Mission Statement Our Mission is to provide an extensive and varied recreational program, enhancing personal enrichment, and providing for the community’s leisure needs. The activities and services shall include, but not be limited to: recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs (non competivitive and competitive), and activities for special populations. Resident/Non-Resident To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester. Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. The current non-resident fee is $20 per program for children and $28 per program for adults. Non-Resident fees are not charged for Special Events and Team registrations.

Refund amounts will be determined on an individual program basis and requestors will be notified if additional fees are assessed.

Cancellation of Activities RARA activities at community schools are cancelled when school activities are cancelled. Activities at 480E & 500E 2nd St along with other offsite locations will continue as scheduled unless otherwise posted. In addition, cancellation of programs will be determined by program supervisors as seen fit. Cancellations will be posted at: www.rararecreation.org,Facebook/Instagram/Twitter@ RARArecreation, and for some programs registered participants will be notified via email.

Movies in the Park Sponsorship Opportunities RARA is introducing a new Movies in the Park Series for Summer 2020. City of Rochester Hills Winter 2020 Outdoor Engagement Opportunities

Reptile Roundup

When: TBD; check the city website at a later date Where: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm Cost: $5/person Description: Jeff, owner of "Suburban Jungle" will be sharing his passion of rescuing and rehabilitating reptiles with those eager for a personal experience with giant snakes, lizards and turtles. This is an openhouse program so feel free to join us anytime between 1-4pm with pre-registration; walk-ins welcome after 3pm.

Snowfort and Campfire

When: Monday January 20th, 1:00-2:30pm Where: Bloomer Park â€“Mountain Ash Shelter Cost: $5/adults, $3/children Description: Come dressed for the weather and ready to work as we build an igloo-style snow fort! No snow? No problem! Create a fort made from all natural materials instead. A campfire and hot chocolate will be provided. Recommended for children ages 7+.

Winterfest

When: Saturday February 8th, 1:00-3:00pm Where: Bloomer Park - Hilltop parking lot Cost: $5/person Age: all ages Description: Join us for some frosty fun at the sledding hill in Bloomer Park. You will have an opportunity to try out snowshoeing and warm up around a campfire while roasting marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate. The sledding hill will be open so be sure to bring your sled! This program runs with or without snow. Snow related activities will be replaced with a guided nature walk.

Making Maple Syrup A Backyard Guide for Beginners

When: Saturday Feb 22nd, 1:00-2:30pm Where: Bloomer Park - Pinegrove Shelter Cost: $15/person Age restrictions: Adult/Children 12 and up Description: Travel through various stations in Bloomer Park with Lance and Lauren to learn the first steps to make your own Maple Syrup. You'll leave with all the knowledge you need to make your own syrup as well as a spile, tubing, and bucket to tap your own maple tree.

Sap-To-Syrup Pancake Breakfast

When: Saturday March 14th, 9:00am-12:00pm Where: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm Cost: $7/person, kids 2 and under free Description: Visit the Museum at Van Hoosen Farm to see an old-fashioned sap-to-syrup boiling operation. We will be making syrup from trees tapped right here in Rochester Hills. Sample some real maple syrup and enjoy a pancake breakfast complete with sausage, juice and coffee. Tickets are split into three sessions, 9am, 10am and 11am.

Fly Tying

When: Saturday March 28th, 10:00am-12:00pm Where: Calf Barn at the Museum at Van Hoosen Farm Cost: $15/person Ages: Adults and Children 12+ Description: Learn how to tie your own flies in this informative, hands-on session at the Museum at Van Hoosen Farm. Learn what equipment you need to get started in this unique and valuable hobby. Make your own fly to take home, materials will be provided.

Antler Amble

When: Friday April 3rd, 1:00 -2:30pm Where: Bloomer Park - Pine Grove Shelter Cost: $5/person Skill Level/Age: Beginner, all ages Description: Each winter, white-tailed deer shed their antlers only to grow new ones in the spring. Learn about this amazing cycle then search the trails and wooded areas in Bloomer Park for dropped antlers. You can take home any antlers you may find.

Earth Day Kids 1 Mile Run and 5k Run Join us to celebrate Earth Day! We will be having a Kids 1 Mile Run and a 5K Run at Rochester Municipal Park (Near Rochester Police Department). Parents run free for the kids run and all ages are welcome for the 5K run. The 5k route is friendly for pets and strollers. The 5k race will be chip timed and have awards for each age division.

During this hands-on workshop you will be provided with the instruction, materials, and tools to create two personalized pint or wine glasses using the process of chemical glass etching. Self Defense for Children The safety of our children will depend on their ability to recognize a threat and respond effectively. This fun, interactive and age appropriate workshop teaches essential, lifesaving information about the threats facing our children, strategies for prevention and real-world techniques designed to reduce their risk of abductions, assaults and other forms of violence. Most of all, this program teaches students that they have the right to be safe. This class is taught by Live Safe Academy.
