing safe equipment as well as qualified staff for all participants. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of RARA to: 1. Contact emergency medical services to perform first aid, and when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to the hospital. 2. Reach the parent/guardian/emergency contact as soon as the situation allows.

The RARA Board is a policy making board comprised of 7 members, representing the governmental agencies that established our interlocal agreement, and individuals from each of the communities in which we serve. The board meets on the second Wednesday of each month, 5:00PM at the RARA offices, 500 E Second St. Rochester, MI 48307. Goodbye One Six New Years Eve 5K Run

Usher in 2017 in a healthy way! Eastside Racing Company is excited to be sponsoring the 2nd annual “Goodbye One Six New Years Eve 5K Run”. The course is an out and back on the Clinton River Trail behind the RARA building on Second Street. Runners can bring a t-shirt for our world famous t-shirt exchange. Pizza, hot cocoa, and homemade cookies will make this a fun way to ring in 2017 and say Goodbye to 2016. The cost is $16.00 and race time is 2:16 p.m. Register on-line at www.ERCrace.com. The Easter Bunny will be joining us for this wonderful family gathering! your child can have their picture taken with the Bunny, so don’t forget to bring your camera! Grades Pre K – 8th Presented by: National Flag Football Are you ready for some football? Join the largest youth flag football organization in the country. This is a 5 vs. 5, non-contact, recreational, co-ed format. Teams are limited to 10 players to maximize playing time. This is an exceptional program for first time players who want to learn the fundamentals of football. This is also a wonderful opportunity for players who may want to continue to enhance their skills before taking the next leap into tackle football. Games are played at Adams High School on Sunday afternoons. Practices take place one hour prior to game time each week to ensure a convenient and fun experience for all. Participates will receive a NFL reversible jersey, flag belt and individual participation award. Games are officiated by MHSAA referees. The season begins end of April and runs through the end of June. There are no try-outs! Everyone participates! Children are placed on teams according buddy request, school, and grade. Child and Babysitting Safety with CPR

Learn skills involved in caring for infants, toddlers, and young children. Starting your own business, emergency procedures, taming the tots, when a stranger knocks, diapering, feeding, and sleep time are just a few of the topics to be covered. CPR and some basic first aid techniques are also included in the course. Participants ages 11-15 qualify for a 2-year Babysitter Safety certification card upon successful completion of required skills. Students will participate in American Heart’s “Friends and Family” CPR program. This is not a CPR certification course; it is a CPR awareness course. Students will receive a course completion card. Students more than 15 minutes late will not be permitted into the class, please be on time. Taught by Advantage First Aid Training and Safety, as experienced Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, and other qualified professionals. These instructors will give your child the skills to be a confident and prepared babysitter. Bring a snack or bag lunch; students have a 30 minute supervised lunch break. A material fee of $20 is payable to instructor at class. Parent/guardian must bring the student to classroom and sign them in and out. This one day watercolor workshop will provide a good foundation to watercolor basics. Students will learn about wet into wet, wet onto dry, and additional techniques. RARA School for the Performing Arts Our program offers a wide variety of dance classes (preschool, tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip hop, acrobatics) for children and adults beginning at 2½ years of age. We teach these classes in terms. Our RECITAL TERM begins each September when students are enrolled for the two semester program, ending with the “grand finale”- our recitals in June presented at a local high school. Some dancers enjoy non recital classes taught in 8-12 week terms throughout the year (fall, winter/spring, and summer). The summer term provides students the opportunity to strengthen skills or sample new classes in a short 8 week session beginning each June.

COMPETITION & ENSEMBLE CLASSES: Annual auditions are held in May and June. (see brochure listing.) LOCATION: Dance classes are taught at our center located at 500 East Second Street in downtown Rochester. The center features four studio classrooms, each with an observation monitor for viewing. INSTRUCTORS: Our dance teachers are trained, mature and sensitive to the needs of both children and adults. They teach to develop technique and self-confidence, enhancing body image, strength and agility through dance. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Consistant attendance is imperative, as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class. Please make every effort to have students at each class. More than one absence in the last six weeks of the recital term may jeopardize the dancer’s performance opportunity.

DRESS CODE POLICY: Dancewear is required for all classes. Students cannot dance in street clothes. See dancewear and shoe requirements .

MAKE-UP POLICY: There are no make-up or refund opportunities for students who miss class due to illness, travel, family situations, etc. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather conditions cannot be made up or refunded. There will be make-ups scheduled in the event that class is cancelled when an instructor is unable to conduct class. Make-ups may not be the same day or time as originally scheduled.

GENERAL INFORMATION Most of the dance classes running this time of year began in September at the onset of the RECITAL TERM. Currently our schedule includes over 150 classes per week. Performances will held the first two weekends in June. The next open enrollment for RECITAL TERM CLASSES will be August, 2016. Yoga at RARA

We are excited to have to Ms. Brooke an accomplished yoga instructor leading this experience for us here at RARA! These six week long sessions are designed to support persons with special needs. Participants will be involved in yoga poses, breathing exercises and deep relaxation. The class will also include interactive games to promote social interaction. Topics will include mindfulness, compassion for others and meditation. These practices work together to balance physiological and cognitive functions, enhancing physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. SCHOOL BREAK

We are looking for energetic, creative thinkers who are dedicated to working with children for the entire summer (JUN 19 through AUG 18). You must be 18 years old and CPR certified by the time your employment starts. Previous camp or classroom experience is desired. We will also be looking for summer camp staff who have interest and/or experience in working with individuals who have special needs.  Get your job application on line at rararecreation.org or pick one up at RARA offices.  After you turn in your application you will be notified about an appointment to come in for an interview.  Please make sure that you have an e-mail address on your application that you have access to, as that is how you will be notified of your interview appointment.  Interviews will be held on Saturdays, FEB 25th and March 4th. Job responsibilities will include implementing and planning camp activities including: games, crafts and songs. Camp staff are in the water with campers almost daily. There are staff training sessions that staff are required to participate in before the start of camp. This is summer job experience that you will never forget. These positions are great resume builders and will fill quickly do not miss your opportunity! RARA SCAMP 2017

Summer Camp for young people with special needs This camp experience is designed for campers that can be successful in a 3:1 camper/staff ratio and who will enjoy typical daycamp activities. This years camp will meet Monday -Thursday from 9:30am-2:30pm at a location within the RCS district. Scampers will enjoy typical day camp activities and field trips. RARA SCAMP is staffed by dedicated teachers, para-pros, college and high school students as well as volunteers. There are additional costs that are involved in providing this wonderful program to our community. The fee below covers only a portion of the actual cost. Fund raising efforts by RARA and SCAMP parents along with our generous community partners including: West Middle School Students, Van Hoosen Middle School Students, Whole Foods Market, River Crest Banquet Center, Werner’s Hallmark Shops, Rochester Kiwanis and the Rochester Area Knights of Columbus provide additional funds for the camp. Registration for previous Scampers will be held JAN 23rd-FEB 24th to reserve a spot for RARA SCAMP 2017. After that time registration will be opened up to new participants. COUCH to 5K JUMPSTART TRAINING PROGRAM

Have you ever wanted to try a running or walking program, but aren’t sure where to start? Need to jumpstart your workouts for spring, but need motivation? The Brooksie Way Couch to 5k Jumpstart Program is designed for you. This six week program uses a run/walk/run interval training method. Interval training is used for the entire training, plus the race. There is also a walking program which incorporates a walk/ shuffle/walk interval. The fee includes: training materials, t-shirt and free entry into your choice of one local 5k race (Hometown Hustle, OPC Meals on Wheels 5K, or the Hope Water Project 5K). This program is a great stepping-stone into the Brooksie Way 10k or Half Marathon training program. Participants who chose to continue will receive $10 off their 10K or Half Marathon training. KIDS RUNNING CLUB

Are you ready to get out and move? Join our Kid's Running Club! Designed for kids 7-13 this club will meet once a week at RARA to learn about running. Each week you will run further to build your endurance so you are ready for a 5k race. Kids will be placed in groups with others going at their same pace. Each group will run intervals which uses a run/ walk/run method of training and anyone can participate. We will have a group for those 6th graders who would like to keep running but can't participate in track. Parents are welcome to run with their child but it is not required. There will be guest speakers, games and our weekly run. The fee includes entry into one 5k race, a training shirt, shoe ID tag, information on running and more.
