2026 from the director RARA Community, As the calendar pages turn and we prepare to welcome a sparkling new chapter, I want to begin this message by expressing my deepest gratitude to the residents of Rochester and Rochester Hills. Your overwhelming support and trust through the successful millage renewal was truly the greatest gift we could ask for this holiday season. It provides the fundamental stability and momentum we need for the decade ahead, and we are celebrating that affirmation of RARA’s mission as we ring in the New Year. This particular guide, covering our programs from January through April 2026, offers a fantastic glimpse into how we are translating that support into dynamic, resident-focused recreation. Just like setting a New Year’s resolution, we are committed to making the next ten years the best yet, and that starts with strategic planning! We are finalizing our 2026-2030 Strategic Master Plan, a comprehensive vision developed over the past year. This plan is entirely dedicated to defining how RARA can best create dynamic, citizen-focused programs that meet the evolving needs of our community. We believe recreation should be adaptive, accessible, and deeply responsive to you, helping you crush your 2026 goals! The draft plan is available for public viewing and feedback at the following link: RARA 2026-2030 Strategic Master Plan Draft. We encourage you to review it, as it outlines the vision for our programs, facilities, and services through 2030. It will be presented for final approval at our December board meeting. My dedicated team and I are energized by this new direction and by your continued commitment to RARA. Within these pages, you’ll find the winter and early spring activities designed to keep everyone active, learning, and connected as we leave the holiday hustle behind and jump into a fun-filled 2026. We play with a 27.5” ball on 8-foot rims, with coaches and officials guiding the game to ensure a positive experience for all. Teams are formed primarily by school, with friend requests accepted (but not guaranteed), and all players receive full uniforms – tops and bottoms included. Parent volunteers are needed to help coach, so come be part of the fun!

Our most popular camp is back with new worlds, characters, and weapons needed to be the last one standing after a Battle Royal. Campers will play solo and as a team. Class emphasizes safety and respect for others while being fun as well. Beginner judokas will learn to fall safely, as well as master the fundamentals of basic judo (throwing and pinning; there are no kicks or punching) and can eventually earn belt ranks. Just wear long sleeve sweats tops and bottoms. Gis (uniforms) can be purchased from the instructor when the participant decides on a gi. Classes are taught by a certified USJF black belt with over 30 years of teaching experience, including 7 years in adaptive programming.

The Start Smart Move and Play program is a developmentally appropriate introductory fine and gross motor skills program for children 2-3 years old. Developing these motor skills in a safe, fun and age appropriate environment will ensure that the participants gain strength and confidence in their body. It will help them get exercise and physical activity. Finally, developing these skills will help a child’s ability to do more complex skills in future activities, whether it’s playing a sport, doing school projects or drawing/painting. Parent participation is required.

Gather your friends for some friendly competition in our Sunday adult indoor coed soccer league! Teams consist of 3 players plus a goalie for fast-paced 4v4 action. As a coed league, each team must have both male and female players represented on the field. This league will be self referred pickup style with a max of 7 people on your roster. Rosters will be filled out and turned in on the first night. With games running every Sunday, this is a great way to get exercise and enjoy some soccer with friends. ONLY TEAM CAPTAINS need to register and winners will proudly receive championship t-shirts. $100 team deposit upon registration, balance due in full one week before beginning of league.

Let’s go for the WOW factor! Kids will get a kick out of creating art in a big way with these powerfully colorful, large-scale pastel creations. Inspired by the vibrant world of Impressionism, our young artists will explore bold color, expressive strokes, and glowing light effects as they make their own oversized “paintings” using soft chalk pastels on giant sheets of paper. We’ll experiment with layering, blending, and smudging techniques to achieve those signature Impressionist textures, all while celebrating color and movement on a grand scale. At the end of class, families are invited to an Impressionist Gallery Walk, where every child’s luminous masterpiece will take center stage!
