The housing design project prioritises breaking the cycle of mediocrity in the UK housing sector by emphasizing contextual sensitivity. Inspired by the HAPPI final report, it aims to elevate mainstream housing standards, focusing on dwellers’ experiences and community engagement. Tailored to specific locations, the design integrates elements for independence, accessibility, and intergenerational connections. In response to the bustling Albany Road, the project proposes a public courtyard to accommodate community gatherings. Engaging with locals at the Roath market revealed a desire for communal spaces that foster connections among different generations. By creating a focal point for community interaction, the design aims to transform Albany Road into a vibrant hub where residents converge, strengthening the existing sense of community observed in the area.
