It is with great pleasure to invite you to our 30th Annual Performance Bull Sale! It is hard to believe this is our 30th bull sale in Crawford - time does really ﬂy by. First and most importantly, we would like to thank all our loyal customers for the past 30 years with your interest and support. We do appreciate that very much and welcome everyone to take a look for the ﬁrst time.

It has been an exciting year for us at Sellman Ranch. Jake and Jules were united in marriage in October 2025 - it was a beautiful celebration and we hope you enjoy some of their wedding pictures throughout the catalog. Also Bailey is a high school senior and will be graduating in May 2026. She just made the decision to further her education at Central Community College in Columbus, NE and will also be playing volleyball for the Lady Raiders!

Looking back the cattle have really changed through the years. With technology, genomics and the use of more data we have the cattle performing at all levels. More data has helped along the way but we have maintained our cattle to stay long bodied, good footed and structurally correct, and still adding more performance every year. We are always trying to ﬁnd new sires to help us and our customers along these new price levels.

Once again we will be oﬀering our sale online with Northern Livestock Video Market.

All bulls will be videoed and should be ready for viewing around April 1st. You will have two opportunities to bid online Northern Video or Cattle USA. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about bidding online. We enjoy this business and have always demanded our cattle to be raised in a practical manner while still perform for our buyers. The bulls do not receive creep feed and are weaned in late September and started on feed. We take great pride in good cattle and quality service to our customers. We appreciate your past interest and please feel free to ask for any additional information. We also welcome you to the ranch any time.

The bulls will be at Crawford Livestock Market on Wednesday, April 8th. Please come take an early look on Thursday afternoon in Crawford - we will have light snacks & drinks available from 4:00-6:00 PM. A complimentary lunch will start at 11:00 AM on sale day. We look forward to seeing you there!

DELIVERY:

OPTION1~ Take your bulls home on sale day and recieve a $100 discount per head.

HERDHEALTH: All bulls are either pedigree or blood tested free of AM, CA and NH. Bulls tested for DD are marked on pedigree. All bulls have been DNA tested with Angus GS for enhanced EPDs and parentage. All bulls will have passed a fertility test by Dr. Kesterson ~ Alliance, NE. Scrotal measurements were taken on February 9, 2026 and are actual measurements.

RETAINEDINTEREST: Sellman Ranch will retain semen interest on marked bulls. NO possession! The bulls will be collected immediately following the sale and then delivered to the buyer at no expense.

DO I GET APPROVED TO BID?

2. Pre-Register at least one day prior to the sale.

3. Go to bid.northernlivestockvideo.com and click “Get Approved to Bid”.

4. Doing this will prompt you to create an account, after which you will ﬁll out a bidder approval application.

5. Once Approved, an email will be sent to the email account provided, please click the link in that email to activate your account and a buyer number will be provided.

6. On sale day (after approval), visit www.northernlivestockvideo.com to view and bid!

Each auction approves it own buyers, no buyers are approved by Cattle USA. This is done for your privacy and security. Your buyer’s information is kept private and is only released to the auction you choose. In order to buy at an auction you will need to submit your contact information to each auction you wish to buy from.

1) LOG INTO CATTLE USA.

2) Push the submit button next to the auction you wish to be approved at. The ﬁrst time you do this, a form will pop up for you to ﬁll out your contact information. Fill out your information then push the button at the bottom of the form to continue.

3) You have now sent your information to that auction. The auction will now be able to ﬁnd you in their database and approve you to buy.

PRODUCTION TRAITS:

CalvingEaseDirect(CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

BirthWeightEPD(BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

WeaningWeightEPD(WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

YearlingWeightEPD(YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

MATERNAL TRAITS:

HeiferPregnancy(HP), is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire’s daughters becoming pregnant as ﬁrst-calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction and the EPD is reported in percentage units.

MaternalMilkEPD(Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

CARCASS TRAITS:

MarblingEPD(Marb), expressed as a fraction of the diﬀerence in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

RibeyeAreaEPD(RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the diﬀerence in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

$ VALUES INDEX:

MaternalWeanedCalfValue($M), an index, expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences from conception to weaning with the underlying breeding objective assuming that individuals retain their own replacement females within herd and sell the rest of the cull female and all male progeny as feeder calves. The model assumes commercial producers will replace 25% of their breeding females in the first generation and 20% of their breeding females in each subsequent generation. Traits included are as follows: calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, milk, heifer pregnancy, teat size, udder suspension, functional longevity, docility, mature cow weight, claw set and foot angle.

BeefValue($B), a terminal index, expressed in dollars per carcass, to predict proﬁtability diﬀerences in progeny due to genetics for postweaning and carcass traits. This terminal index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase and market these animals on a carcass grid. Traits included in the index are as follows: yearling weight, dry-matter intake, marbling, carcass weight, ribeye area and fat.

CombinedValue($C), an index, expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid. Expected progeny diﬀerences directly inﬂuencing a combined index: calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, yearling weight, maternal milk, heifer pregnancy, teat size, udder suspension, functional longevity, docility, mature cow weight, foot angle, claw set, dry matter intake, marbling, carcass weight, ribeye area, and fat thickness.
