SPGCA Speaking Contest
Open to Junior members of the SPGCA Topics for the speech will be provided at sign-up on Friday at the Field Day. Speeches will be given to Field Day participants and judges starting at 10:00 a.m.on Saturday at the Field Day. CASH PRIZES of $150, $100 and $50 will be awarded in each age category for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively.

We’re honored to host the South Poll Grass Cattle Association Field Day and sincerely grateful to the Association for entrusting us with this opportunity. We felt a clear calling to share, inspire, and promote our passion for land and livestock stewardship. That calling continues to shape everything we do. Our primary tool is observation — a gift from God. As James 1:17 reminds us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” We believe the ability to observe, learn from creation,and steward it wisely is one of those gifts. A Message from the South Poll Registry Office I’m Jake Renner, the Executive Director for the National Center for Beef Excellence. Throughout my career in Cooperative Extension, breed association leadership, and agricultural business development, for the past twelve years I’ve worked directly with ranchers, built educational programs, strengthened organizations, and advocated for the beef industry. I’m grateful to now bring that experience to NCBE and to the South Poll community. I look forward to continuing the strong relationship between NCBE and SPGCA to promote the breed, strengthen member services, and advocate for the breed. My goal is to ensure SPGCA continues providing the tools, resources, and support that help you succeed. I believe the best organizations are built by listening to their members, and I encourage you to reach out with your ideas, questions, and feedback. SALE RULES 1. All winning bidders will be required to present a valid driver’s license for copy. Absentee bidders will have the option to pay via check. 2. Bidders will register for a bidder number at the field day. 3. All animals will be identified by lot number. 4. Suggested opening bid price will be $2500 on heifers; $3000 on bulls; $3000 on cow/calf pairs. If animals do not meet the minimum, they will be considered “No Sale”. 5. All animals will be available for viewing after 8:00 A.M. on Friday, September 18, 2026 6. Cattle will be sold according to Lot Number at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2026 7. Trucking may be available on sale day at buyer expense. Cattle may not be loaded until after the conclusion of the field day. If prior arrangements have been made with the landowner, cattle may be held for up to 48 hours after the sale. All animals, once sold, become the sole responsibility of the buyer. 8. Any corrections of printed or published materials will be addressed prior to the sale. 9. All weaning age animals being sold without the dam at side, must be weaned 30 days prior to the auction. 10. All sale animals must be registered by consignor prior to being listed in the SPGCA sale catalog. Registration certificates will be transferred to the buyer at the SPGCA association expense. The buyer is responsible for submitting the proper contact information to the clerk for making transfers. 11. A current health certificate is required on each animal consigned upon arrival at the sale. Certificates can also be sent in ahead of time via email at info@ southpoll.com. After the auction, health certificates will be issued to all sold animals as required for shipping. 12. Non-virgin bulls or bulls greater than 12 months of age must be Trichomoniasis tested and negative results must accompany bulls upon arrival. These bulls must also pass a breeding soundness exam prior to the sale. 13. Mail or phone bids will be accepted, but arrangements must be made in advance- please see Rule 1. 14. All persons who attend this sale do so at their own risk and owners/hosts and/or the SPGCA assumes no liability or otherwise for any accidents that may occur. 15. All consignors must be current members of the SPGCA. 16. SPGCA has the right to visually inspect and deny/refuse any animals delivered for the Field Day auction to maintain the standards expected of our breed. 17. All transactions are between the seller and buyer.
COWBOY AUCTION FORMAT
Each animal to be sold to the highest bidder. All cattle will have a base price as listed on rule #4. If more than one buyer is interested in purchasing a lot, the base price will be raised in a minimum of $100 increments until only one bidder is left.

Speaker: Burke Teichert Burke was raised on a family ranch in western Wyoming. His father and grandfather were ahead of their time in understanding the importance of lowinput, low cost agriculture. After high school, he went to BYU to study Agricultural Economics with an emphasis in AgBusiness. He also served a 2 ½ year mission for his church in Brazil. Upon graduating from BYU, he went to the University of Wyoming to get a M.S. in Agricultural Economics with emphasis in Farm and Ranch Management. While at UW he became acquainted with a very good Ranch Economist that taught him excellent methods for analyzing alternative methods of operating ranches or bringing new practices to them. He also visited 40+ ranches in the state to collect data for his M.S. thesis. Some of those visits turned out to be life-long thought changers. Following graduation, Burke served on the UW Ag. Economics faculty for one year. After his time at the University of Wyoming, Burke spent a few years in the Artificial Insemination industry where he was put in touch with some of the best Animal Scientists in America—several of whom became mentors. This was a very valuable addition to the Agricultural Economics formal education. Burke has managed cattle ranches in a variety of locations and has had managerial oversight of two large farms and a dairy. He has also traveled extensively in the U.S. and in parts of Canada and Central and South America as well as England, Australia and New Zealand either on company business or as a consultant or speaker.
