SAFE, SECURE, & PRIVATE
Private, on-site shooting facilities provide the convenience of practicing without relying on a public range. A pistol and shotgun range extends directly from the garage with a natural mountainside backstop, while a rifle range offers shooting distances of more than 500 yards from the deck. The property’s open landscape also provides multiple locations for a skeet range. Positioned approximately 30 feet above the surrounding ground, the home and garage offer a clear line of sight to the front gate. A discreet entrance from the main road, two electric security gates, a well-maintained gravel driveway, ample parking, and cold, dry storage beneath the home enhance both functionality and privacy. A three-cylinder Isuzu diesel truck engine converted into a home generator, complete with dedicated wiring and an electrical transfer box, provides reliable backup power during grid outages. Abundant timber on the property supplies firewood for heating the home, garage, and shop, while numerous water sources throughout the ranch contribute to its long-term resilience and self-sufficiency.

AREA HISTORY
Euro-American surveyors first explored this stretch of the Cascades in 1852, scouting a wagon route from Central Oregon into the Willamette Valley. A ranching settlement grew up along that corridor, and a post office opened there in 1888 under the name Hazeldell. The community was later known as Big Prairie, then Oak Ridge, before the Southern Pacific Railroad opened a depot in 1912, and the town was formally organized as Oakridge that same year.
The railroad brought steady growth, and by 1948, the Pope and Talbot Lumber Company had built a large sawmill that became the town’s dominant employer, at one point employing more than 500 workers. That timber economy collapsed in the 1980s: the mill closed in 1985, and the town lost roughly 1,600 jobs across Oakridge and neighboring Westfir.
Oakridge has since remade itself around the forest that once fed its mills. Old logging roads became singletrack, and by 2015, the International Mountain Bicycling Association named it a gold-level Ride Center, one of only six worldwide, cementing its status as an outdoor recreation destination between Eugene and Bend.
