INFRASTRUCTURE

Power Source

The primary power source is an extensive solar system installed in 2023, harnessing sunlight to provide sustainable electricity. The system is comprised of four Sol-Ark 15K hybrid inverters and 115 kWh (2400 amphours at 48 V) of Home Grid LiFePro4 battery, providing up to 200 continuous amps of pure sine wave 240 V AC power. Raceways are installed for routing future solar DC supply wires. Inverter and battery closed loop and Wi-Fi communication is enabled assuming router connectivity.

In cases where solar energy falls short, we rely on backup diesel-fueled generators to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The main generator, an 18-K Kubota serves as the backup when the power provided by the solar system isn’t enough due to lack of sunshine or excessive demand.

Water Source

Water is sourced from a fresh well located on the property, which undergoes rigorous filtration through a comprehensive system. This system includes sediment, carbon, and ultraviolet stages, ensuring that all water is clean, safe, and suitable for use throughout the property.

Septic

The lodge uses a traditional septic system with a main 2,500-gallon tank that directs waste into two 500-gallon leach tanks, efficiently handling wastewater and protecting the environment. Located on the north side of the lodge,

the system is set safely away from the fresh water supply. The shop has its own 1,000-gallon tank, and the bunkhouse has a 1,500-gallon tank, providing reliable wastewater management for all facilities. Regular maintenance and inspections keep the system running efficiently and in compliance with local regulations yearround.

Fuel Storage

2 – 500-gallon diesel containers

1 – 300-gallon diesel container

2 – 1,000-gallon diesel containers

1 – 300-gallon gasoline storage container

6 – 100-gallon propane tanks

There are multiple (10) portable containers and two fuel transfer pumps.

Access

The property is easily accessible year-round via a nearby 1,500± foot community airstrip, floatplane access, on-site helicopter pad, and short flight times from Anchorage or Willow. This exceptional accessibility allows pilots to land at any time, making it a true pilot’s dream property. HUNTING | WILDLIFE

The area surrounding Shulin Lake Resort is part of Alaska’s wildlife-rich interior and supports a diverse range of species typical of the Matanuska-Susitna region. Extensive undeveloped lands, mixed forests, wetlands, and river corridors provide year-round habitat for both large and small animals.

Common big game include moose, black bear, and brown bear, supported by the Susitna River drainage and surrounding lowland forests. Dall sheep are found in the higher elevations of the Alaska Range to the north, while caribou may pass through seasonally, depending on migration patterns. Hunting in the area is regulated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and varies by unit, season, and permit.

Wildlife viewing opportunities are abundant throughout the year. The region is home to wolves, wolverines, lynx, red fox, and river otter, as well as beaver and snowshoe hare. Birdlife is equally diverse, with bald eagles, owls, grouse, ptarmigan, waterfowl, and many migratory species commonly seen near lakes, rivers, and wetlands.

FISHING

The waters surrounding Shulin Lake Resort lie within Alaska’s well-established interior freshwater fishery region. While Shulin Lake provides a quiet lake setting directly adjacent to the resort, the broader area is defined by access to major river systems recognized for their diversity of fish species.

The Susitna River watershed is one of Southcentral Alaska’s primary freshwater systems and supports multiple salmon runs, including Chinook (king), coho (silver), sockeye (red), chum (dog), and pink salmon, depending on location and season. In addition to salmon, the Susitna drainage is known for resident species such as rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, Dolly Varden char, and burbot.

Nearby tributaries, including Peter’s Creek, are locally recognized for seasonal salmon runs - particularly Chinook and coho - as well as populations of rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, and Dolly Varden. These creeks and rivers are managed under Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations, reflecting the region’s longstanding emphasis on conservation and sustainable fisheries.

Together, the surrounding lakes, rivers, and creeks place Shulin Lake Resort within a region long associated with Alaska’s interior fishing traditions and biologically diverse freshwater systems.

AREA HISTORY

The region surrounding Shulin Lake Resort has a long history shaped by Indigenous use, early exploration, and settlement tied to transportation and resource development in Southcentral Alaska. For centuries prior to European contact, the area was traditionally used by Dena’ina Athabascan peoples, who traveled seasonally through the Susitna River Basin for hunting, fishing, and trade. Their presence established enduring travel corridors and place-based knowledge that continue to influence the region today.

Modern settlement in the area expanded in the early 20th century with the construction of the Alaska Railroad, which connected coastal Alaska to the interior and led to the establishment of communities along the rail and roadway routes. The nearby community of Trapper Creek developed as a small service and access point along what later became the Parks Highway, supporting mining, homesteading, and transportation-related activity.

The area also gained national recognition with the establishment of Denali National Park and Preserve in 1917, which helped preserve vast tracts of surrounding wilderness and shaped long-term land use and conservation patterns. Today, the region reflects a blend of Indigenous heritage, early Alaskan settlement, and modern stewardship, with much of the surrounding landscape remaining undeveloped and true to its historic character.
