Mission Statement
Our Mission is to provide an extensive and varied recreational program, enhancing personal enrichment, and providing for the community’s leisure needs. The activities and services shall include, but not be limited to: recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs ( non competivitive and competitive), and activities for special populations.
Resident/Non-Resident
To receive the resident rate you must reside within the cities of Rochester or Rochester Hills. RARA is funded through a millage collected in the city of Rochester Hills and a comparable fee in the city of Rochester. Residency is not connected with the Rochester School District. Residency is determined by where you pay your city taxes. The current non-resident fee is $20 per program for children and $28 per program for adults. Non-Resident fees are not charged for Special Events.
Notice to Participants
Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk, and by registering for a class/activity of this nature there is an assumption of risk by the participants. RARA is dedicated to providing safe equipment as well as qualified staff for all participants. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of RARA to: 1. Contact emergency medical services to perform first aid, and when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to the hospital. 2. Reach the parent/guardian/emergency contact as soon as the situation allows.
Cancellation of Activities
This landmark civil rights act went into effect in 1992. It is a significant step forward to make our society’s services and opportunities fully available to all Americans by combating barriers and prejudices that confront those of us with disabilities. RARA is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of this legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to participate and enjoy our programs should contact our staff at least two weeks in advance of registration to discuss any necessary accommodations or concerns. Persons with disabilities are invited to participate in all programs offered through RARA, We hope that with our assistance , you will be able to create lifelong memories in our community.
All RARA activities are cancelled when the Rochester Community Schools are closed due to inclement weather. In addition, cancellation of programs will be determined by program supervisors as seen fit. Cancellations will be posted on the www.rararecreation. org home page, as an automated message on our phone system, and for some programs registered participants will be notified via email.
Refunds
All programs cancelled by RARA will be refunded in full. Participants requesting a refund must submit a refund request in writing at the RARA Community Center, 500 E Second Street. Refunds will be charged a minimum $5.00 processing fee. Refund amounts will be determined on an individual program basis and requestors will be notified if additional fees are assessed. All refunds will be issued by check once the fees have been assessed.

In a time of shrinking public dollars, RARA seeks outside funding through sponsorships in order to maintain valuable and important programs and facilities, as we continue to provide thousands of programs each year to over two hundred thousand area residents. RARA has designed a sponsorship program that will enhance the ability to deliver recreation services as long as the services and products of those businesses are consistent with and appropriate to RARA’s mission and lines of business. January – Geometric Canvas!

Artists kick off our newest class with a geometric canvas painting project. This class guarantees a bright, colorful, and unique canvas for each artist. Artists will learn a masking technique to create their own design and will select from a wide variety of bright paint colors! Date: Friday, January 10, 2014 Time: 6 am-8 pm Age: 7 and up! We will learn about the work of Austrian artist Hundertwasser who was obsessed with spirals! After painting a colorful striped background on a canvas, we will create beautiful yarn spiral lollipop flowers in the style of Hundertwasser. Date: Friday, February 7, 2014 Time: 6-8 pm Age: 7 and up! Location: The Painted Pot, 421 Walnut Blvd Fee: $30
Roll your sleeves up...we are going to get messy (so please dress appropriately) working with clay! These classes have been developed with fun and more challenging projects for the older clay artist. We will use clay to make unique projects each month using different handbuilding techniques. Pizza and drinks are included.

Ready in plenty of time for Valentine’s Day, this unique LOVE wall art will feature sculpture and texture effects. Artists will prepare this hand-built, 4 tile piece of art with their imagination and a variety of clay tools & presses.

From age 6 months through adults, our outstanding American Red Cross Certified instructors will provide you and your family with a great experience. All of our sessions consist of eight 40-minute classes and are held on weekday evenings and during the day on Saturdays. We offer small group, semi-private, and private lessons.
