Mission Statement Our Mission is to provide an extensive and varied recreational program, enhancing personal enrichment, and providing for the community’s leisure needs. The activities and services shall include, but not be limited to: recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs (non competivitive and competitive), and activities for special populations. Resident/Non-Resident To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester. Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. The current non-resident fee is $20 per program for children and $28 per program for adults. NonResident fees are not charged for Special Events and Team registrations.

Paint Creek: Make Your Own Terrarium Create a one-of-a-kind glass terrarium with your choice of succulent plants, stones, moss, dirt, and other items to make it uniquely your own. Learn about the necessary supplies and tools needed to design a thriving and beautiful mini succulent garden. All supplies are included with your registration. Join us to celebrate Earth Day at the 14th Annual MI Earth Dayfest April 26-28, 2019. The 5K is a scenic loop route through municipal park and the neighboring subdivision. All ages are welcome and the route is friendly for pets and strollers. The race will be chip timed and have awards for each age division along with raffle give-a-ways from our sponsors. Participation awards include, race tech shirts, medallions, and a seedling tree for you to plant. Location: Rochester Municipal Park Pine Street Fee: $30 Adults $15 Kids

During this hands-on workshop you will be provided with the instruction, materials, and tools needed to create a set of four coasters using alcohol inks. Learn about the necessary supplies and methods needed to design your coasters. Alcohol inks are an acid-free, highly-pigmented, and fast drying medium used on non-porous surfaces. Mixing colors can create a vibrant marbled effect and the possibilities can only be limited by what you are willing to try. Location: RARA Fee: $25 per person 4503

43rd Annual Greater Rochester Open Tennis Tourney
The GRO Adult Tourney July 24-27 and Youth Tourney July 29-30, is a community tennis tournament for players of all skills and ages. We have divisions for every age group and multiple doubles formats for players to enjoy some friendly competition. Awards for 1st place and runner up in each division. Showcase your artistic ability by participating in a coloring contest through RARA Recreation! One contest will be held this summer, with a prize for the first place winners of each age group! Winners will also have their pictures posted on our Facebook page and in our next brochure! Stop by RARA or visit our website to receive the blank template to be colored. Use crayons, colored pencils, and/or markers to complete your creation at home—creations will be judged on uniqueness and creativity! Then, mail complete creations to RARA or drop off at RARA Main Office. Be sure that your child’s full name and age is written neatly on the back of the submission. Winners will be notified by August 12th. Fee: $1 Registration through RARA must be completed for each submission. The animals living in our backyards or in our towns are very different from animals in other parts of the world. While some animals have adapted to live in freezing temperatures, others have adapted to live in extremely hot and dry environments. In Snapology’s Animal Explorers class, students will learn where animals live and why an animal’s habitat is important for survival. Through stories, games, and building animals with DUPLO blocks, your little learner will be busy exploring biomes of the world while gaining critical social and developmental skills without even realizing it in this two day class. An adult needs to attend class with child. This class needs a minimum of 6 children to run. This class meets July 23 and July 25. Snapology: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles Jr. Transportation is all around! Cars, buses, trains, and airplanes are all important for communities and the world to stay connected. In Snapology’s Planes, Trains, and Automobiles program, your little learners will explore the importance of transportation and build models of cars, trains, boats, and more using Kid K’NEX. Most importantly, they will experience important social interactions while working with a partner and learning with the group. Get ready for your child to come home with a whole new set of transportation facts with this 2 day class. Adult must attend class with child. This class needs a minimum of 6 children to run. NEW—Babysitter Safety Course Learn to be safe and responsible. Build confidence. Have a competitive edge over other babysitters. One-day class. Topics include: First aid, when and how to call 911, CPR with practice, choking, dealing with difficult behaviors, basic care methods like feeding and diapering, marketing, and much more! Students who successfully complete the course requirements are certified in Babysitter Safety, CPR, and First Aid. Parents, class ends between 2-3 PM depending on when students complete the course requirements. Students need a lunch, snacks, and a cell phone (if they own one). Sharp Shooters Camp This basketball camp will meet 4 days in a week and 2 hours each day. Your child will be exposed to the game of basketball and get a better understanding of how to play the game. We will work on basic skills and play games related to basketball. Participants will also get a chance to play actual basketball games to gain experience during play. RARA School for the Performing Arts Dancing in Rochester since 1948 Dance classes are taught at RARA at 500 E Second Street in downtown Rochester. The center features four dance studios, each with a large screen monitor for viewing. Our program offers dance classes for all ages in every style of dance. Classes are taught in terms. Movie Night Out This opportunity is designed to support persons with special needs. Enjoy a movie with your friends at the theater one Friday a month. You will pay for your own ticket and concessions. Movies and times are based on the current theater schedule. You must pre-register so that we have enough assistance and space reserved. Summer Camp for young people with special needs This camp experience is designed for campers that can be successful in a 3:1 camper/staff ratio and who will enjoy typical daycamp activities. Camp meets Monday-Thursday for six weeks from 9:30am-2:30pm at a location within the RCS district. Scampers will enjoy typical day camp activities and field trips to places such as the beach, museums, the zoo, and more! RARA SCAMP is staffed by dedicated teachers, para-pros, college and high school students as well as volunteers. There are additional costs that are involved in providing this wonderful program to our community, so we are always looking for new, old, and eager donors or sponsors to help make this camp thrive! General RARA Camp Information
All camps have latchkey except where noted. Latchkey takes place at the location listed in the description. Children picked up late from latchkey will be charged a $1 per minute late fee. This fee is paid directly to staff on the day of pick up. We have a Medical Form on our website that you need to download, (rararecreation.org) fill out and turned in BEFORE YOUR CHILD CAN COME TO CAMP. If you are registering at the RARA office, please bring your Medical Information, Insurance Information, Emergency Contact Information, Date of last Tetanus Shot, Child’s Doctor Name, address, and phone number. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt the morning of their field trip. A weekly detailed schedule will be given to parents on Monday mornings. Campers need to bring a non-perishable lunch. The lunch needs to have your campers name on it. You can also check out the RARA Website for up-to-date camp information. All Campers, please pack your child with a bathing suit, towel, water bottle, and sunscreen daily!
Latchkey LATCHKEY MUST BE PAID AT THE RARA OFFICE. Counselors do not have the ability to take your payment nor are they allowed to take payment at the latchkey drop off and pick up locations. Before and after care is available for Camp Moose Tracks, Camp Caribou, Teen Camp, Travel Camps, Specialty Camps, & Sport Camp. Before and after care is available from 7am until camp starts and after camp ends until 6pm. Latchkey is counselor supervised. This is held in a non structured atmosphere. Payment system: The cost is $4.00 per hour which is charged in 15 minute increments. Your child’s latchkey totals will be tallied by camp staff then billed to you at the end of each week. Your bill can then be paid with Visa, MC, Discover or American Express. You can also pay at the RARA office in with the same methods, with cash or check. If the bill is not paid by the due date then you will be charged a late fee and your account will be frozen until the bill is paid.
Please keep your Latch key account current in order for your child to attend camps.
You are required to sign your child in and out each day. Teen Campers who are riding or walking must have on file a permission form from RARA, signed by the parent.

When RARA is notified at least two weeks before the start of camp, if paid by check or cash, a full refund, less a $5 processing fee will be issued.

When given less than two weeks notice, but before the first day of camp, there will be a 75% refund issued.

When notified after camp begins, but before the second day, there will be a 50% refund issued.

Viking Football Camp
This Football Camp introduces campers to the fundamentals, skills, drills, and terminology that will be used at the middle and high school levels. Campers will gain a better understanding of offensive and defensive positions, formations and plays. As well as learn proper techniques for catching, running, and throwing the football, and blocking and form- tackling. All drills will be non-contact in nature, but will teach skills that can immediately transfer to a live-contact situation. Make and take home a wide assortment of toys designed to teach science concepts in a hands-on way. Grow and take home a crystal tree. Make an energy bead bracelet and watch as those amazing beads turn from white to a rainbow of colors before your eyes. Build a working electric motor. Sport, Fitness, and Fun Camp
This fun-filled sports and fitness camp is filled with a variety of sports, fitness related games, activities, and some exercises. We will be focused on movement, flexibility, and being involved. The camp will utilize the RARA 480 Fitness Center and Field House, the tennis courts and swimming area at Spencer and Bloomer Park. Along with the weekly Wednesday trip that all camps go to. Sports Adventure Camp Each day will be filled with different sports. This action packed camp will teach your camper the basic sports skills in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.
