Friends, It is our pleasure to invite you to join us on April 4th from 10:00am – 2:00pm at our Bull Development Center for the 18th Annual Hopewell Farms Bull Selection Day and Open House. Come visit, have lunch, and consider our available 12- to 20-month-old private treaty bulls. They will be semen checked and ready to go to work. Bulls will be priced and for sale first-come, firstserve. You can pick them up that day, or we can arrange pick up or delivery for a later date. If you can’t make it that day, don’t worry - we have bulls available private treaty any time.
People ask why we don’t have an auction. With our sale format, we don’t just sell quality bulls, we build relationships. You know what you need. Here, you have time to look and we have time to talk. Together, we find you the best bull for your situation. And when the sale is over, our relationship isn’t – we do our best to continue to meet your needs.
Our goal is to produce Angus cattle which pass on traits that are truly important to the commercial cattleman’s bottom line. With today’s feed costs rising, and consumers demanding a better product, we focus on producing bulls and heifers that consistently provide calving ease, early growth, exceptional carcass quality, and feed efficiency.
We are highly committed to quality assurance, environmental stewardship and animal welfare. We maintain a BVD-PI free and Brucellosis negative herd. We are also a level 2 negative Johnnes herd, and monitor for BLV to ensure that our animals are free of those conditions which reduce profits. Since 2018, all animals have been HD50K tested to help provide you with more predictable EPDs. These bulls are sons of some of the strongest young sires in the Angus breed. They have been raised here on a high forage ration to ensure that when they go home with you they will stay sound and breed cows. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Bull Guarantee:
We guarantee that all bulls are fertile. If a fertility problem should arise within the first breeding season (defined as the 90 days immediately following first turnout), Hopewell Farms will replace the bull with a bull of equal value or credit for the purchase price minus the salvage value. Buyer assumes all risks for injury due to running multiple bulls together or management decisions outside of our genetic control. Please contact us as soon as a problem is identified, before culling the bull.

Caring For Your Bulls

When you get your performance-tested bull(s) home, observing these management practices will result in the best reproductive performance.
FEEDING
Remember, the bull is a yearing or long yearling and still has some growing to do. Feed the young bull well. Hay and grain plus a protein supplement will be adequate. you should feed five to ten pounds of grain and one to two pounds of protein supplement in addition to full feed of good quality hay from now until the start of the season. Continue to feed liberally so the bull will grow out well.
BREEDING SEASON
Plan to use the new bull in a restricted 45-60 day breeding season the first time. Observe him closely to be sure he is servicing and settling females.
NUMBER OF COWS
The yearling bull should be used on a minimal number of cows or heifers. The number should be governed by his age at the start of the breeding season. The following is a guide:

MANAGEMENT + HOUSING
The bull should be kept in a well-fenced lot prior to and following the breeding season. A shed or other natural windbreak should be provided. Supply plenty of clean water and minerals free choice. Treat routinely for lice and grub worms. Run bulls together with caution. Bulls of similar age which have bred cows together will usually work. Check for any unsoundness which might develop. Test annually for Brucellosis and Leptospirosis. Vaccinate for IBR, PI3, BVD and Lepto.
